I just saw this. It is an interview on Fox 32 morning news. Listen to this ultra-radical liberal Craig Futterman (law professor from Univ. of Chicago, heads a civil rights and police accountability project) in regards to the Dexter Reed shooing. I have listened to this multiple times, and it seems Futterman believes either #1 force was not necessary in this instance or #2 de-policing should be practiced and the police (tact team) should not even have been in that neighborhood.
For the life of me I cannot figure how a thinking human being can come to the conclusions that Futterman has come to. (of course he did not conclude that Reed did anything wrong , just that the police did everything wrong).
He faults the police for pointing their guns at Reed as Reed refused compliance.
“The beginning of this really violated every rule in the book … prioritize the sanctity of human life. There is a mandatory duty of de-escalation, to only use force when it is absolutely necessary , and, in this case, from the very beginning you had 5 officers, tact car …sitting on the hump in the middle (yes, strangely enough, he actually said this) geared up in tact gear, ready to go, and they were not there to stop people or give tickets for a seat belt violation, with 10 seconds of just jumping out of the car there were guns pointed directly at Reed while sitting in the car, that is contrary to every rule in the book (is it really Mr. Futterman?) about how you avoid situations like this and questions whether that stop should have ever occurred in the first place …and whether we are going to send tactical officers into lower income black and brown neighborhoods in Chicago and tell them to go out, lay hands on people, stop people wherever you can, get guns … that hasn’t been effective in keeping people safe (what is the alternative Mr. Futterman, de-police? Is that what the residents of Englewood want? Why don’t you ask THEM instead of some Highland Park liberal) : Wow. That’s his take on this? This is a community activist, and this is his take. The CPD keeps dragging its feet on the rehire process. What is the FOP doing about this. Does anyone know if I will, for the CPD pension, have 6 years or 8 years of earned pension years?

I choose to believe that most cops, firefighters and public employees do care, work and take pride in their work.
This is a nationwide problem. It is not just contained to Democratic runned cities or states.
My family is from Oklahoma and my dad, two uncles and a few friends are police officers there. Even they have trouble recruiting police officers. Even Republican runned states have trouble recruiting police officers. Also, states that are anti union and pro conservative also have very strict rules and weak unions.
I hope the situation for us improves. We need more manpower and we need more officers paying in to our pension fund.

You become vested in to the pension system after ten years of service. If you leave the department with less than ten years, you get your money back + 1.5 percent simple interest.
Now the above is based off my memory. You may want to call the Chicago Patrolmens Benefit Annuity Fund and ask questions regarding your individual situation.
Also, yes indeed the city is dragging it's feet in regards to hiring back former police officers. Why? That is beyond me.

processed and released from the Niles Police Department on the same
day.

For the former to be of effective positive value, the latter qualities must be absent in those who misuse/abuse their authority to command the former.

What are you doing about it? A lot of your questions could probably be answered by doing a little research on your own. If you aren’t currently paying union dues what does the FOP owe you? All these guys that left jumped ship during the most difficult time to be a Chicago Police Officer possibly ever. I don’t blame you for leaving, but remember when you left while the rest of us were dealing with the bullshit here, there was nothing in place saying you could come back. Now that there is, there is no guarantee that it is going to be a smooth and welcoming process back.

And as far as blowing through my taxes look at the CPD budget. $1.9 billion. Been that way (adjusting for inflation) since 2015. This for a city department that works 24-7, no time off in the summer and worked our asses off during the pandemic. Now look at the Chicago Public Schools budget. $9.4 billion ($450 million increase in just the last 2 years).
Which one is sucking up a vast majority of your property taxes chump? Which once of those keep churning out violent felons (created by overpaid teachers who teach their lazy students to hate the police and this country)? What's that...it's the police that are still the problem. Sorry...I can't hear you over the laughter coming from the CTU.
