Well, almost correct. A strong leader of the department would make a difference, since we have not had one for some time. They all fold when the orders come from city hall. The department is a nest of patronage and cronyism and influenced by academics and neighborhood agitators all of whom have never done the job and do not have a clue what should be done.
But, the real problem is the prosecutors and the courts and the entire prison system in Illinois that lets people free

Up until his comments to the last academy class regarding the Floyd incident, I would have agreed with you. Obviously the head of most any police department is by nature, a political animal. I had high hopes for him, seeing as he was the guy who sent an explosive-armed robot after a cop killer, but his performance in support of the average P.O. has been dismal at best. Sure, better the devil you know, but no one chosen to "lead" CPD under Lightfoot will be pro-police.
It's too bad that in her eyes, no one on the department is smart enough to head it up. If I were in the command ranks, I'd be highly insulted. Of course, the people who are smart enough to lead CPD are also smart enough not to.

Spent 22 years on job. I pulled the plug and retired. Did a decent job while on, backed up fellow officers, handled jobs, I wasn't a super hero, but was not a dog. After 22 years on, NOT 1 handshake from a white shirt, NOT a thank you from the commander, any sergeants, lieutenants or captain or anyone at HQ. A few blue shirts wished me well genuinely but not one white shirt scum. Either I was jag off which no one liked (which isn't the case) or the city and police bosses are pricks, and this is what thanks and gratitude you get after 22 years. I guess a handshake, a thank you, or a congratulations was too much work for all these overpaid POS bosses. The day I left, I was so assured that I made the right choice. I miss a couple good friends I worked with on the watch, but other than that, HELL with the City of Corruption. Don't do an inch more than you are required to do because they will throw you to the wolves in one second. But when they retire, they will be selling BS tickets for gifts and drinking parties, expecting people to kiss their ring while your on a knee.
