4500 at Lawrys was in Las Vegas at the national conference. It was a dinner for retired members who attended the conference from the west coast and didn't require a hotel reimbursement. It was a simple thank you. The same people complaining about this money also went to vegas and had their airfare and hotel covered like all delegates. Feeling played yet by this nonsense? The board approved the expenditures.
The KISS concert had NOTHING to do with FOP and not a penny was spent of lodge money. Yet another false allegation that this blog perpetuates needlessly to try and have juicy topics that attract views.
How about attempting to get clarification before carrying the water of a few. They would burn it all down to the ground just to be king of the ashes.

Firstly, we didn't write, nor were we contacted by The Contrarian prior to this article appearing. But as we try to keep readers informed of things, we didn't feel we could just ignore it.
John includes his explanation of the Lawry's trip. The KISS concert was listed as "allegedly" if you read yesterday's post. John again explains. Good start.
Getting clarification? Golly, our inbox and comment sections are loaded of disgruntled members who can't get a phone call answered politely nor an e-mail responded to for weeks and counting. What makes him think we weren't one of those emails? We have multiple email accounts across a couple of platforms, some even running through multiple proxy servers. And none of this addresses the strange policy and by-law changes that only seem to make transparency more difficult.
You can page through our archives and see that when John has done good, we back him 100%. When he skirts the edges, we give him the benefit of the doubt. And when there are legit questions being asked about decisions and policies and changes, we let people ask them.
That's the end goal - keeping the membership properly informed. And sometimes, that means addressing the rumors, anonymous or not.

Does this mean he gets a E-6 pension (Deputy Chief) when he walks away from the FOP ??
A Commander/E-6 now makes $186,636.00 @ year.
That would be a pretty damn good pension.

Why it’s none other than FOP Prez and hero to the naive, uninformed segment of the Lodge 7 membership, “J-Cat”. Reference page five the “President’s Report” of the July 2020 issue of the Chicago Lodge 7 magazine.
This was the first general meeting under the Cantanzara Cabal, King John pounding his chest and regurgitating bullet points from a tired old script, modifying it just enough to convince the impressionable present that real change had arrived, their best interests paramount and non-negotiable.
John’s campaign platform centered on transparency and inclusivity for all members, past practice of “the union knows what’s best for the membership” allegedly discarded in exchange for collaborative effort toward mutual goals.
Fast forward to current day. There actually exists tenured, educated coppers who are actively involved and well versed in the protocol, policies and bylaws of their collective bargaining unit, AKA the FOP. They’re keenly aware of the responsibilities and obligations expected of those elected to represent their best interests and that of the membership. They’re cognizant of past practices and historical precedent.
Coppers like this are flies in the ointment when it comes to business as usual over on Washington. They tend to ask the uncomfortable, hard questions and aren’t distracted by the propaganda in weekly video updates. Nor are they intimidated by being shouted-down at general meetings or when ridiculed and insulted at Board and committee meetings.
So it comes as no surprise that John, with the backing of a majority spineless board of directors, has made it Priority Number One to restrict access to documentation which surely contains evidence of impropriety and wrongdoing. The efforts by the Catanzara regime to suppress records which belong to the dues paying membership is unprecedented.
As mentioned elsewhere, all John has to do in order to dispel these damning accusations is “open the books”. Completely. No restrictions, redactions, time limits or made up rules regarding making copies of taking notes. In other words, do what every other FOP regime did.
But something tells me the word transparency doesn’t exist in the Cantanzara Dictionary.

I think John did a great job on the contract and I really don't thing spending $4500 on retirees at a convention is that big a deal, however, this Union is run by the retirees. They vote-we don't, they attend meetings-we don't. We can't even get 50% of the people to send in a ballot mailed to their house.

No one is coming to the microphone to screamed at by you or maybe bullied by Nenad. Did he make any meetings in 2023 I haven’t seen him in a long time. He must be busy. John your meeting attendance has dwindled. Ever stop to ask why? People are tired of the John show. That’s right, more then 4 people dislike you.
1. John requested the rules be made. His yes men who work in the office voted unanimously (and women) This was after the 3rd request in THREE YEARS. (By different people) They want to keep their spot and their captains pay.
2. People requested and used to come and look at documents all the time. (John included )This was the practice forever. Notes were allowed.
3. Access was denied, charges are filed, hearing pending.
4. Several questions remain, many to be asked by the IRS. Statements in minutes contradict what was stated at general meeting.
5. If you have nothing to hide, why hide it?
6. Your job that we pay you and your board members to do is what is best for the members. Many things happening that are NOT in the best interest of the members. Not taking a grievance because it’s too costly and then eating like a King is the move of a total asshole.
7. One easy solution to prove everyone wrong but you can’t or won’t do it. SHOW THE DOCUMENTS.
Cricket was eating lunch in the second floor when John’s secretary said John wanted to speak to her . Cricket said in eating and will be done in ten minutes . Spiewek responded “ this is only gonna take a minute !” When Cricket walked into John’s office the attorney for the Fop Brian Hlavin was sitting there when John told Cricket “ your services are no longer needed !” She was promptly walked to her desk to get her personal items . Cricket was a wealth of knowledge and Fernando’s daughter well she’s about as sharp as him . The entire staff either quit or were forced out except two people . If you aren’t complicit well bye bye . The field reps know that and follow whatever John says . Mette is on the 2nd floor doing what ? The psalm reader , bike rider , motorcycle rider and occasional let’s do a weekend getaway. More cops have killed themselves during this administration than any others . The taco truck was bought illegally to buy votes . But “ hey how’s the burger ?”

Honestly, look at the names of those who are active in the Lodge. So many of those people have been there for decades! It's sad.
People... there are probably 75 hard core anti Catanzara people.. Those 75 can easily each go 1 at a time to the board meetings. The board meetings explain everything and the books are available after the meeting. That means that 1 of those 75 would have to go to a board meeting once every 5 years.
The FOP is not perfect, but Catanzara is heads and shoulders above the past presidents with the exception of Dineen.
My SWAT, FTO, and Detectives agree. Catanzara came through.

Yes, everyone knows about that. I care about my the union dues that were raised against my vote and being used to treat out of towners. I’m retired and would like a steak dinner on the unions dime, but guess what I’m not going to get it.

There are people that hate his guts just because he won the election. Also we know 50 percent or less bother to even vote in these elections. How many even bother to attend a meeting.
But he should be forthcoming and not take a defensive attitude like the didn't do nuthing types always do. If he can explain the alleged abnormalities, explain rule changes, the closed books, and possible extravagant expenses then do so. Be upfront about it. His attitude says how dare you ask anything about what I do with your money. That's a red flag for sure.
What about that sky box, he didn't mention anything about that in his SCC reply. He has the money from his commander's pay job to blow on going to the Stupidbowl if he wanted to go. There are members who are former field reps who know the every day workings of the Fop . A field rep should be knowledgeable , educated on how to resolve problems , respond in a professional way and more important get back to members who need their help . “ I will get back to you means exactly that !” Can you imagine urging members to violate direct orders ? When these members are stripped their response is you made that decision not me . You decide to get rid of field reps and make members who ran with you field reps who have no clue then and to this day are woefully inadequate . A day of reckoning is coming and hopefully before the coffers with the approval of his Board is empty . It’s best to catch a thief early than later !

I heard earlier from a VERY reliable source once close to FOP finances that JCat has recently had a condo foreclosed on/evicted (2022 or 2023) and defaulted on a credit card (2024). This is a guy making deputy pay yet can’t manage a mortgage and credit card??!!! Now the hiding of the books makes perfect sense. Also makes sense who’s dropping all this juicy bird seed. You fire people for no reason other than to hire family and friends and these things will always come back to bite you in the ass. The IRS needs to do a full audit of the books. No, it means he can still collect his full patrolman’s pension IN ADDITION to Commanders pay.
Before John also changed those rules FOP presidents were paid the DIFFERENCE between their CPD salary and E-6 pay by the FOP/YOUR DUES.

The Fop had hired a former cop to be the head attorney three years prior to the Graham administration starting . The former recording secretary had made a deal with the former President to hire him . In three years he represented three cops in criminal trials and all three WENT TO JAIL . The Van Dyke trial cost the Fop 1.6 million dollars . Van Dyke was prepped for thirteen hours prior to being placed on the jury stand . Thirteen hours over a couple of beers the weekend before . After the guilty verdict the Fop hired attorneys who specialized in sentencing . At that point each cop that called the Fop asked for that attorney not to represent them . There was a motion not to give that attorney any more clients . Kathy Moore even when told not to continued to give clients to this attorney . The Board minutes for the Van Dyke trial were scrubbed by the former recording secretary . A motion should be made that all Board minutes should be released to all the members at the general meetings . It’s the members minutes not the BOARD OF DIRECTORS. This whatever he is doesn’t want anyone to see what he is spending YOUR MONEY on . The BOARD is COMPLICIT with him on this .
With all the enemies this administration has accumulated numerous enemies throughout this city , state and country . One day it will become apparent how much their members were being fleeced . Audits and investigations are coming and you cannot justify it by saying the Board approved it ! Good luck !
