About Damn Time

Actually, way late to the game and perhaps too late to make a real difference:

  • Signaling a potential crack in Democratic support for Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, Republican challenger Pat O’Brien on Tuesday picked up the support of Ald. Brendan Reilly (42nd).

The downtown alderman voiced his concerns about Foxx’s response to looting in his ward this summer, but he’s now officially backing O’Brien. Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd), who also became disenchanted with Foxx, said he’s sitting the race out.

Reilly — whose ward includes parts of the Loop and the Streeterville, Gold Coast and River North neighborhoods — told constituents in a text that he supports the former Cook County judge for state’s attorney and urged ward residents to vote early or drop off their mail ballots at polling locations.

Two views on this:

  1. He really means it, or
  2. he's seeing some internal polling numbers (some of which we've shared here) and Crimesha is dragging parts of the local ticket down.

Get out and vote. It might actually mean something locally this time around.

1. Here's why you should NOT to vote early or by mail:

a. The campaigns aren’t over until election day.    All kinds of news could change your mind before then.

b. The USPS is an incompetent agency that employs slackers and common criminals.  Your ballot might end up in a dumpster fire.

c. Leaving your early ballot in a drop-box, like the ones in front of some Chicago buildings, makes it vulnerable for days or weeks to all kinds of mischief and vandalism.

d. If you spoil your ballot by not following directions, and you mail it in, it will be discounted during the final tally.    Your vote is lost.   If you spoil your ballot at the polling place, you can simply trade it in for another.

e. If anyone other than you is placing your completed ballot into the vote tabulator you increase the chance that it will never get there; or that it will get there, but not in the condition you left it.

2. Here's why you should ALWAYS vote "NO" on ALL judicial retention ballots:

Invariably, all judges on retention ballots are retained. This is because the low-information voter has no clue as to which judges are good or bad. Their default vote is a “YES” because they don’t want to upset the status quo and they don’t like change. They have no contact with the justice system, so in their minds a “Yes” vote keeps the big machine running. And if they’ve had no first-hand experience with robed political hacks who preside in Illinois courts they’ll be none the wiser and do their part in keeping the bad system chugging along.

The high-information voters in judicial retention votes are the coppers, lawyers and informed civilians who have to deal with the court system and know how truly bad it is. They amount to only a small group, however, and even if all of them vote “NO” against a judge, it won’t be enough to offset the stupid vote. Thus, bad judge might only score in the low 60s on a retention vote, but that’s enough to keep them on the bench (60%).

The goal, then, should be for enough voters to vote “NO” in order to push all the retention votes down to where the small group of informed voters become significant and have the power to tip a vote. Ideally, enough low-information voters would vote “NO” and push all retention votes into the low 60% level. At that point, the high-information vote “NO” would kick in and tip the vote below retention level and boot the judge…..who would then have to go out and earn a living like non-clouted lawyers.

Illinois judges are the second highest paid in the nation – even higher than NY. Many are in robes because of their political connections, not because they are smart, productive or honest. Many are incompetent and have little experience – they have no business being on the bench.

Many voters – even smart ones – become low-information voters when it comes to judicial retention ballots. How could we possibly know about all of these judges? Most people will follow the newspaper’s recommendations, which are often wrong. Even when the Tribune has actively recommended voting “NO” against a handful of really bad Cook Co judges, these judges have always gather more than 60% and stayed on the bench.

If you’ve ever been treated like dirt in Illinois courts, this is your one chance to voice your opinion.

So this election, do your part and vote “NO” on ALL retention ballots. The high-information voters will take it from there.

Reliable sources from his inner circle/drinking bro’s (St.Rita HS Juniors) related that a press conference

Flounder will relate that he made this decision after remembering what a great performance O’Brien

2nd Ward
Ald. Hopkins' loyalty should be to his 2nd Ward constituents. He isn't a committeeperson of any political party, so he's free to endorse O'Brien for Cook County State's Attorney. Being loyal to the Democratic Party, which isn't loyal to most is dumb. Hopkins wouldn't be alderperson now, if Bob Fioretti hadn't been remapped out and his ward moved further north. Bob Egan, Roseland Community Hospital CEO, is 2nd Ward Democratic Committeeperson.

42nd Ward
Ald. Reilly didn't endorse Congressperson Danny Davis in the Democratic Primary. At the very least, he has some independence and cares about his constituents.

41st & 43rd Wards
Committeeperson Joe Cook (41) omitted Foxx's name. Ald. Michele Smith (43) listed both CCSA candidate names, but made no endorsement. Smith isn't pleaded with Foxx. Source: FWIW Blog
Lucy Moog is 43rd Ward Democratic Committeeperson.

Voting Republican
I love voting Republican, when one runs for office. I can't vote for one, if none run.

Reilly's not stupid. Streeterville and River North residents bear the brunt of the riot and looting experience and subsequent inconvenience, the loss of nearby stores and restaurants whether for days, weeks, or forever, and the now-constant threat of street violence. There's no quiet enjoyment of our neighborhood anymore; it's guns fired, fireworks exploded, partiers hooting and hollering long into the night. It's the near-absence of police presence with exception of retail Michigan Avenue strip. Our home values are dropping fast, and the condo resale market is dead. No, Reilly's not stupid, and his constituents didn't anticipate this new dystopian lifestyle for themselves.

If the aldermans endorsement has any weight then maybe a hefty majority of his shuttered, locked down constituency will come to the polls against KmmFxxxUp 2020, and hopefully more will crossover to cast a vote for Law &Order Donald J Trump and perhaps Willie Wilson for Senate. But he supported KMFXUP in the Primary? Too late to make a big difference as he should have been saying this back in March Lockdown Madness, heck he should have had an discouraging opinion when KFXUP dropped the Juice Swolls case, that stain was in his Ward too.
For the record:
Reilly D-42 was not among the four aldermen that called for the National Guard to be deployed during the DNC/Summer of Larri encouraged peaceful protests and statuary removals...during these challenging times of a global pandemic. And he’s still endorsing Sleepy Joe and the Kameltoe.

It was a very late endorsement of O’Brien. What gives?
Chicago had enough of Sour Pricklewrinkle and her taxation, tax+spend policies cost her a mayoral bid. As it turned out, LightLoafer Groot is no better or different, Larri went from unknown to city favorite to dumb-ass lying Machine tyrant just like Prickie and JB and the rest of The Democrats.

Reilly should have a pretty good idea how much support and confidence his constituency has in his Ward 42, he ran unopposed in 2019. Like Larri, he has nothing to loose...except maintaining empty businesses, jobs, a glut of unoccupied hotels, apartments, condos, a total ban on tourism, Thanksgiving and Christmas, the unrelenting crime and of course Trump Tower. He’s doesn’t appear to be phased by Larri’s and JB’s Covid’s Second Coming either.

In two years will folks of the Ward remember? Reilly isn’t an but a savior to Ward 42, he instituted a mega whopper of parking fines on trucks in the ward, sat idly and silent when dwarf dick’tater Larri LightFührer shutdown the beach and lakefront path. Did absolutely nothing as the b-l-m descended and destroyed downtown but tell residents to stay inside until the looting riots subsided. He’s no law and order fella just like Larri, just protest encouraging scoundrels.

According to the show of Lude Media on October 26, 2020, this photo was a screenshot of a video secretly taken in the Oval Office of the White House on April 4, 2016. At that time, Xi, Jinping (General Secretary of Chinese Communist Party) was participating in the Nuclear Weapons Forum at the DC Summit in the United States. Xi, Jinping promised the United States in public that the South China Sea would not be militarized, but he nevertheless spent 1 billion U.S. dollars through Hunter Biden to privately convince Obama to allow the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) to secretly militarize the South China Sea. When Hunter Biden told Obama the deal, he agreed to accept bribes from the CCP.

The dark forces of the United States and the CCP have blended and entwined. Behind the entire American democracy stands a shadow of darkness that has been cultivated by the CCP.

President Trump and Miles Guo are facing the dark forces not only from the CCP, but also from American demons. The people all over the world are at the crossroads of human civilization. Justice eventually must prevail over evil.

Damning evidence coming out of the Hunter Biden story. wonder if Obama might take a step back from the campaign trail. The Swamp is being exposed.

This is OK, but why couldn't the O'Brien campaign just hit the streets and contact the Streeterville business owners and workers that got looted?

I have lots and lots of practical campaign experience of just hitting the street, talking with individual voters, passing out short effective literature. The O'Brien campaign reps I meant would do it, thought it was too dangerous.

My experience is that as long as we don't preannounce some rally, the BLM, Antifa, gang members won't know about it and can't plan violent attacks.

Chicago, Cook County Conservatives, GOP are too cowardly and timid. Nationalists and Populists in Central and Eastern Europe took back their countries/societies from the worst forms of Communism.

Why can't we even show our faces on our streets here in Chicago.

“ I can tell you firsthand that nearly 100% of the downtown residents and businesses hate Foxx and Lightfoot with a burning passion. I’m down there all the time and the people are extremely vocal about how they feel. I also have wealthy relatives that live in a 1.5 million home down there since 1995 and they are furious with them. They say that all their friends down there can’t wait to vote Lightfoot out but first they’re focusing on getting rid of Foxx and some other Illinois politicians. They are united and highly motivated. They are all democrats but are now voting republican for the first time and also voting for Trump because of what the democrats are doing to the honest people. It’s really exciting to see and hear. Everyone needs to vote to make the change happen.”

That’s great, and I don’t believe it. We just had a choice recently not to make ol kimmie the democrat nominee, and she won the nomination in resounding fashion. Apparently they weren’t that motivated. Downtown is as blue as it comes. I hope you’re right, I hope now that they’re voting patterns are finally starting to inconvenience them, that there will be enough of them to vote in Obrien, and vote out lightfoot, but I doubt it. Even if they want to vote out lightfoot, I doubt they’ll be willing to vote or financially back a republican mayor. We will just get someone as goofy as lightfoot. I hope they're coming around, I hope you’re right, but you can inform them they’re several decades too late to the party, their voting killed the city a long time ago, they’re just starting to feel the affects of it.

Would be interesting to hear the take from the citizenry who lives downtown/river north as their ground floors and nearby stores are boarded up and going out after hours are more riskier than before. I (CFD) was sent to that area recently. It was like another planet.

Downtown/tourism is DEAD. Its wes' side east. Had a murder and a shooting in one night.
That was maybe a once a year occurrence for this company, now its business as usual.

I live downtown in the Loop and I can tell you- I'm not law enforcement. I'm a woman and I am frightened. I'm not the only one in this area who has changed their habits. I don't go out after dark and I haven't crossed the Mich Ave bridge since before the Floyd riots, not since I heard about a young woman getting sexually assaulted at 10pm on Mich Ave this summer walking home. I used to do that that all the time after dinner with friends and I won't do it anymore. It just doesn't feel safe anymore- a older woman in my building said she was assaulted in the street in that area. A friend of mine was in his car stopped at a light at one of the bridges and a couple of black guys jumped the car. Thankfully his doors were locked, the light turned and he hit the gas. But he swore when his lease is up in February, he's leaving his rented apt in the Loop.

If Foxx wins, I believe there will be an exodus from the Loop. I cannot count how many times I have called/emailed Reilly and the Mayor's office to complain and to tell them that if things do not improve, my family and I will have no problem with selling our apartment for whatever we get for it and getting out. We won't care if that sinks property values in our area. People like us calling Reilly are probably a reason the police have been reassigned to the Loop from other neighborhoods that have high crime rates but we are relieved to see them and say thank you because it's the least we can do. I voted two days ago for Trump and O'Brien but I can't help it if other people don't vote.

It is truly too bad you do not have to own property to vote. Mortgages count as owning but if you don't own propery why should you be able to vote to raise property taxes??? so mikey madigan could get berrios former office to reduce them for a fee on commercial property to raise your tax burden. then berrios can have a golf outing on mikey's dime. it would sweet if berrios, ed burke, pritzker & mikey could spend their last years shitting in stailess steel toilets in the same cell.

That was the primary and many didn’t vote. The primary was also several months before the downtown was looted and destroyed several times. The primary was also before the heavy dictator hand of Lightfoot closed all the businesses and restaurants. Things have greatly changed since the primary. Their feelings are different now

So, Cook County and Chicago have a black administration. Blacks run the government, the schools, the police department and most city and county agencies. Yes, we are to believe that there is racism in the city and county and that is why crime is increasing, blacks are killing and shooting more and more each week, and now areas of the city that used to be safe are not, with blacks attacking, raping and robbing people in those usually safe area. Car jackings are running at an all time high. Am I a racist for thinking this, for saying this? Am I wrong on this? I think no is the answer to all of these questions. People are afraid. And, not just white people, but black citizens also, honest, hardworking citizens. They see the jails and prisons being emptied out by our Governor, our Sheriff, our courts and our county prosecutor ( I use that term lightly for Foxx is more of a public defender). Thousands of black prople have left the city for better suburban areas and believe me, white people who live in those expensive condos downtown and on the Gold Coast will be right behind them. The schools are a mess, the police department has been defanged and used as the patronage plaything of the democratic party putting incompetents in high positions. Chicago is right behind Baltimore, Detroit , Minneapolis , Milwaukee, St. Louis. No one will want to live in the city and raise children in the city, not when these thugs randomely shoot down the street and kill children, seemingly with impunity.

Not a cop but longtime supporter of the police. I lived downtown in the 42nd ward for the past 11 years. Broke my lease last month to move out to the suburbs for all the obvious reasons stated by other downtown residents—rioting, looting, rampant crime, lack of safety, never-ending taxes and fees, horrific clueless mayor and corrupt politicians. My mortgage payment is a third of my monthly rent and I can walk outside at night without worrying about getting killed.

I appreciate Reilly endorsing O’Brien but it would have meant more if it if he didn’t wait till a week before the election. Contrary to frequent comments here, it’s not all liberals living downtown. But I can tell you that I don’t know a single person—including some very liberal city friends—who doesn’t despise Foxx (and Lightfoot and Gov. Bluto). EVERYONE I know—city and suburbs— is voting for O’Brien regardless of party affiliation and political bent. Whether it’s enough to overcome the inevitable Democratic machine cheating and chicanery remains to be seen. I’ll do my part voting from my new address.

My one regret about moving out of the city is that I won’t be able to vote against Lightfoot in the next election. Paul Vallas is about the only local pol I see who might be able to pull Chicago back from the abyss.

Trump 2020.

In 2008 my partner in 009 told me to buy stock for Amazon, then it was around $70.00. Purchased lots of it, selling it day before election. Moving to San Diego jan.14. Ladies and gentlemen be safe.

10/29/2020 01:21:00 PM

There are better choices for relocation. Sad that San Diego is part of California and the idiots are running the state into the ground. Sacramento is the capitol and the Dems are in charge and a great example of common sense lost.

Pelosi's nephew (Newsom)is the governor and toes the line and then some. Hopefully you've read the covid-19 edicts that he has put into law. Just as an example, the new Thanksgiving and Christmas gathering rules:

No more than 3 families can gather, all outside, Park and beach are ok, single serving plates and you cannot join other friends that you see in the park or beach while celebrating. Singing is frowned upon, but if you must, keep the level below normal talking levels while wearing a mask, except when eating. This is a state wide edict. Just a sample of idiocy and over reach by the "ruling class" to the peons.

The upper bracket income tax rate is 13%. Do you have any idea what the median cost of a home and the property tax rate is. Cost of living is extremely high, rolling blackouts of electricity. Oh, just a reminder to look on your restaurant bill and notice a 3% addition to recoup the costs of the Covid-19 "extra steps" mandated by the state. Gasoline at just under $4 per gallon, $4.50+ for premium.

Not to Pi## on your parade, but you are moving from one hell hole to another, just with a beach and higher standard of living.

Of course, the homeless love the parks and beaches too. Many tax paying residents are moving out, to Idaho, Montana, Arizona and Texas to avoid the bullsh*t. Read up on the gun laws too. Good Luck and bring money, lots of money.

Reilly made his comments from his annex office The Boss bar at the corner of Chicago and Clark. As he made the announcement his "posse" pumped their fists and barked like dogs reminiscent of the Arsenio Hall Show popular with assholes in the 1990s.

After his substantive comments he gave a shout out to his "Dog Pound" as they did a shot that was, like all of his drinks at The Boss, on the house.

IF O'Brien manages to pull this off (Fingers crossed but not holding breath)... then the real work begins, guys. He will be fighting alone against Preckwinkle (who controls his budget), the chief judge (who sides with her), and the PD (who also sides with her). Not to mention an office drained of many, if not most, of its experienced prosecutors who found a way to jump ship, and were replaced with a bunch of young CJW prosecutors hired by the Foxx administration, who won't be fireable unless they are supervisors. Hopefully CPD will work with him and his administration to begin the long, hard, upward battle of fixing some of what Foxx broke.

Live in Streeterville, thank God for the Police. We pray you keep doing your best despite the insane Liberal Idiot’s you deal with. We are so scared to even go outside in the daytime. Thank you for also saving my GF, who was chased down the street by a madman the other day, you caught him about 10 feet from whatever he was going to do to her. Anyway, I’m in Commercial Finance for Real Estate and I can tell you what you already know, Chicago’s economy has already imploded. I’m seeing foreclosures starting to pop up, there are zero buyers, all of our properties and homes are worth about half of what they were last year citywide. Except the data doesn’t show it truly yet. There might be hope in a few years if a huge clampdown in crime happens immediately. Otherwise it could take a generation if ever. The only way to save Chicago is if somehow Foxx, Lightfoot and all these crooks in Government are out of office. Probably the only way is if they are put in jail for election fraud, insurrection, treason, corruption, wire fraud, conspiracy, R.I.C.O. accomplice to murder, reckless endangerment. (Sorry to be a street attorney, they have to be guilty of charges similar to those if not all of them.)

I've commented before about Streeterville. I live in Streeterville, and I am in Reilly's district. I was shocked to find out that he is supporting O'Brien (I'm not on the e-mail list and don't want to be), since the alderpeople have been human rubberstamps for the mayor for years. I am glad, but agree that Reilly might have announced too late to make much of a difference.

I have lived in Streeterville about ten years. The area has been sliding the entire time I've been here, and has accelerated in the last three years or so. It was never as good as people said. I am not affluent, and live in one of the many 1960s-era buildings in the neighborhood. They might look fairly nice from the outside, but are old and rundown inside. I will be voting in person on Election Day, definitely for O'Brien. I did not vote for LL, whom I detest (I knew she would be terrible, but she has exceeded even those expectations, Preckwinckle, or Pritzker. I will not be voting for Biden.

Unlike some, I do walk outside evenings. Late afternoons the sidewalks are choked with dog-walkers. A friend and I shop outside the downtown area by car as well; the immediate shopping is inadequate. Near North has lots of noise problems and trash problems that I would like to see addressed. Neither of these is new. The main problem has been the crowds of people coming from areas to the west of downtown, but this isn't new either. West Town, Lawndale, Garfield Park, Englewood, and and the list goes on. Any officer who works on Michigan Avenue must be familiar with some of the street musicians who make too much noise, for hours at a time. One young man at Michigan and Ontario who has a keyboard and an iPad is audible for about five blocks in any direction. No one does anything. Loud cars chase and speed around Near North over and over; no one does anything. Car parties have gone on in parts of the area the whole time I've lived here (not so much right now); no one has ever done anything.

I don't agree that Near North is a "ghost town," though. It has never been deserted. I have seen people who appear to be tourists as well, almost the entire time the virus has been going on. There are still people both renting and buying, at least in older buildings like mine.

Still stripped without pay and begging for cash “donations” from cops on his (former) team.
