Administrative Betrayal

The closer we get to leaving, the more this make sense on many levels:

  • In 2023, Police1 conducted a sweeping survey of over 4,100 officers to explore the biggest issues for recruitment and retention in law enforcement. Within the survey results, this latent truth emerges with clarity:

It may not be the trauma on the streets, but rather the trauma of administrative betrayal within police departments that is causing officers to leave in droves.

The article touches on many issues we've seen in the post "defunding" era and nails the "top-down rot" that has infected departments nationwide where persons with any sort of actual police experience aren't the ones running departments any more.

Or at least not in the blue state $hitholes.

Go read it all.

This is so true...the administrations of most departments suck and have no balls.

It’s far worse. I’d expect a “critical incident” such as a loss of life to be investigated fully. But being brought in to answer to a random person saying you stole their money from their car/pants/sock when everything was done on camera should absolutely not take 1+ year to investigate. That’s the problem we have. Looming investigations that take a year or longer for something that can be investigated in 1 hour by simply reviewing camera footage.

I left CPD for an out of state department. A lot of differences but some key similarities. The most glaring are the scaredy cat politician bosses that don't speak truth to power when it comes to the reality of police work. It's an ugly business sometimes. If you're going to make omelets, you gotta break eggs. Force is a tool we sometimes need to use to "force" the non-compliants into compliance. Everytime I hear those press conferences and listen to some tight collar academic pussy boss talk about "this is a tragedy" when the police are compelled to beat or shoot some derelict, I have to do a hard eye roll. Come the fuck on already! Put the responsibility where it belongs, in the offender's lap and stop sugar coating it.

It seems like years ago there were people who were clouted but competent. We knew they were clouted and they knew we knew. There were not that many problems and they took care of their subordinates. There were a few goofs. But as the years went by they started putting more clouted people into jobs that they had no experience and background in. That started the disintegration of the department. Too many who are unqualified. Remember anyone can be put in a position of supervision or management and can be unqualified but they are able to survive because their subordinate staff run the operation. Going back about 30 years one Superintendent said for every exempt that he made he was matched one by the politicians.

The Democrat Party is to blame. The public are the victims and fools. The Voters are nothing but suckers prayed upon by marketing, advertising and propaganda. The Democrat Party comes out and votes as if were a sports team with no real consequences. The country will be in shambles in the end. People need to pay attention to policies.

The "Police 1" article is weak sauce. There's nothing in that article that a CPD officer didn't know or foresee 20 years ago. The seven police leadership responses recommended in the article are laughable as well. It's "a sweeping survey" of what?! 4100 officers nationwide?! There's currently over 700,000 leo's in the USA {snicker}. I'm glad this is covered by SCC tho...it reiterates to the police and deputies in the red-states what a working CPD officer has known for a very, very long time. The rot starts at the top...and in city hall and in the courts. Now how do we fix it...or is it already too late?

If you look at the current command staff of CPD you would be hard pressed to find 1 legitimate police officer amongst this group. This department and many others have abandoned real cops who have actually done legitimate police work and substituted them with a diverse group of do nothings and house mouses that are expected to motivate and lead the department. This department is a disaster. Period.

In Chicago add Merit to the list. Useless tools being promoted over qualified tested individuals is sure to cause some real problems. Seems the key to success in the CPD today is “ who you blow and who you know”. Abolish all merit ASAP.

This has been known for quite a long time. Dr. Kevin Gilmartin, and his book emotional survival for law enforcement wrote about this and did research on it 20 or 30 years ago. We used to teach it at the Academy, but I’d be surprised if anybody even knows about the book at the Academy now.

Dr. Jonathan Shay wrote a book entitled Achilles in Vietnam. His work involved dealing with veterans who had PTSD and he discovered the three main causes of PTSD were number one interpersonal violence number two betrayed by leadership and number three demonizing the enemy all three of these factors are very present in law enforcement.

Wish me luck everyone! I’m leaving the never ending, moronic, psychopathic, ego-driven, useless, powerless, cowardly police department for a slightly less evil streets and sanitation job. I start next Monday. I’m so excited to finally work for people who share the same values I believe in. Family first. Hard work. Not sleeping with secretary’s, then bribing them with a favorable off the street job. Using my hands at work, without a camera attached to my chest listening to every word I say just looking for me to say or do one thing wrong. What a relief. I wish all you guys luck sticking it out on this dept. Food for thought, my fellow S&S brethren are hiring another 85 soon!! Don’t miss out. Come join the best!

Horse puckey. All change is for the worse, and since the turn of the century it's been particularly bad. What is needed is leaders that will hold the line and push back against the kind of political power that thinks that handouts and kid gloves will turn hardened criminals into Dollar Tree cashiers.

It used to be that those that got a merit bump were told by their Chinaman that if they caused embarrassment or made their clout look foolish, they would be destroyed and relegated to some spot far from home and do nothing position. Today there is no consideration given to the competency of the people who are bumped. They don’t know their jobs and they don’t know that they don’t know, the dummy down of the society and the department are also factors in this mess.

There are no leaders in the Department Brass, and we know it. We have no confidence in these lacky pretend leaders. All their bluster, threats, promises, lies, denials and deceptive practices are meaningless and worthless. You are trust betrayers. We know who the degraders are, those who are ruining and hollowing out the force. Don't look for heroic support during the DNC. You, BJ and the 50 thieves will get the basics and the rest is on you.

We're not the only ones who suffer administrative betrayal:

Harvard professor whose research found no racial bias in police shootings forced to hire armed security after radical blowback

That study confirmed what most in law enforcement already knew–that police officers are, in fact, less likely to use deadly physical force on blacks and Hispanics. While the study did confirm that police were more than twice as likely to use some type of physical force on those minority groups, they were 23.8 percent less likely to shoot black suspects and 8.5 percent less likely to shoot Hispanic suspects than they were to shoot at white suspects.

[…]

Ironically, it was serial plagiarist and former Harvard president Claudine Gay, a dean at the time, who slammed Fryer’s research and said his behavior with other employees at the university “exhibited a pattern of behavior” that didn’t rise to the expectations of the Harvard community.

“The totality of these behaviors is a clear violation of institutional norms and a betrayal of the trust,” Gay said at the time.

You may recall that Gay was forced to resign her position as Harvard president in January after her bizarre testimony before Congress, where she channeled anti-Semitic comments by refusing to tell lawmakers that Harvard students and faculty calling for the genocide of Jews violated Harvard’s policies on bullying and harassment.

After that testimony, people began to dig into Gay’s past and found her to have plagiarized a significant portion of her doctorate research.
