Foot Traffic is Up?

We're going to go out on a limb here and say, "bullshit:"

  • The Loop is showing some signs of a revival as the average weekend foot traffic exceeded pre-pandemic levels in the first quarter, the Chicago Loop Alliance said Tuesday. But the group’s report said weekday activity still lags.

The average weekend pedestrian activity on State Street was at 107% of 2019 levels. During the workweek from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., foot traffic was about 91% of pre-pandemic activity.

Total pedestrian activity on State Street was up 7% compared to the first quarter of 2023, representing 1.5 million “impressions” per week, and at 94% of 2019 levels. The impressions are counted by analytics firm Springboard MRI, which collects data daily from counters on top of buildings along State Street, from Ida B. Wells Drive to Wacker Drive, that track silhouettes of people but not any identifying features.

Have you been downtown during the week? It's a ghost town.

And the buildings? Plywood forests.

The article admits as much:

  • Hotel occupancy was 51%, up 3 percentage points from the same period in 2023, and 11 percentage points lower than the first quarter of 2019.

Chicagoans and visitors are returning to the Loop, “but we have to give them a reason to stay,” said Michael Edwards, president and CEO of the Chicago Loop Alliance. “The Loop needs more investors to bet big on our district right now,” he said, citing wins from Google and JPMorgan Chase for their plans to open or refurbish offices in the Loop.

Google and JP Morgan aren't going to revitalize a dying restaurant industry or a dead convention industry. And tourists are correctly nervous about the wilding season ramping up. You know how bad it's gotten? Are you aware that there are only two McDonald's locations in the actual downtown area anymore?

We're willing to bet these automated tracking devices are getting their weekend number bumps from two-or-three-or-four-hundred jackass teens running around, taking over street corners, looting what businesses remain and beating whatever visitors stumble across their paths. Remember, these devices are only tracking silhouettes - nothing identifiable. You get a robot to count them multiple times as they run back-and-forth from the bikes and arrest teams and you can fake a few thousand "visitors" without any effort.

I must disagree with you as I currently work in 001… It’s picked up 100% since the pandemic and not in a good way. It might be a ghost town on a Sunday but during the week and on Saturdays there’s a lot of people out. Unfortunately criminals are included!

These hacks need to up their game a little. I mean if we're making up bullshit to make the city look good let's go full retard.

They should start counting it as "shopping" when someone drives a car through a store front and a dozen looters, excuse me, shoppers rush in and grab everything.

When some street takeover happens every donut should count as more vehicle traffic.

When a building owner has another storefront boarded up it should be counted as "investment in the downtown area".

The hotels being full of illegals and those same illegals pan handling may count as increases in foot traffic but they are not going to help.

In fact they are making things worse.

Just for perspective...I just got back from a weeklong vacation across the pond in London. As soon as you leave Heathrow airport there's 3 large and impressive LED billboards along the expressway declaring that Chicago is the "Number 1 city in America to visit" and has been for the past four years. Recent You Tube vids are filled with vloggers visiting this city and eating at Portillo's and Lou Malnatti's (check them out for a laugh). Europeans and Canadians I met say they can't wait to visit Chicago this summer. They want to see the museums, go on the river tour, walk the lakefront and riverwalk and eat at the Michelin-star restaurants in the West Loop.
They also said that they thought crime was down. LOL...go figure. I told them not to take public transportation after dark and to stay in the NW suburbs if they could. They looked at me like I was crazy. I guess the city's propaganda machine is actually working over there. If they don't want to listen to reason I say let them contribute tax money to our pensions.

The Bears need to go to Arlington Heights. The downtown is dead and the only way to save our convention business is to build a new complex away from the City of Chicago's "accepted" violence. Been working in the loop for 25 years. This is not the “revival” anybody sane would want. Tech is drifting into a few haves and mostly subsistent, so don’t bank on the big G reviving the restaurant businesses when they’re packing a lunch from home, like me. Sad to see so many places boarded up, worse to see what is here with so many moochers and hyenas treating it like a truck stop bathroom.

Be prepared for the show that’s playing and what’s on the way. I should have bailed on this some time between when the parking meters were sold off and when they painted up the streets to look like some aberration of a Sorry board game.

I have worked downtown for 30 years. The numbers are wayyyyy down. Yes it picked up a bit since 2000-2001 when no one went downtown but people are afraid now of the thugs that roam the streets day and nite. Suburbanites WERE the number #1 regular tourists 20 years ago … to eat or go on a date downtown. Now they are concerned about their safety. Just the young 20 year olds who grew up n other states want to go there b/c they don’t realize how worse it has become. A lot of restaurants have closed and newbies don’t realize it b/c they don’t have a real reference point.

Parking meter deal phase III. The Bears announced their plans to put the tax payer on the hook for their proposed stadium. The bond are to be paid back with hotel tax revenue. And the fine print? If those revenue "forecasts" fall short for what ever reason guess who is holding the bag to make sure the investors don't loose a dime. If the stadium is such a great deal, why don't private investors fund 100% of the project?

My conspiracy theory is that the parasitic politicians & their goons will crash the city to buy up everything cheap. But Chicago was never as expensive as San Fran or Manhattan. And Detroit, after it crashed years ago, never got built back up. Same for Cleveland. The cities remain urban jungles that now also encourage children to engage in deviant sexual behavior. There's some really, REALLY evil shit going on.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Oracle Corp.'s planned campus in Nashville, Tennessee, will serve as the business software giant's world headquarters, placing it in a city that's a center for the U.S. health care industry, CEO Larry Ellison said.

Ellison spoke about Oracle's plans for its Nashville offices during a conversation about health care technology with former U.S. Sen. Bill Frist at the Oracle Health Summit on Tuesday.

In 2021, a Tennessee panel approved $65 million in state incentives for Oracle, with the company planning to bring 8,500 jobs and an investment topping $1 billion to Nashville over a decade. Then-Mayor John Cooper’s office announced that the company, currently based in Austin, Texas, planned to build the new campus with 1.2 million square feet (111,400 square meters) of office space. In 2020, the Oracle announced it was moving its headquarters from its longtime home in Redwood City, California, to Texas.

Frist, a doctor and businessman, asked Ellison why Nashville was chosen. Ellison, whose company bought electronic medical records company Cerner in 2022, called the city “a health center.”

“We're moving this huge campus, which will ultimately be our world headquarters,” Ellison said. “We're moving that to Nashville.”

And now you have hundreds, if not thousands of illegal Palestinians? Do you know why Delta Force and SEAL Team 6 exist? Palestinians, plain and simple.
These people are inbred, as a rule. They produce mentally deficient males by the bucket. In the Middle East, they make them herd the sheep and goats because they aren’t capable of much, but herding and Martyrdom. So, one day the Imam shows up and starts grooming the kid for a special position. They explain the 72 virgins while showing the kid porn. They give him a little booze, heroin, whatever it takes to give him bravery for his mission. Then, they give him the keys to a car bomb, but they control the det switch.
Hopefully, they hit their new trust fund friends at an Ivy League school, but that is just me hoping they follow their normal pattern of attacking anyone that is stupid enough to help them.
Also, any female that loses her husband can become a shaheed. Being a widow sucks in their world. Suicide is usually preferable so they sign up to be a martyr. The burka is perfect for hiding a vest.
