A federal lawsuit filed by the mother of Dexter Reed contends he was killed by Chicago police officers who unlawfully pulled over his SUV last month and were “outrageously” aggressive as they approached him.
The lawsuit accuses Chicago police of promoting “brutally violent, militarized policing tactics,” and argues that the five officers who stopped Reed “created an environment that directly resulted in his death.”
Reed, 26, was driving in the 3800 block of West Ferdinand Street in Humboldt Park on March 21 when tactical officers in an unmarked car stopped his GMC Terrain. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability, the oversight agency investigating the shooting, has said Reed was stopped for a minor seatbelt violation.
But video footage released by COPA shows the officers aggressively approached Reed, drawing their guns as they yelled for him to lower his window and open his door. Instead, Reed opened fire and struck one of the officers in the wrist, according to COPA.
The other officers shot back, firing as many as 96 shots in 41 seconds, COPA said.
Firstly, it's still a violation, big or small, doesn't matter. Police are tasked with enforcing them all. You want it changed, there's a legislature in session....change the law.
Second, the "militarized policing tactics" is just a nonsense word salad. Define it and we'll guarantee nothing like that occurred or is taught or written in CPD directives.
Thirdly, Reed shot first, Reed shot at the police, Reed wounded an Officer....who happened to be black. We mention that to head off the inevitable accusations of racial profiling.
And lastly, can someone at the FOP sue the media outlets who keep saying "96 shots." All of the official documentation that COPA put on its website shows this to be a lie and the media continues to misrepresent the scumbag lib-tarded head of COPA Andrea Kersten's bullshit e-mail as an "investigation" that still hasn't reached completion.

He said why does everybody think we’re going to give everybody money. Before the Day was over he gave him $50,000 settlement on the cities behalf. He was the at fault vehicle. I looked at him and he said that was the best thing to do. I just wanted to laugh. It was an accident with a city vehicle. I just did the traffic crash report.
Now....the officer that was shot needs to counter sue as well as the officers for psychological distress. Time we start doing this! The easiest way to determine how many shots were fired by the cops is to simply ask the crime lab guys, not COPA. They took the guns, counted the rounds in the mags, compared them to shell casings, etc, etc etc. And when I was in my shootings I reported the number of shots fired by counting what I had left in my mags and subtracting from the total, just like the TRRs report.
I'm surprised that it took this long.

The cops need to get going on issuing the truth and pointing out the lies being accepted as fact in the Reed shooting. Virtually every media story states the "fact" that the police returned fire with 96 shots in 41 seconds with no mention of the 17 shots fired by the ghetto trash. Without any contradiction the 96 number is accepted fact.
The story of a seatbelt offender shooting at a cop and then getting shot at 96 times is much more incendiary than the truth. An armed criminal shot a cop from his SUV, which started a shootout with 4 cops over then next 41 seconds. During the exchange of fire the criminal fired 17 rounds going 1 for 17. The cops scored xx hits to the SUV, xx misses and xx hits to the criminal. Come on... somebody knows the counts on brass and where the rounds hit. You're losing the battle of public opinion.

Some shit brained have commented on the shots that 'missed' as if every shot fired by the officers was intended to hit the offender.
Anyone with any experience in an exchange of gunfire knows that to focus only on hitting the source of said gunfire often can prove to be less effective at ending it than distracting the offending shooter's focus on hitting you.
If anyone wants to jerk themselves off to ratios of shots fired to hits, do the math on the offender's shots to hits.
Every police officer that was involved in that shooting should counter sue Dexter’s estate. The police now have PTSD base on what Dexter put them through and they deserve to get a payout. Fuck Dexter and his family and fuck the city. You guys have earned every penny Dexter’s family is going to get with a settlement.
Black officer shot by Dexter should immediately file a civil lawsuit against his estate, for grievous intentional harm, a sizable tort payout.

There is NO provision for firing a weapon to distract "the offending shooters focus" in the CPD's Use of Force policy. The only comment I've heard that's dumber than yours was when some ill-informed old timers would advise to never score 100% on the annual qualification, even if skilled shooters had to intentionally miss a few shots-they claimed that if an officer was involved in a shooting and an innocent bystander was hit, they could somehow use their mediocre qualification record as a defense. Of course, they could never cite a single court case where such a defense was used, much less one where it was used successfully.

You are making the false assumption that "members of the community" have the capacity to equate actions with consequences. A significant percentage of that population only knows what they want in the here and now. There is no consideration for the consequence. Whether it's having sex without contraception or dropping out of school or resisting arrest, the negative result never crosses their mind.
