Lawsuit #1
As predicted, here comes the first COPA lawsuit that will inevitably cost taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars:
A former high-ranking police oversight official has filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the city of Chicago, alleging he was wrongfully fired after raising alarms about bias and mismanagement within the Civilian Office of Police Accountability.
The complaint, filed Thursday in Cook County by former COPA deputy chief administrator Matthew Haynam, marks the latest broadside against the agency charged with probing serious allegations of police misconduct, including officer-involved shootings.
The suit claims COPA Chief Administrator Andrea Kersten fired him and another COPA employee, Garrett Schaaf, after they complained to both a civilian oversight panel and the city’s top watchdog about the integrity of COPA’s investigations and the allegedly prejudicial actions of agency leaders.
Devlin Schoop, the attorney representing both former officials, said Schaaf was expected to file suit Friday. They were both terminated on Aug. 30 amid a firestorm at COPA.
We aren't sure to whom COPA answers to, but Conehead ought to look into firing Kersten ASAP because she is one bad headline after another, with no upside.

Agreed, but One-Term Johnson has so much going on right now, I'm not sure he can decide what to do first. He's following Lightfoot's path. No doubt the communists have a soft-landing job already lined-up for him. They're exceptional at taking care of their own.
The Muppet Queen is revealed!
A recent opinion piece published in the slum times called the Police Board, COPA, and the Community Commission on Public Safety and Accountability a Frankenstein monster of police accountability. COPA'a annual budget is 16.8 million and has 157 employees. Multiple layers of redundancy who often can't even agree on what day of the week it is. The city council needs to come to it's senses and show Kersten the door.
Fire her? Got to be kidding. She is in line for promotion.
FOP should start their own exoneration project of suing to reverse all of the illegal phony beefs that were sustained by COPA and get the wronged PIs a nice paycheck. It could be called the “Blue Wall of Justice”
Mayor Conehead is not bright enough to do that.
No upside at all.
This idiot, Andrea Kersten gave Ella French a three day suspension after her death and people are surprised to learn that Andrea has a biased against police? I hope Andrea gets cleaned out from lawsuit and loses everything she has. Andrea is a real POS and I hope she suffers a huge monetary loss.
Here is a major issue with this. This is the information that used by the DOJ in the creation of the Consent Decree. This information was used as it could be utilized as reference material. They didn’t utilize most civil lawsuits as they know that they aren’t legitimate and wouldn’t risk their law licenses. Think about this.
They don’t fight when convicted murderers say they’re wrongfully convicted and get millions. This they will fight, after all it’s not their money.
I’ll miss her.
Anyone else have a feeling that this is a set-up ?? Kersten knows she's on the way out probably ! Why not set up one of her co-workers by firing them intentionally to file lawsuit for a big pay day !!!
Who was the former copper that went to work for OPS, IPRA, or COPA and ended up suing them? Black guy. May have been a lawyer.
A person with common sense would fire Kersten. But, then again, Conehead is a moron who seems to seek out and embrace other morons.
I hope this is the end of truly any accountability group or organization. They are fleecing the taxpayers by tooth and nail, plus no “accountability” on their end whatsoever! It is time to remove the consent decree, reverse the “Saf-T-Act and allow the police to start policing again without fear of retaliation or going to prison!
The No Balz City Council will do nothing. They are only concerned with maintaining their power and looking for the next fat envelope from somebody that nobody sent. Kiersten is a public embarrassment for Conehead and that is part of his mantel of corruption. The soon to be one term mayor is a complete failure and chief stooge for the CTU.
Lornenzo Davis
Then you need more range time.
And See BS has a story that one year in no bail shows no problems
Maybe they should be introduces to CWB
Lorenzo??? Was he an FTO back in 2001?
You're probably right because common sense is a rare commodity around here.
She’s finished
COPA needs to pay reparations to the falsely accused officers and the citizens of Chicago. Any anyone involved in a biased investigation and the supervisors who signed off on them need to be held civilly liable. Hit them in the pocketbook like they did to the Officers and the City.
C'mon man! He's a black man with a black family! You cannot judge him!
I just googled his name. Lorenzo Davis just died.

Too bad this horrible act of Andrea Kersten and COPA was not brought up this week during the sentencing phase for Ella French's murderer.

From what I'm hearing obese alderman Chris Taliaferro, the former IAD sergeant pushed Andrea Kersten's confirmation through. Shame on that blob.
I don't think he can without the new Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability's recommendation.
He was not an FTO. He retired as a commander in 2004.
Heard second lawsuit was also filed by the other COPA employee that was fired for the same reason. Someone should find both lawsuits and put them here for us to read.
