The Chicago Police Department will keep its access to the controversial ShotSpotter gunshot detection system after a last-minute deal Friday — hours before the contract was set to expire.
Mayor Brandon Johnson’s office hammered out a renewal to the nearly $49 million contract with ShotSpotter’s parent company, SoundThinking, to allow the police department to continue using the technology through Sept. 22, according to statements from the company and mayor's office. The agreement also includes a two-month "transition period" after that date.

The Slum Times is trying to spin this as "Johnson's office hammered out" a deal, but Conehead offered six months, SoundThinking said, "Nope," Conehead was avoiding press questions like they were contagious and taking all sorts of flak from aldercreatures representing the Wards that seem to have the highest shooting and homicide totals.
SoundThinking got two extra month out of the deal.
No one is saying how much money was spent yet, but Conehead is now not only the bitch to the Teachers' Union, he's SoundThinking's bitch, too.
Even more telling, Larritorious's name isn't anywhere in the article, meaning zero input.

I got a C note says they paid twice the going rate for this "extension ".
First, ponder the science/physics/tech of these gadgets.
Next, focus in on the weaknesses of said detections/identifications/physics.
Then, work the problem, aka how to discharge a firearm which is not detectable by the above tech.
Tech functioning as designed.
Solve the problem and apply the solution to your gangster straps.
Granted, this will require intelligence not present within your current gangster organizations.
Thus, an opportuniy blossoms, to wit:
Some enterprising someone, or ones, do the math, work the problem to theoretical solution, do the engineering required, manufacture as needed, and bingo, you may have an ageeable and desirable product to peddle to the ever expanding markets multiplying rapidly within this lovely region.
Granted, the risk of customers trick bagging your ass at point of sale/delivery are palpable.
As are the risks of all activities involving gangsters.

Once again can't stress enough how useless of a tool shotspotter is. Not to mention that Chicago shouldn't be the one coming out on the losing end of a deal. Shotspotter technology is already developed, the infrastructure is already in place, and outside of routine maintenence the overhead cost is minimal to aquire or keep customers. It would actually be more expensive for shotspotter to have to dismantle and collect their equipment than to keep a customer. They should be kissing their customers asses to keep them. Especially for such useless services. But of course affirmative action Johnson is an idiot so we'll somehow pay a premium for this.

The trick to negotiating with Daley was simple. Just ask him which one of his relatives he'd like you to hire for 6 figure "administrative" work. Looking at the Daley administration with rose colored glasses is great, but he was just as much a giant piece of shit as everyone who came after him, and he was really the beginning of the end for Chicago.

Maybe the CPD should remove all driver side windows in their vehicles, that way they could hear the shots being fired near them. Same result after the fact information. Money better spent on drones to determine who is shooting. Actually identifying the perp instead of a noise. Might help clear more than the current 10-15% clearance rate of fatal shootings.

Good video, someone here should introduce this in our legislature & and city council. The distance should be increased to at least 20 to 30 ft as aren't you most vulnerable to someone with a knife in that 21 foot circle. You could be bending over tryingto cuff someone and not have enough reaction time to protect yourself.
It would be a great tool for law enforcement for law enforcement and should be a felony.
So how close can you get to BLM Brandon or Gov Jelly Belly before the palace guard takes you down?

It was $49M over the entire time Chicago has been using it. It actually works out to around $10M a year.

It's main use is not for prevention or solving the shootings....it's to help keep Officers as safe as possible by providing them with critical information prior to their arrival you ass! Don't worry, there won't be a Drone Unit coming anytime soon so don't get excited goof cause you're not going.
