Conehead Giveaway

Conehead is set to give away a ton of money that Chicago doesn't have:

  • Mayor Brandon Johnson on Wednesday cracked the door open to providing a public subsidy to build a new $1.2 billion White Sox stadium in the South Loop, provided the team and the developer “put some skin in the game.”

One day after Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf and his entourage traveled to Springfield to begin the uphill battle for the $1 billion in state funding, Johnson was considerably more receptive to the concept of using city tax revenue for new stadiums — either for the Sox or the Bears — than Gov. J.B. Pritzker and some legislators have been.

So Fata$$ is making noise that the Sox aren't getting tax dollars, so Conehead is stepping up to give away the store? And where is this money coming from?

  • Those sources include a tax increment financing district created to bankroll the infrastructure improvements needed to ready the site for development; the 2% hotel tax increase used to renovate Soldier Field; and a new sales tax overlay district that would require the city and state to forgo sales tax revenue generated within the boundaries of the project.

So (A) a TIF fund that drains money from city coffers. (B) Instead of reducing the tax levy that was used to fund the Soldier Field rehab, keep it in place for another stadium. And (C) a new sales tax overlay used solely to fund the proposed stadium....which means everything that would have gone to the General Fund, will go only to the stadium, and all that missing tax revenue will have to be made up somewhere else.

Hello Tax Hike!

Reinsdork is worth several billion dollars. The state and city are insolvent - they will never ever be able to pay for their pension obligations. Now the mayor wants to borrow another $1.7 Billions to build more low-income subsidized housing (no doubt for migrants that will continue to pour in over the next few years) and give $1.2 Billion to the satanic assholes who are already billionaires that own professional sport teams. He is incompetent and will just accelerate the financial downward spiral. We need an adult in the room who will say NO WAY! Pensions overseen by the state and city are at 30-40% funding levels … these are critical levels. The pig with the 30 year old stadium needs to f$@& off!

He needs a new stadium to be competitive? Tampa does great with less revenue than the Sox. Sox need new owners to be competitive, not taxpayers money. I read the largest sports stadium subsidy in history was $400 M, but the Sox want $1.2 B? Really?

If Cone head is going to be a stupid as Daley was, at least make the lease a 75 year lease rather than a 30 year lease like Daley made when they built the new stadium back in 1991. There is nothing wrong with the stadium they use now, so why replace it now.

Bears only play 8 or 9 games a year at home.
Sox play 81 games.

It would only be worth it if the city makes money off the deal like they do in the Wrigley area.
Bottom Line: What is best for our pension that we worked for.

What did ol uncle Jerry offer BJ to get him to open the city's wallet? My guess is it wasn't much. Maybe it was a few sheckles and a free session with a therapist for his panic attacks.

Retired in Texas…

Retirement. They pay you to stay away from CPD. How euphoric is that?

So conehead has a 1.2 Billion thought for a stadium but will not shore up our pensions.

Keep that in mind when you vote 3 years from now.

Stay safe bro & sis in blue.

In 2005 the Sox, while in a pennant hunt, were getting 4-5 thousand a game while the Cubs were getting 30,000 while close to last place. The Sox fans have never supported their team, most only care that the Cubs lose.

Maybe he can take back the 10 million spent in public schools on the police and spend it on this. Why does the CTU get to decide on where the money is spent.

The biggest welfare cheats are Big Businesses and billionaires.

Our taxes are high not because of the poor, but because of folks like Jerry Reinsdorf. They use their immense wealth to write laws that ultimately benefit themselves.

Golly gee whiz here’s a guy that could not even pay his own bills now he’s throwing taxpayers money away. You have to pay your bills first. How’s the Pension doing the Chicago Police Pension is it being funded? Has he closed the massive amount of schools that have a full staff and few, if any students you talk about theft Are the feds looking in anything of course not they’re more worried about putting people away for the January 6 nonsense, than actually doing their jobs.

Payback to Related Development, track the money. New York-based national development firm Related knows how to play the game, make the right "DEI/affirmative action/subsidized housing" sounds, and make hefty political contributions to the right folks. Their local guy is just the presentation-host for their Big NYC Guy.

Rheinsdorf is front-man for White Sox franchise-ownership group, representing a number of undisclosed astute politically-connected wealthy white guys, who see franchise as a business enterprise, not a sports team endeavor, who maximize their political clout within Chicago Machine to garner generous "public money" subsidies and entitlements. Possibly biggest political clout-corruption entity, aside from consortium behind Richie Daley's parking meter deal. Don't be surprised if there are Pritzkers and Crowns in that top-secret cabal of White Sox franchise owners.

Follow the money-trail. That BJ Administration would even consider this massive windfall project for sole benefit of a bunch of old white guys tells you that Chicago Machine guys are ultimately still controlling Chicago.

Reinsdorf can take his grift act to Nashville and the Brewers can move their Nashville Sounds minor league team to Chicago. Nobody will notice the difference.

Both, probably, which is why the middle class is fleeing a city that works for the rich and the poor, but not the majority.

I don't think the mayor by himself can " give away" any city money. It would take a vote by the alderman.

This guy knows!
And he is probably a Southsider.

"University of Chicago economist Allen Sanderson once said that "if you want to inject money into the local economy, it would be better to drop it from a helicopter than invest it in a new ballpark." It’s a good line – and one to remember the next time your city, municipality, or state is asked to help pay for a sports stadium."

Don’t worry criminals will be licking their chops waiting for the new stadium to be built as every person leaving the game will be prime targets especially with the low income housing going up along with it. Now the bullet over the wall theory from Ol’ Jerry will be more plausible give the amount of drug feuds that will be solved with guns nearby. Jerry (if he’s still alive by then) his son and the idiot mayor will be scratching their heads wondering how attendance dropped even lower with a new stadium being built. Any public transportation nearby? Anyone wanna bet the over/under on how many cars are broken into on opening day?

2/23/2024 04:29:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ok, here’s a few thoughts. The state gets out of the stadium business by selling the stadium to the White Sox and Jerry can spend his cash on upgrading the area to ensure his legacy. The Bears sell off their Arlington properties to developers at a pretty good profit. A new football stadium and convention center is built on the 78. Lakeside Center and old Soldier Field are torn down and the lake front is returned to the public. Burnham said ‘Make no small plans.’

💩 conehead isn’t playing with a full deck, he obviously has some issues. Talk about needing mental health support, he’s a candidate for sure. Unless people were politically connected to big Toni, on welfare, police haters or one of the cps honor students , deceased that elected him. Citizens that work, pay taxes, respect police, want a better education system than cps union babysitters didn’t vote for this half wit. Could he have eaten lead paint chips, he still might, plants 🌱 growing out of rain gutters .
Send in the building inspectors. That trip to lA is peanuts, he’s probably making money from the illegal immigration’s $40,000,000 a month slush fund that goes to friends of family and political donors.
