I could see putting up more cameras in lieu of shot spotter. I doubt the funds will be approved though.

Half the districts in the city didn’t have a ShotSpotter to begin with. There are none north of Belmont.

Sdsc are more that shotspotter. Removing shotspotter will make this already dangerous job a LOT more dangerous for you guys still on it. So you'd rather have "Loud reports 5700 block normal" (IF they even call.. which they don't... its like birds chirping).. Instead of how many shots, and WHERE they are down to a small radius. You shouldn't be joking about this, you should push FOP to keep this. Its COPPERS in 3/7/8/11/10/15 ETC who benefit the most.. all you pretend cops "watch secretary" have time inside the station to make this shit with your 3 HM's you jummped on when you were a PPO 25 years ago dont have a clue

Everyone needs to quit being jealous of the smarter PO’s and Sgt’s that are used in there. That’s exactly why they are able to hand pick for that position so some dumbass with lots of time can’t get in there. It’s funny how everyone rips on the personal hand picked to work the SDSc rooms but there are lines out the door and phone calls off the hook asking for insight, information and job knowledge for various jobs citywide. Those rooms have made the city and PO’s safer. There should actually be a GO requiring a simple “thank you” greeting upon entering or calling the SDSc rooms.
Officer in the 015th district tossed his old bullet proof vest and vest cover into a garbage can at central and Madison. A lady digging through the garbage can found it. Unbelievable!

I don't work in an SDSC Room, but have worked in Districts my whole career, which has been longer than many people reading this have been alive. The SDSC rooms, if staffed with talented, dedicated personnel, are one of the best tools that has come along in many years. The cameras and other technology available can give current, useful intel to the field personnel that can keep them, and our citizens safer. I know some Districts/Watches don't always staff it with the right people, but that rings true for any position in the CPD. Most of the people commenting negatively on here either haven't seen a properly used SDSC Room, or are just jealous.
Do any of you people work in a district? All Shotspotter does is send an alert to the SDSC room. Oemc gets them too. Calling out Shotspotter alerts and orienting the camera is really a big part of their job.
What magic is the city expecting from shot spotter? It will be as successful at stopping shootings as license plates are at stopping accidents. Just pass a law that makes Chicago a gun free zone, that will stop all the criming.

Gunshot Detectors
We saw at least one, maybe two stories on the news Thursday night. Seems the City was installing Gunshot Detectors to the existing POD cameras down in Englewood in response to the Hudson shootings. We won't even go into the glitches and flaws this entire system is riddled with (and believe us, we know the problems), the fact is the system doesn't work as designed. Cameras point the wrong way over and over and over again. And 75% of the time, no one is watching them because they're understaffed and information overloaded.
But we suppose having a camera that calls the police is better than the current system - where two people are killed prior to 0800 hours and no one calls the police until nearly 1500. We hate to keep bringing up Kitty Genovese but it's apt. At least we aren't getting the reports like we did a few months back where 5 people were killed and first call to police was made by a neighbor who noticed a bunch of assholes looting the house of TVs and furniture. She peeked in a back door and noticed the "entrepreneurs" were stepping over a dead woman before calling 9-1-1.
Apparently, a deal was reached about 2000 hrs Friday evening to extend the contract thru 9/22 followed by a 2-month transition period.

Maybe some are like that but for the most part it's some clueless pregnant females that get hidden in that room and of course with handfull of years on the job. Those are better off being in callback answering phones but they get taken care of by Lt/Commander.

012 never had shot spotter . They were just watching the PODS if and when they weren’t watching Netflix or reading a book. They were the REAL police…just ask them they’ll tell you.

Should be a bid spot. The room was staffed even when there were down cars on the schedule. Disrespect was shown to coppers with seniority by who was chosen to staff the room. Play the game.

Please, what smarts? clicking a mouse all day and presenting a power point that an 8th grader can probably do a better job at? Hand picked? Lol, it's chosen for the scammer, dog ass, or scared nerd who plans to get merit to HQ one day for all his or her genius achievements watching cameras and looking for furlough trips on line. Spare me SDSC clerk. Oh, those Sgts, yeah cry babies they're getting passed on merit LT over a CAPS/DCO Sgt. Those rooms are for 15 years and up vets not for under 10 year wonders and house mouses who did their "time" in 22,20,16,14,12 for 2 years and it was to slow for them.
