Sec. 25-4. Looting by individuals.
(a) A person commits looting when he or she knowingly without authority of law or the owner enters any home or dwelling or upon any premises of another, or enters any commercial, mercantile, business, or industrial building, plant, or establishment, in which normal security of property is not present by virtue of a hurricane, fire, or vis major of any kind or by virtue of a riot, mob, or other human agency, and obtains or exerts control over property of the owner.
(b) Sentence. Looting is a Class 4 felony. In addition to any other penalty imposed, the court shall impose a sentence of at least 100 hours of community service as determined by the court and shall require the defendant to make restitution to the owner of the property looted pursuant to Section 5-5-6 of the Unified Code of Corrections.

Covid caused quite a few moves in my neighborhood. Lost jobs, working from home etc. Then this. I’ve heard quite a few neighbors talking about moving out of the city & they ain’t city workers, so they can do it. I’m equally angry & worried that the comfortable home I’ve worked hard for over the past 16 years won’t be worth much when I go to sell it in a few years. I thought at one point I’d actually stay in this city, winter somewhere else. But, why? So I have to worry about being robbed by feral animals. Why? So I have to walk into a high end department store around the holidays and have it smell like weed & wait for the smash & grab to happen. Why? So in my old age I can worry about being car jacked by mutts on Divvy bikes? Thanks, Democrats. You wasted a beautiful city. My family emigrated here 120 years ago. They had nothing. My great-grandfather died when my grandma was 10. He left a wife with 8 kids just before the Great Depression. They had nothing. They didn’t steal. They just worked their fucking asses off at whatever jobs they could find. They went to 3 different Wars. They raised their kids. 2 eventually became policemen. This 4th generation Chicagoan is gone as soon as I can.
