Foiled Car Jacking (and More)

  • An off-duty Chicago police officer exchange gunfire with an armed person Tuesday in West Town.

The officer was stopped in his vehicle at a stop sign about 9:40 p.m. when he saw a male get out of a silver sedan with a handgun in the 700 block of North Noble Street, Chicago police said. The officer announced himself, “at which time an exchange of gunfire occurred,” according to police.

No injuries were reported, though the officer’s vehicle was damaged, police said. The male with the handgun got back in the sedan and fled.
  • A man is in custody after a Chicago police officer was hit by a car Tuesday in Belmont Cragin on the Northwest Side.

The on-duty officer was standing behind a barricade about 9:15 p.m. in the 2100 block of North Central Avenue when they were struck by a Kia sedan, Chicago police said. The officer was hospitalized in fair condition with leg injuries.
Drunk? Speedy recovery wished to the Officer.

Thank God you are safe officer.

SCC, did you know the 1st district had a shooting that occurred at the Congress Hotel on Harrison and Michigan at 11:30 a.m.? Two sets of M/1s had an argument followed by a shoot out, only to be heard by a 12th district officer who was on the next block and gave chase.

There goes that myth of most of America driving SUVs.
Poor fellow. He only had a silver sedan. Shakespeare
could have done something with this back in the day.
For the censors: race was not mentioned in this story.

No dads, generational welfare, lousy schools and lousy teachers, revolving door judges and prosecutors...Why, it's almost systemic ain't it?

What are the odds that Groot, Crimesha, and COPA are drooling at the chance to have the off-duty officer charged for exchanging gunfire with the car jacker? It's like working for a bunch of stooges.

If the officer was off duty, why would announce himself?
From my perspective, at that moment, he was just another private citizen with a CCL.
Let the perp get a little closer, blow him away and tell IA that the he had announced a carjacking.
If you yell, "Police Officer, stop!" every camera on the block starts recording.
If you keep your mouth shut, they don't start until the POS is already in the dirt and yours is the only narrative.

I live on this block with the attempted carjacking. This is the 4th shooting (that I am aware of) in the past month at this exact location. Luckily we have alderman Burnett (convicted felon of armed bank robbery BTW) on the case and he has done precisely fuck all. Perhaps if I changed my name to 'Sterling Bay' he might decided to do something.

Cook Co spared of any paperwork and quick in& out bondable appearances but COPA Court will be long and drawn out.

As for 2100 N. Central...(the bridge o’er troubled waters - 025)...barricading the bridge to keep the fleeing feral headed back south?
If Larri had a Kia....

What's with the bullshit line, "the ofc announced himself", that always seems to get added into every officer involved shooting description? You don't need to announce shit if you legitimately believe somebody is about to shoot or kill you. That whole line just makes the general public, who's already fucking stupid, think that cops are required to do that.
The only line we need to say is, "the ofc prevented great bodily harm or death to himself/herself".

I heard from officers on scene that the officer struck by the vehicle was in really bad shape. Many many broken bones. May God heal you, officer.

He probably announced his office because we are trained to do so. It's repeatedly driven in your head during training. Especially in specialized units wearing plain clothes, you always announce your office, specifically when pointing a gun at someone. Plus there are different charges that can be filed against bad guys who go after police, even though Kim Foxx won't use them. Officer did the right thing.

It was pretty sad that MAIU refused to come out to process this scene, knowing the injuries to the officer. Good job by the officer's partner keeping his wits, calling everything out, getting an ambulance roling, and grabbing the driver. Big props also to the officer from our midnight watch who processed the offender for dui.

It really has gotten like a tv show...like shooting out the tires! speaking of tv I worked with a lot of guys like Voight. sigh...the good ol days. work hard, head to the tavern after and then home to the family. real simple but effective

You announce your office so if the POS lives he gets CHARGED for shooting at police and not shooting at a regular civilian since he never knew you were the police. Duh!

The offender who struck the copper was not drunk, he was stoned. We need more coppers who know how to do DUI's for drugs. The suburbs have plenty, why don't we? The city doesn't care.
