Sources tell Crain's the decision will allow the retailer to focus attention and energy on its iconic State Street store and allow for redevelopment of the Water Tower space, which is leased from Bermuda-based mall operator Brookfield Property Partners.
But the loss of a high-profile tenant that occupies 170,000 square feet on eight levels will be a blow not only to Brookfield but to North Michigan Avenue’s reputation as one of the premier upscale shopping districts in the world. It will also deal a setback to Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s efforts to rebuild the city’s economy at a time of great difficulty.

Well it has finally come...the tipping point where even Lightfoot and Foxx are scared. The point where the actual tax paying people and businesses pull the plug. Why live downtown? Close to the office...doesn't matter anymore we are all remote. Enjoy the night life..shopping...restaurants...clubs and restaurants are shut down either due to Lightfoot's CV19 mandates or because they have been destroyed and stores are looted. Plus it's dangerous even on Oak Street these days. Rents are plummeting and property values are following.
Lightfoot and Foxx and every other politician knows their power begins and ends with their tax base. Without that base all you have left is the social justice assholes with no money. Make no mistake we are looking over the edge of the proverbial slippery slop. One more push and you could see a mass exodus of the people that really hold this city together. Some guy who runs a florist bidness that got trashed Monday morning was interviewed on Cavuto's Saturday morning show.
He attributed the demolition of his shop (hundreds of thousands in damage) in large part to "income inequality". My take was that he was afraid to tell the truth and have crosshairs on his back and a barrage of molotovs delivered to his shop... air mail.
Macy's said they'll put more money into the State Street store. I'll believe it when I see it. Macy's has let the State Street store become decrepit over the years. It's a long ways from the glory days of Marshall Field's.
Just turn it into one big weed dispensary. You could grow the shit hydroponically on 4 floors. 1floor for sales, 1 floor for paraphernalia & vaping items & the other 2 floors for slot machines & OTB. Classy!

Insurance Companies have the least overhead, and even then most of it is lawyers being paid. Lawyers ARE the politicians...the Bar is their boss.
Insurance Companies will not allow these continued payouts over and over because rates are things business associates find out and talk about. Those NOT being looted once a month are NOT gonna continue to pay the same as those who are. They will demand to pay less.
