How About Supplying Brooms?
In the summer months, if our elderly neighbors are having trouble with the heat or their lawnmower doesn't work, you know what we do? We mow their lawn. And in the fall, if we're out raking leaves, we try to do that for them, too. If there are leaves in the street gutters, we run the rake along the curb to keep the sewer grates clear so the fall rain doesn't stick around to make ice dams. During the winter, we send all the kids over to sweep off their stairs and run the snowblower here and there.
It's the decent thing to do, it makes the neighborhood a little nicer when everyone looks out for each other.
What's the excuse these people are giving?

A report claims that the shelter is infested with rats and cockroaches, is covered in rotting food and garbage, has water quality issues, and has open sewage problems, among other issues, Chicago’s WTTW reported.
The complaints about the conditions at the shelter in the 2200 block of South Halsted Avenue were revealed in emails sent to Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson in October well ahead of the incident in December when a migrant child died at Comer Children’s Hospital after he took ill in the shelter.
Now granted, these people might not be plumbers, but how much effort does it take to pick up after yourselves? Bag up all the trash? Make sure there isn't anything for rats and roaches to be able to scavenge? How much effort would it take to set up a garbage detail of able-bodied illegals to haul bags to trash to a vacant lot of city supplied dumpsters?
A little effort might go a long way....but then they might learn that the government isn't capable of taking care of their every need and they might vote Republican eventually.

As far as cleaning up, I stand by an earlier statement that a lot of these people didn't come here to work and make their community better. They came here to live off of handouts and government cheese. So far, they have been doing pretty well, but the bounty is drying up.
These people showed up at Police stations and made them a disgrace. They watched as housekeeping crews attempted to keep up with the cleanup necessary to maintain a clean environment, and they expect no less at these shelters.
Eventually, the city is going to begin rebuilding the CHA high rises that they tore down 20 years or so ago. In fact, I believe they will demand free housing, and the city will give it to them.

Years ago there was a solution to dealing with a lot of the poor. The counties had poor farms and the Roosevelt administration had the CCC (civilian conservation corps) to deal with that issue.

I remember in one after they got their apartment in Englewood (welcome to America mother fucker), they were talking about the challenges of how to live in a new land and culture. They said something to the effect of “there’s so many rules, it took a while to learn which garbage they could and couldn’t throw in the street”.

[OT] I just read the great news that one of Revrun Jackson’s non-illegitimate kids (Santita) got canned from her gig hosting a horrible early morning talk show on the local Radio Havana outlet (WCPT 820). Apparently she was straying off the Democratic Plantation too far to the left and bad mouthing Biden’s lack of support for terrorist Hamas with her lunatic BLM guests once too often.
Now Jesse will have to find some do nothing political office to have awarded to this moron of a daughter, like he did for two of his idiot sons or blackmail some corporation like Anheiser Busch into giving her some lucrative distributorship. Since the black politicians forced potato head Biden into rescinding the planned ban in menthol cigarettes, maybe Santita can become the sole distributor of Newports or Kools in the greater Chicagoland area.

I find the correct threat will motivate just about anyone.
I see so much of the bad neighbor behavior that I'm shocked when there is good behavior. I can't do everything for everybody all day being on disability, but I pick up more trash in a week with a cheap grabber and grocery bad than some have done in their entire lives. Love seeing their bills blow into my yard, including discarded mail with Chicago addresses (I'm in a suburb). Snow shoveling?? Some don't even bother doing their own, except to shovel snow into the street trying to get their vehicles out. Love when the plow shoves it all right back when they're out there. Yes, I'm a little evil anymore.
