Summer Comes Early
- Drivers set fire to a street in Beverly as they drifted and did donuts in the street this past weekend.
Concerned neighbors said organizers of the street takeover even managed to hold off police for a while.
The sounds woke Ken Jones from a sound sleep. A home surveillance camera captured just some of it. "Squealing tires and roaring engines," said Jones.
People were standing in the middle of a ring of fire as the cars spun around its circumference. That caught Jones and every neighbor living off 103rd Street and California Avenue in Beverly off guard.
No arrests, along with no penalties, so no dissuading the non-demonized yutes.
Where's the Stop Stick Unit?

Hold off the police for a while? What has happened to this dept? I can remember 10-1s where coppers kept coming from adjoining districts. These are sad and dangerous times. What will they do when the next terrorist attacks start occurring?Some management people need to think about some doses of pepper spray. It will only get worse because the City does not crack down on it.
There are companies that make non toxic smoke/fog generators for passenger cars. Create so much smoke you can’t see.

I'll bet a nickel that some enterprising someone could modify those watering public vegetation trucks with enough pressure to accomplish the task.
And peddle a fleet of them to neighborhood community organizations.
A bit of foaming agent added to the stream at nozzle and slippery won't begin to describe the results.
With additional sticky additives, plus that dye used in dye packs by banks, well, identifying everyone present would be a simple matter of who got turned bright purple.
And the businesses doing detailing of vehicles would prosper nicely.

There isn’t anything the police can really do to stop these take-overs. It would take cost prohibitive surveillance measures and a lot of leg work to track down and identify offending vehicles and drivers for what amounts to a misdemeanor traffic offense at best. Not really worth it. Officers cannot chase a vehicle or an offender on foot, and you’ll catch time if you purposely damage a squad car by hitting some goofs car. People get the government they deserve and chicagoans get it good and hard.
