Blue-vs-blue battles at City Hall:
- The ShotSpotter gunshot detection system could be cut off this week as Chicago and the company remain at odds over a contract extension following Mayor Brandon Johnson’s announcement that he plans to nix the technology at summer’s end.
As we said yesterday, the prospect of more dead minorities doesn't seem to bother the progressives in City Hall.
Others aren't so sanguine:
Some City Council members have expressed grave concerns about how the mayor’s decision could affect public safety in a city that saw 617 homicides and more than 2,400 shootings last year.
During a City Council hearing Thursday, Ald. David Moore (17th) introduced a proposal that would keep the technology in place.

Chris Taliaferro (29th), a former police officer who chairs the Council's police and fire Committee, said he’s not surprised that SoundThinking would refuse to stay on through the summer.“When you have a product that you’re very proud of and someone says they no longer need your product, or we don’t believe your product is effective, are you going to be willing to stay around?” Taliaferro asked..
Another alderperson, who asked to remain anonymous, said ShotSpotter declined the extension after the Johnson administration “added insult to injury” by offering the company a “low-ball” figure that was less than the company was paid in 2018.
Larritorious has been publicly de-balled and relegated to the status of "Conehead's Tool":
The measure would most notably reverse Johnson’s decision and give his hand-picked Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snelling input “in decisions regarding the removal or reallocation of any police resources.” That’s notable because Snelling has been vocal about his support for ShotSpotter.
Ouch. After Larry's long and storied career of ::ahem:: conquests, being de-testicled in public like that has gotta hurt.

Granted it’s been quite some time since we have had a supe who “gets it”, but this guy is clearly in over his head.
Packaged well for the cameras, but not much in the way of substance.
It’s scary to think about the brain-drain in the upper ranks of the department, and how ill-prepared we are heading into what could be mildly put as an “anticipated challenging summer”.

So at the same City Council meeting they took up the matter of arbitration for Chicago Police Officers. You can watch the proceedings of the Meeting of the Chicago City Council for 15 Feb 24 on Vimeo.com. You get the visual and audio as well as a printed form of what is being said.
It starts out with public commentary and of course you have the testimony that the police/FOP are racists, brutal, slave catchers etc! The speakers identify themselves and their far left agendas. FOP President Cantanzara gave a forceful speech which I thought was very good.
Then the alderman who choose to speak against arbitration and those who favor it. Those who spoke in favor of the police were Tabaris, Ray Lopez, Napolitano, Sposato, Conway & Hopkins. Ray Lopez and Tabares gave the best presentations. At the end the votes were tallied and posted so you can see how your alderman voted. It is well worth viewing to see what the public and the politicians think of the police.
"Input" to be considered by politicians and their convoluted ways.

I never had the shot spotter app but friends from out of state did and would send me screen shots of where a shooting may have taken place. “Hey do you live near here?”If people (or folks) from out of state regularly viewed it you have to assume suburbanites did which deters them even more from coming to the city to spend money which is probably another reason Brandon wants to get rid of it. It exposes Chicago for what it’s become.

Since ferguson and floyd a concerted effort has been made to pull away from traditional methods of policing and a defunding of the police in big blue progressive areas. Technology available to police officers now is incredible compared to what was available 30 years ago. That technology came at a cost. Pay for all this technology and then place restrictions on your police department. It's no wonder that crime has exploded since 2020.

The digital automated Redflex traffic red light camera people put their money to work and were caught by the federal suits when fed prosecutors were actually interested in and investigated public corruption by democrats. If my feeble mind serves me correct and something no one ever did was according to the UCR Guide a shots fired call required a case report. Please correct me if I’m wrong. I’m old. It was stupid and a simple code usually worked 100% of the time
I have kicked dozens of shell casings down the sewers when I arrived at Shot-spotter alerts and 19-Pauled the jobs.
I do not want these places where people of color live to be wrongfully "over-policed".
The Shot-spotters are VERY racist and should be taken down ASAP.

Manpower issues are well known, but also well known is the desire of this newest crop of police to head in to the station to do all paper and waste as much time as possible inside, rather than out patrolling their beat. Case report for a few shell casings and no hits should take 10 minutes, and maybe 5 minutes to inventory, if the DSS is particularly busy. That's 15 minutes max for a nonsense report that's most likely going nowhere. But that car will be down for an hour and then ride the job into a personal or lunch. Here's a fun fact for you: the shell casings that you find when there are no hits belong to the same guns used when there are hits. That evidence could be helpful in future or past cases. Pretending there's no time to inventory a few casings, while also wasting time on other nonsense paper or struggling through e-learning for multiple hours, is just ridiculous. If the job is shots fired, do that job, even if it involves inventorying a few casings and knocking out a quick two line report. The next job will still be there 15 minutes later. Don't use the manpower excuse for laziness and incompetence.

Take your time on that e learning, you’re pushing a button declaring you’ve completed it and are now trained. When the lawsuit comes and you fucked up, they’re gonna pull your training history to show they trained you properly and you pushing that button affirms it, so know what you’re doing. They’ll throw you under the bus in a heartbeat so don’t give them the ammo.
