Nice Save

The original headline was:

  • Trump Throws Mentally Handicapped Man Off of Building

It turns out that wasn't quite the case:

  • Chicago police said Monday morning they had “resolved peacefully” a standoff at Trump Tower more than 13 hours after a man suspended himself with a rope and harness from the 16th-floor landing of the downtown high-rise.

“Situation resolved peacefully by negotiators,” tweeted police spokesman [...]. “Suspect in custody. No injuries.”

A police SWAT unit and the Chicago Fire Department had responded to a call of a man threatening to kill himself at the Trump International Hotel & Tower, 401 N. Wabash Ave. in the Near North neighborhood, about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, according to police. Ahern said the man rappelled down the outside of the building; he was seen hanging by a rope several feet below the ledge to the right of the large “Trump” sign on the building.

Under the new SWAT rules, they probably should have left him hanging there to let weather and gravity solve the situation. But being dedicated public servants and unwilling to let passersby be pelted with body parts and/or human waste, they talked him into surrender. Good job all around.

It would’ve been comical if somebody would’ve opened the window and started cutting the rope to see how serious he was about it. Maybe he’ll try it closer to the ground next time so he can be used for a piñata.

I know, wishful thinking about the windows since they’re stationary.

I can just imagine the fake news sources like MSNBC, CNN, New York Times, of course our own news media, and a host of others embellishing this story with their anti-Trump rhetoric:

“ Down In The Polls Trump Stages Publicity Stunt, Has Man Dangling From Trump Tower For 13 Hrs. So His Tower Is Highlighted”

“Sources Say Man Dangling On Trump Tower May Have Been Pushed Off Roof By Trump Operatives”

“Man Dangling From Trump Tower Clings For Life After Falling Through Sub-Standard Glass Window Approved By Trump, According To Anonymous Chicago Elected Official”

“Chicago Mayor Files Lawsuit, Declares Trump Tower A Public Nuisance”

Damn SCC, you just did Chicago's journalist and media's work for the day. Shouldn't they be charged a fee at this point? Well at least they can go back to sleep now and wait until they get their hard copy for Wednesday.

Dan Goodwin "Spiderman" scaled the outside of the John Hancock ...
Nov 10, 2018 — On a chilly Veterans Day of Nov. 11, 1981, Dan Goodwin was clinging by a homemade hook to an I-beam outside the 37th floor of the Hancock Center when then-Fire Commissioner William Blair gave the controversial order for firefighters on a higher floor to let loose a fire hose on him.

I am going to go WAY BACK (1969) At the time I was working a probationary Patrolman working in the 011the District with veteran Patrolman that had about 22 years on the job. Just after 10:00 PM we got a call that man was threating to jump off a roof. Responded to the scene of two story building with a man standing next to a chimney. This man had one end of a rope tied around his neck and the other end tied around the chimney. He was standing there with a bottle of whiskey and shouting at the police. This went on for about 45 minutes. I was on the early watch and was told by a Field Lieutenant we had to stay on the scene until relieved by the early crew on the midnight watch. This citizen kept on threatening to jump off the roof. During this whole time me and my partner and others were trying to talk the man from jumping. When the Field Lieutenant told us we had to stay there until relieved, my partner told him just to shut the fuck up and come off the ledge. The man screamed I am going to jump. My partner than screamed, " Then jump"! This man looked at my partner and jumped from the roof. When he jumped my heart skipped a beat. The man hit the ground and the crowd at one time just screamed. After the man hit the ground the rope kept on coming down and down, and down. What the man forgot or was too drunk he jumped off a roof that was maybe 30 feet tall with a rope that was 50 feet long. Moral of story: If you are going to threaten to commit suicide either do it don't do it and jump off the roof with the proper rope length He broke both legs and one arm. We did work overtime but not that much. When ever I hear a story like this I think of the person jumping and rope just coming down on him

I have been at couple of these where the person jumped. Not a pleasant sound when they hit the pavement. If you have ever been at one of these incidents you would never again tell the person to jump.
