A.I. Surveillance

It sounds like ShotSpotter Junior:

  • Chicago is testing a mass surveillance tool to detect guns at CTA stations, even as debate rages around the effectiveness of another detection system used by the city, ShotSpotter.

The Chicago Transit Authority announced Thursday it is one month into a year-long pilot program with ZeroEyes, a company that uses artificial intelligence to identify guns in surveillance video and alert police. The CTA says it has deployed the technology on about 250 cameras at L stations — but it won’t say which stations, citing security concerns.

CTA spokeswoman Maddie Kilgannon defended the new technology as adding more “eyes” to its already expansive surveillance network of more than 33,000 cameras — the largest of any transit agency in the nation. In a statement, CTA President Dorval R. Carter, Jr. said “this added measure of protection provides additional peace of mind to everyone.”

33,000 cameras....and an understaffed CPD Mass Transit Unit to respond to any of it. This is going to provide "peace of mind"?

Great plan!

And the ACLU is unhappy....again:

  • ACLU Illinois spokesman Ed Yohnka said the biggest concern of his organization is the lack of public input. ZeroEyes’ technology was implemented without public discussion, he said. And it adds another layer of technology to a surveillance network that has failed to improve public safety.

“This adds an additional level of surveillance without a corresponding public discussion or debate if that level of surveillance is wanted by residents of Chicago,” Yohnka said. These technologies “all come with allure of adding more safety, but they never seem to deliver on that promise.”

As we've stated here for years, cameras don't do shit for public safety. All they do is ensure that your rape, mugging or murder is recorded for posterity and maybe one of those internet channels that post "real crime" stuff.

As for the "level of surveillance" Ed is complaining about, there's no expectation of privacy in public and even less on a public transit system. People are always free to walk or Uber or drive or take their own private helicopters to their destination rather than pay money to ride the CTA.

Reading the rest of the article, it seems like a shady pilot program for another connected company to help increase the billion dollar deficit Conehead is running up.

More money wasting bullshit. Our Democrat Overlords have assured us repeatedly that Mass-Transit is a Gun Free Zone! No guns allowed, the signs are posted, so we're all safe! Good to go! Nothing to worry about!

Tell ya what. Instead of wasting more money on this AI bullshit, just let the law-abiding citizens carry concealed firearms upon their person on mass transit.

Pookie gets popped by Grandma with a snubby .38 for trying to rob ole girl... Grandma steps over his smoked ass, puts snubby back in her purse and goes about her business...

After 2-3 of those, Dude's gonna rethink robbin on Mass Transit. Not as safe for Dude as it is now.

But alas, we live in Democrat Shithole #1, so it'll never happen. The only thing we can do is move out and take our treasure with us.

“CTA Boss Spent More Time Traveling World Than Visiting Chicago Transit Stations, Schedule Shows
While CTA riders coped with dirty and delayed trains and buses, Dorval Carter spent more than three months traveling to other transit systems around the world. A yearlong snapshot of his schedule shows few visits to CTA stations or staff events.”

I have seen this system work and it is next level software. It was spotting people with pistols and rifles from half a mile away even with less than half of the weapon visible. It then immediately alerts the company or school and calls 911 within seconds. It was developed by veterans to prevent school and workplace shootings. Don’t knock it what these guy produced is a game changer.

No wonder we have to get rid of shotspotter...otherwise how do we pay for this? At least shotspotter was proven reliable most times and saved lives. The ONLY proven factor in this new system is more of a budget deficit...isnt this racist?

Sorry ACLU you cant have it both ways. Record cops and other public employees and institutions and then say it is constitutionally protected activity then say when the government does it its illegal? If you dont want to be recorded by the CTA dont take the train. Stay home.

Evan if the AI system works and alerts PD who will respond in a timely fashion. If arrest does take place will Kimmy prosecute. No bail and release create the rinse and repeat system of justice that Democrats created in Springfield. More bullshit from city scammers. More empty talk from empty suits at city hall.

I absolutely agree. This is a stop and frisk application that can demonstrate the Information that was used in the calculation of the decision to stop and frisk. The operator will be able to demonstrate that race was not a factor in the decision to stop and frisk.

It is interesting that there are 33,000 existing cameras in the system, 250 of them as a one year test of this new system. So what is the actual cost of those 33,000 cameras and what is the cost of the 250 camera test? What would really be interesting to know is how many of those 33,000 cameras actually work and how many people are monitoring those 33.000 cameras.

Where was this new software created and where are the new camera manufatured? This sounds like something China would be happy to sell at a discount for their surveillance needs.

Probably true. However it will only be leveraged to identify responsible gun owners who disregard the "easy victim zone " (no gun zone) placards, because there's no expectation of responsible safety in public places- public spaces which are managed by communist ruling over their shitty cities/ democratic no-go zones.

It's just a mechanism to establish higher gun compliance crimes, thereto as if to say, "see our background checks don't work! We caught a 70 year old with a firearm! "

Check out zeroeyes YouTube videos. It’s only if the gun is displayed. Whoop d do. The current system of victim calling police works. The issue of a states attorney not prosecuting has not changed with the implementation of zeroeyes.

Wasted money.
