PO Huesca - Line of Duty

With all the honors that go with it:

  • The procession carrying fallen CPD Officer Luis Huesca's body arrived at the funeral home at about 4 p.m. Tuesday. It is the same funeral home his close friend and fellow officer, Andrés Vásquez Lasso, was mourned at just over one year ago.

On what would have been his 31st birthday, Huesca's flag-draped coffin was transported from the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office to Blake-Lamb Funeral Home in Oak Lawn. His family followed close behind as hundreds of Chicago police officers escorted Huesca to where his body will now be prepared for burial.

Visitation is Sunday from 1 p.m. through 8 p.m. at Blake Lamb Funeral Home in Oak Lawn. A funeral mass is planned for Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church on Western Avenue in Chicago.

Hopefully, before the funeral, there will also be some good news in the manhunt to bring closure all around.

Maybe a picture of the young Amish gentleman, w/o a graduation cap.

Only picture I want to see is a mug shot.

P.s. Mama is a piece of ship.

(That's not a typo, don't want to cause problems.)

Rest his soul, and I’m glad to hear he will get the full honors he deserves.

As for the manhunt, I have faith that those involved in the investigation are extremely capable and highly motivated.

Not airing dirty laundry, but it sounds like there’s a sgt with a team in A/1 that needs to get a clue.
If he’s in over his head he should ask for help or let someone who knows what they’re doing step up.

Protect each other out here and please be safe all.

I am a po. I am also a mother to three boys. His mother is heartbroken. As any mom would be. Luis was only 30 years old. About to be 31 in a few days. Parents usually believe and feel that they will one day die way before their own child does. The heartbreak and pain is forever.

I was totally shocked yesterday while watching fox32 news...the reporter actually said that Chicago Police are looking for a heavy set (get ready for this) BLACK man for possible being involved in the shooting of officer Huesca. I also pray that the family of our fallen Brother (RIP) does not let CONEHEAD speak at the funeral!!!!

I feel terrible this happened again. Condolences to Officer Huesca's family and friends. How much can the Pullman District take? Do not let the Cook Country State's Attorney get near this. Change the offender federally. Put the death penalty on the table.

You are more correct than most realize. I watched my parents and my aunt and uncle wither after 2 children each preceded them in death. (Health issues as adults) Worse, murder never heals for a family or friends. Grief is horrible. When it’s out of the natural order, one never recovers.

It takes a piece from your soul that always bleeds. Those who remain behind can to nothing to heal it for the parents. If the death is by murder, it never leaves anyone who knew the person.
Sending prayers for they do help heal and provide peace if only temporary. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻.

The Chinese say "The worst thing is white following black" - that is, the white-haired parent following the coffin of the black-haired child in the funeral procession.

Just a Civilian (who isn't a parent and can only imagine the grief)

Who TF says it's not a 10-1 while knowing it's an officer down and then proceeds to sound so nonchalant and put this officers name over the air!?!?! My blood was boiling. And if he doesn’t turn in his shit? Are you going to resign sooner? Clearly he was distraught and trying to balance the emergency while avoiding anyone getting into an accident because let’s face it, getting there fast wasn’t going to revive the fallen officer he was looking at.

I spent 20 years on a fire engine, I have lost “brothers & sisters” to the job. But I do not remember a time when so many of the men & women who wear a star have fallen at such a high rate. My father was the police in the early 60’s until he retired. I vaguely remember him leaving a shotgun behind the front door. I remember blinds AND heavy curtains on all the windows. I absolutely remember the discussion about never opening the door or looking out the window when someone knocked. I remember police stations being bombed & I couldn’t understand the difference between a black panther (the animal) & the black panthers (the group). My dad worked in the suburbs & the 60’s were that bad. I sadly see several things. 1st my 90 year old father weeps when another brother falls. It sickens me that it’s open season on good people EVEN if they are the police. I pray every night for my family members who wear stars & shields & then I say another prayer that everyone goes home end of watch/end of shift. I pray that the karma train does its job & takes care of (however) the scum bags & assholes who steal the best of what our society has to offer. All you haters of police etc. watch tapes of 9/11! There are thousands of people running one way. Then there are hundreds of heroes walking towards the danger. W/O thinking of their families only that someone has to help. We (ALL OF US) lost one of the ones that walk towards the danger & it makes us just a little weaker than we were before. God Bless ALL of the Police, F/F’s & Medics. They start their shift knowing ONLY one thing, that the next 8,12, or 24 hours will be sad, frightening, tough, difficult but they answer that call every time.

You know when a 10-1 is called, you’re are going to get about 100 units from surrounding districts flying in, I wasn’t on scene, so I can’t tell you what they observed, but it’s possible they observed the unfortunate reality and didn’t need units flying in crashing into each other and getting injured or killed. There were probably tons of units on scene and another 80 will just start getting in the way or those 80 can stay back and park up along common roads used to get to a trauma center to ensure the ambulance gets there quicker. Not everyone polices the way you do.

For those who criticized the PO that was on the radio. Please listen to the whole audio recordings. Yes I do agree that he jumped the gun called it a doa and "not a 10-1" as he was distraught that he discovered the body was an odpo, but do you ALSO know that he was THE ONE who noticed the odpo was wearing uniform pants and then went ahead to unzip the odpo's jacket?

If they just stood there like and blank staring at each others, they would've never knew that was an odpo until the ambo arrive. If you keep listening into it, he was probably the calmest voice out of the initial bunch. Sure he made mistake, but so have all of us who said dumb shit over the air.

Keep LISTENING.
He DID NOT give out the odpo info over the air, that was someone else on tact that did it AND did the whole phonetic spelling of the name ota.
Don't crucify them while you were not there, a lot of these young bucks on midnight don't have that much time on the job and I would say that's inexperience. How much do you wanna bet that he was probably the most senior officer on scene and still got less than 5yrs otj. 99% of them don't even know what "cut to mobile" means.

Redirect you anger to some place else, because all we have are each others in rough times.

Please stay safe 008

then that was actually 862A gave the name and star over the air.

This is the whole recording, not the snippet that you got from YouTube.

So are you going to blame the dispatcher now for not cutting off 862A and keep it off the air?

All on duty and off duty deaths should be considered on duty death. Department policy requires officers to perform certain tasks and be professional witnesses which should technically place all off duty deaths as on duty.

Decorum for the deceased PO should have been followed. I don't know how much time the PO on the scene has, but generally someone working 1st watch has less than 2-3 years, except for the dinosaurs who stay on the watch cause it works for them.

That being said, I wonder if the responding PO had ever been taught the phrase, "squad, kill the mobile and let me know when it's safe to transmit." THEN, AND ONLY THEN do you put out the personal information of the PO.

Do you realize there is a possibility that a PO has a family member who may be listening to a scanner? A family member on the job who is listening?

If you don't know this stuff than you are incompetent and poorly trained.

Signed, A retired PO who HAS BEEN THERE!

Sounds like the officer who declared him DOA had never seen the great work done by CFD's finest whenever they help anyone. I saw a few times CFD revive someone otherwise thought deceased.

To possibly save a life, and yourself from criticism, call for the ambulance to either do what they can or to declare someone DOA. It's not the job of the police to declare people deceased, especially fellow police officers. Don't worry about fellow officers or "young bucks" speeding to the scene of a 10-1. That's their problem if they can't drive safely to a call. If that's your concern, logically you should never call a 10-1. You give a slow-down when you have enough units on scene to create a large crime scene, start looking for offenders, evidence, guns in garbage cans, on roofs, or wherever. A fellow officer who has been shot deserves everyone's help.

Many retired people coppers tried working at the Academy, conducting constitutional policing classes, trying to put some knowledge into the young children on the job, however, when Larry got in, he dismissed about 100 of them cancel the contract got rid of all the experience, then brought in more children with no experience to teach. So you got rid of a vast amount of knowledge coppers that really knew what was going on to bring in the young coppers who are teaching classes and telling about their best DUI arrest. Was not smart to get rid of these coppers now you had to bring over 100 coppers back inside that were on the street not a good move.

Everyone says “he was distraught”, that may be true.
But then maybe this isn’t the career path for him.
You are a goddamn professional law enforcement officer. Be distraught later, but in that moment you either perform or you don’t.
I’m sorry, but I don’t allow for the excuse that his emotions got in the way of his job.
Poor performance due to emotions is inexcusable.

The problem isn't "non-Gen Z" being willing to teach, it's people like you not being willing to learn and who plain don't listen to the wisdom being handed to you. There are officers in almost every district or unit with a star on their sleeves who want to pass on their wisdom. Find them, ask and learn. Don't expect them to find you and teach.
