Six Years - #1 in Rats

Groot, carrying on the Rahm tradition:

  • Rats have taken to the streets of Chicago, yet again. Orkin released its Top 50 Rattiest Cities List today, and for the sixth consecutive time, the Windy City takes the top spot. New to the Top 10 this year is Baltimore, taking the eighth spot, and moving into the Top 20 is San Diego, rising 13 spots to secure the #19 ranking.

Orkin ranked metro regions by the number of new rodent treatments performed from September 1, 2019 to August 31, 2020. This ranking includes both residential and commercial treatments.

We can attest to seeing more rats most nights than we can recall ever seeing in at least the last ten years. We thought for sure New York was going to move up to First Place, seeing as how the commie mayor has cut garbage pickups and the stacks of refuse in the streets are the subjects of many conversations we have with visitors from the Big Apple. Alas, it wasn't to be.

We're thinking of creating a new Award - the Groot-fecta:
  • most rats
  • most homicides
  • most people leaving town

We'll need t-shirts, or a poster over at HeyJackass.com

I have never seen a rat in my area on the northwest side. Have seen every other animal though. A word of warning though if you have children or dogs. If you see green pellets about the size of a pea in your yard it’s the rat poison. It kills by causing an animal to bleed to death. We started to see dead squirrels lying around. Don’t know if the squirrels are spreading the pellets or how it gets in the yards. Now we don’t let our dogs in the yard unless we are with them. Called the city, they said they would look into it. Yea right.

If the Orkin Man says so, it's gotta be true. Mhhmmm. We gots to get the Rat Patrol on high alert ladies and gentlemans mhhmmm. I'm thinking 22 caliber snake shot might be the ticket. Gonna make them shot spotters go haywire, but if the Orkin Man says we be number 1 the Rat Patrol gots to take action.

Chicago is the rat capital of the nation.
The little rodents are casing the resident frustration.
I am not talking about the mayor.
But commonly said by the naysayers.
There is plenty of vermin in this location.

In the 70s and 80s the rats downtown were plump, like rabbits. They would emerge at dusk and would hippy hop from garbage box to garbage box downtown all night long. They they had a crackdown on the boxes and required them to be chained and locked. The rats got way skinnier after that, and look more like Ferrets or Stoats now, slinking into smaller holes and running way faster. Now all the rats live in the planter medians, we can thank Daley for those too. He did better planning for the rats than he did for retirees.

I use to work as an overnight security guard at a used card dealership on Western Avenue and I would set these big cartoonish rat traps outside the fence and wait for the snap and squeak and then I would wack them with a bat. It worked for most of them but I would get the real big ones and they had the ability to drag the trap and flick it off. I't didn't break their necks and they just went off into the night.

Officers get your COVID tests now. More than likely you will get a positive result and you can take some time off. A couple friends of mine took one of those free covid tests and they got a positive result and have no symptoms. Get it while the gettin' is good.

Use a EGO or Dewalt blower and blow the yard clean. They are little pricey but a must have just like a shopvac, one pass with that tornado generator and the rat poison pallets are gone. Just be really careful not to destroy your grass as they’ll rip sod chunks right out of the ground.

Shit, if you want to solve the rat problem - it's easy. Put a bounty on EACH RAT of $0.50, or $1.00 for one's over a certain weight...

Homeless will handle that shit in about 2 hours. Yeah, you'll have to pay out about $1 mil in a day, but hey - you'll save on all the poison, baits, services....

oh never mind, that will impact the fat envelopes. Carry on...

to 2:59 pm. iron workers are not in the steel workers union. steel workers work in steel mills and other foundrys. ironworkers make about 50.00 an hour with time and a half except sunday. local 1 covers chicago and when they are short other local workers nearby can clear in. their locals are small, there are ones in aurora and joliet that i know of. union jobs are just that, the local provides the men regardless of where they live. i thought cpd hated residency ? why the hate bro? they dont make triple time, all live in indiana or make 300 k year. their job is 1000 times harder than yours and probably has a higher fatality rate. and as far as sleeping on the job, sure you really want to go there ? in an ironworkers 40 year career the only place they would get a break would be a gubbmint job once every couple of years if they are lucky. winters coming, while your resting in your nice warm squad look up and see the ironworkers in carhards walking icy beams with a sledge and a spud and asknyourself if you really want to trade places. we're all labor, quit yur bellyachin .

Has anyone noticed there are many fewer coyotes than there used to be? Could that have something to do with the high rat population? Cats cannot kill adult rats, they are too aggressive. Needs to be a coyote or a dog.
