This one got lost in the assassination news:
One person was wounded after officers opened fire during a foot chase on the West Side Saturday night, according to Chicago police. About 8:50 p.m., officers approached two people in the alley of the 3800 block of West North Avenue to conduct a “street stop investigation,” police said.
As officers approached one person fled and officers followed, according to police. Police say the person was seen running with a handgun and attempted to throw it away but was “unsuccessful.” The person then picked up the handgun and officers opened fire, striking them multiple times, according to police.
The person was placed into custody and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said. A handgun was recovered from the scene.
Officers will be second-guessed by at least three different oversight agencies and the trolls in the media.
Well done and glad you're all uninjured.

Heard Mayor Johnson wants to increase the size of his detail by adding another 100 officers. Due to the attempted assassination on Trump, he doesn't feel safe.
A close quarters life and death street decision was made for better or worse. The results are there for all to see. The officers survived and while wounded, so did the man who pointed his gun at the police. A lucky fellow indeed. The fool who did not remember, or chose poorly, that if you point a gun or shoot at police you will receive the full measure of defensive return fire designed to neutralize the immediate threat.
Now comes the series of Spanish styled Inquisitions and Kangaroo Courts designed to confirm guilt on the officers involved. All this to the delight and pleasure of the special interest anti police mobs. The best to the officers as they face Torquemada and the inquisitors.

10 years OTJ here. To everyone who says “dont chase, stay fetal”, I say get a different job. If you saw dude walking around with a gun, as a police officer, yeah, you are to chase. I get it that COPA and Kim Fox and the city are out to get you but if you can’t handle that then you’re in the wrong line of work. You’re taking taxpayer funded money to be a lazy ass. Shit or get off the pot. I couldn’t imagine choosing to stay fetal when I was in combat in Afghanistan. I wouldn’t have volunteered to go fight if I wanted to be fetal. Sorry, but same shit here. That’s how this job is for the last few years. This isn’t a communist country. You have the free will to leave.

Go get em champ. The dept and city do not want you to do this, they have it written in policy that you will never be disciplined nor criticized for not engaging in a chase. Vehicle or foot.
After the last 4 years you seriously feel comfortable chasing assholes, shit sorry.... i meant justice impacted individuals, around this city? If you still feel like the city and politicians have your back if shit goes south; have at it. But the days of criticizing coppers for being "lazy," at least in regards to these situations are over. Protecting ourselves legally is now the main focus of everyday work life. Step 1 for that is recognizing that if the dept has a 10 page "general order" on something, they don't EVER want you to do it, or use it.

It all depends on where "dude" is walking around with a gun, if its in the hood, look the other way, if its in a taxpayer non democratic area then be the police.
