- At least 14 people were injured in a shooting Tuesday outside of a funeral home in Gresham on the South Side.
The shooting happened about 6:30 p.m. as a group of people left a funeral in the 1000 block of West 79th Street, First Deputy Supt. Eric Carter said. Rhodes Funeral Services is located on that block.
People in a black vehicle opened fire on the group as they left the funeral, Carter said, before some funeral attendees started shooting back. At least 60 shell casings were found at the scene.
Police are questioning a person of interest, Carter said.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the offender is a M-2 named Christopher Columbus a/k/a Cristoffa Corombo. The offender is male and has a DOB of 1451. Height and weight are unknown. The offender likely wore a cloak, soft hat, padded undercoat with puffy sleeves known as a doublet, undergarments, pleated overcoat, girdle, tights and soft shoes. The offender is known to frequent the vicinity of South Columbus Drive near East Roosevelt Road.

Mass shootings are not uncommon in Chicago. Lexington and California had 11 shot and one killed a few years back. Cornell park at 51st and Wood had 13 shot in 2013. Duglas Park had 9 shot in 2019. On 79th Street there was 13 shot by the liquor store down the block from St Sabina and the extremist Father Flager's house of radical worship five or so years ago. Just a few that come to mind. Its part of the urban experience. Its Chicago not lilly white Mayberry. When in Rome do as the Romans do.

Anyone else see the DHS guy on Fox talking about ‘proactive arrests’? I’m not bleeding heart commie but we’re getting into some dicey territory. I don’t know about anyone else and this comment might not get published but I remember growing up hearing my father (career police) talk about the Soviets and what made them so rotten, and that America was (and is - I don’t care what anyone says) the greatest country because of good cops and respect for law and order, and understanding that freedom cuts both ways. I want to see these criminals punished as much as any right-thinking person, but I worry: what’s to stop these same tactics from being used down the line against, say, anti-abortion groups? Or gun rights groups? Or really anyone not on board with the liberal agenda?

Where the hell is the superintendent? This was a damn critical incident and a mass shooting. This isn’t the normal, everyday 2’sy or 3’sy everyday shooting.
People are un nerved and deserve to hear from the top “leader”, not a #2 hack that struggles to put two sentences together. This city’s leaders are ignorant, careless and reckless.
