Last we heard, Illinois was $129 Billion (with a B) in the red regarding pensions. Fatass wants to raise taxes $3.5 Billion....and then spend $3 Billion of it on new issues instead of retiring old debt and catching up on what is already owed?
And that's just the income tax - there is already another $3-to-4 Billion in new fees on the drawing board and we haven't seen where that's supposed to go.
Does anyone have an actual breakdown of where all of this new spending is supposed to go?

They need more money to pay the debt service on the loans they took out to pay mandatory pension payments that they missed over the years. The state can balance the budget with 4.95% income tax with a little fiscal responsibility. They took pension holidays to pay for their pet projects. Jubba the Hut will have to raise income taxes to 5.95% if the graduated tax is not passed. He knows he will not be reelected then.

On his show this morning, Proft had an interesting stat about state spending: If Illinois spent the same on Illinois citizens as Texas does on Texas citizens, Illinois would SAVE 22 billion dollars. Yet, Texas is the destination state....hmmmmmm.
And then, minutes later, he played a man-in-the-street cut in which some Chicago guy says he won't mind paying Lightfoot's higher taxes "if it helps."
There you have the whole problem in a nutshell. Low-information voters have no idea how mismanaged government is and are willing to keep paying and paying for it.

They are pushing this "fair tax" hard on Youtube ads the last few weeks, trying to frame it as a tax on the rich. Looks to be the old bait and switch at play here.
There is not enough tar to cover, nor a rail sturdy enough to hold Gov. Blimpster if this shit passes and then implemented as a tax on our pensions. I think the alternate remedy to the situation would be to follow the same path our founding fathers did.

i retired from the city in 2004. i believe the city budget was 6-7 billion. in 15 years the budget doubled while inflation and interest rates were low. also most departments cut staffing while loading up on exempts but held overall numbers even or down. i have never heard anyone address this. how did the budget double and where did all this money go ? foreign citizens and buying votes from the usual suspects i guess. i know my salary and bills didnt double in that time. as many have said they only have a spending problem. time to erect the gallows for theft from the peasants.
