My wife has been a teacher since 1991, We have lived in several different towns/states, she has never made more than 60k. Every school she has ever taught at was light years better than CPS.
Her classmate in college, a fellow teacher, makes about 150K a year in a Chicago suburb. No special degree or training. I would not want her teaching my kids. teachers have filed for unemployment benefits in the past and were denied. Lets see what the mayor wants to do and if she has the backbone to attempt to force the teachers back into the classroom. Lets see what the teachers union will do if the mayor chooses to go that route. Not to show up for work is job abandonment.I am guessing the union will claim unsafe working conditions. It looks like many of the major city teacher unions in the country said they are not going back to work until there is a vaccine. Well, I could also say that it is no great loss for the teachers to stay home and attempt distance learning. After drinking “several large servings of rum” with a subordinate at a downtown restaurant last fall, then-Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson sat in his city vehicle for two hours parked illegally at a South Side intersection before police officers arrived and let him drive himself home, the city watchdog reported Thursday.

No, 500 by September's end and 3000 shot. It's only about ten weeks and Dude, Inc. are pro's who know how to get things done. That's only about 10 kills per week. So a certain security company got a contract to provide security at apple stores. The security officers (off duty and retired po's) were told by the security company to remove the thin blue line flags from their uniform shirts as apple management said it would offend their customers. Hopefully all law enforcement involved will boycott this detail.

I do not understand why Constitutional and freedom supporting police officers from places such as Chicago do not move to red states. Yes, the pay is less, but so is the cost of living. Plus, a regular day is stopping a couple of speeders, investigating a burglary (and catching the perp), and monitoring the school traffic (when school is in session). The only rule is: You cannot vote for the democrats that hate cops once you move.

I’m not from Chicago and i’m not a cop. I’m also not really into politics, but I do have an observation.
It’s pretty obvious that the city has always liked, or maybe loved, it’s gangsters. If they didn’t they would have been chased out of town or otherwise dealt with, the people personally involved, not just friends with or related to are maybe 1% of the population, if that.
What’s happened is the opposite; the new, improved, #woke, #diverse pols are even more sweet on criminals than those who came before, not a little but much more so.
So why do you worry about crime? As long as they’re not attacking you because you wear a uniform, it’s not your problem. They WANT criminals to run the city, and if maybe someday one of their nephews gets capped it’s not even close to motivation to become champions of law and order. They HATE law and order that doesn’t come with a free pass for themselves and no that’s not a racist dog whistle. All Mafias of all melanin content levels agree on that. They want a society of warlords and prey, not citizens and irrevocable, divinely granted rights.

There is one thing that has been overlooked in the disturbing rise in homicides. One possible reason the shooters are becoming bolder might be the fact that Eddie Johnson is no longer the The chief of the Chicago Police Department. It might be that the shooters were not so much concerned about being arrested by him so much as they were frightened by the fact that he might be driving drunk and run into them with his motor vehicle while under the influence.
I once ran the recruitment for my department. It was one of the best times I had on the job, we went far and wide, we went everywhere to give talks, and have kids fill out exam applications. Black kids, Hispanics, Whites, males, females, it did not matter, the kids were great. They were excited to see us, excited to take the test, excited to be cops.
One of the greatest honors I ever had was having an officer come up to me in uniform, and say they were one of the exam applicants we signed up, and how happy they were on the job. One night I had the duty, I walked into a command and the desk , a Lt, looked at me and asked if I remembered him. I did not. Turns out he was one of the first kids we recruited, and here he was a boss. He really loved the job, and I reccomened he take over my old job of recruitment. I saw him again the other day, he was putting in his papers, disgusted. He said he just could not recruit new bodies for the job, it was just not worth it for the kids, police work was no longer worth it.
Turns out the job can 't get anyone to run recruitment, no one wants to lie to these kids, and the kids to their credit don't want the job. The next exam was called off, no one signed up. Retirements are way up. Patrol is a wasteland, the cops got the message, police work is over.
I loved being a cop, I liked being a boss, I have a few days left in a long career, was it all worth it? I have to say if I was a kid now, I would not take the job. How sad is that.A job that paid the bills, paid for my house, my kids educations, a job where I met and befriended and worked with the very best people in the world- other cops.
