What a difference a day or so makes:
Under fire from first responders and their City Council champions, Mayor Brandon Johnson said Wednesday his hiring freeze will not impact the city’s police and fire departments.
“It’s one of those, to quote the NFL, `Upon further review,’ “ Public Safety Committee Chair Brian Hopkins (2nd) said Wednesday. “Initially, we were told it’s an across-the-board hiring freeze. … They rushed the announcement on a Monday morning without fully vetting it, not realizing that it was something they would have to walk back. There was pushback from the aldermen. They went back and realized there were positions they really needed to exempt from the hiring freeze.”
On Monday, Johnson froze hiring and travel and eliminated overtime “not directly required for public safety operations” to begin to confront a burgeoning budget crisis that will force him to close a $223 million budget gap by Dec. 31 and a $982.4 million shortfall in 2025.
Budget Director Annette Guzman’s memo to city department heads made it appear the hiring freeze would apply to a $2 billion-a-year Chicago Police Department that already is roughly 2,000 sworn officers short of the strength it had just a few years ago. The only exception appeared to be police positions mandated by a federal consent decree outlining terms of federal court oversight over CPD.
Those "exceptions" are most likely the politically motivated "oversight" personnel.
In the meantime, the incompetence of Conehead's administration comes to the fore without any prompting or encouragement. If there was a republican somewhere in the city, they'd try to figure out how to blame them for this debacle. But it's all democrats and "progressives" across the board $hitting the bed, so there's no one to blame except the jagoff at the top.
Conehead will have his revenge though - expect massive property tax increases, along with another wave of middle class homeowners of all races fleeing the rapidly disintegrating city.

"Hiring and OT Returns," this is coded language for an unofficial hiring freeze will occur and non-reimbursed OT will be "controlled." The same thing as 2001/2002 and 2009 all over again.
So can I take the 55 and out at 45? Call it an buy out so the Department can get to 7k sworn/
The Consent decree mandates that there be one sergeant to supervise every ten officers in Patrol, and not just on paper, but in practice..
So can I still scam 10 hours a day at 26th and Cal 5 days a week while I hang out at the gin mill down the block?

Without hiring on the police department and OT the city will sink further into the abyss. As for the fire department they have minimum manning in their contact. Which means if the daily numbers aren’t met they must give out overtime.
So, that OT “not directly associated with public safety” does that include a certain 177 Sgt on “light duty” who watches YouTube for his OT and cleared ✌️his original salary??? Asking for a friend.
DOJ needs to investigate the organised harassment within the OEMC.

This is why those who can leave are doing so. We are paying for the people from other countries who invaded our country. Those taxpayers that must stay will be burdened by paying for them. Sending them back is the only answer. We can’t afford them.

Once the selected meritorious few make it to their promised ranks the hiring/promotion freeze will resume. Just wait, I’ve witnessed this magic before. These aldermen couldn’t give any fucks about the ordinary citizen’s safety concern. Promises have been made and promotions will commence uninterrupted.
Conehead's time as mayor will be exactly as joe xiden's time as "president". A complete disaster. Prepare accordingly.

Coneheads failure to manage his own personal bills should have been a clue that hes not a leader. Ok so what does this actually mean for regular officer overtime? The headline "Hiring and O/T returns" makes guys/gals think that that everything is back to normal.... How about giving some clarification
Does that mean the districts will not be going back to normal overtime as usual and only apply to major events such as the Chicago Marathon/Lights fest on Michigan ave???

This the first time in about a week I haven’t seen any smack talk written about the newly minted Lt John Sandoval. Just by reading all the shit written about him I’d say it appears he’s the most disliked CPD officer of the last 25 years. He’s easily surpassed the likes of Maria Pena and the Dillon sisters! Way to go Lt Sandoval you must be a real piece of fucking work!

OT is not back. All units got a memo that all OT will be signed off by a DC, again. This includes all Detective Areas and Units.

Any time anyone cites money as a reason to take/not take a job I use this analogy:
You get a job making an incredible amount of money, way more than you expected…arbitrary, but let’s say it’s $150,000 or more a year…working as a taste tester at a manure factory. Every day, for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week you’re eating shit. All day every day. Spoonful after spoonful. Mouthful after mouthful. That’s your job.
Sure, the money is great right? But how long could you last? If every day was just eating shit all day, how long would it take before you’re absolutely miserable? A month? A couple months? A year?
Of course this isn’t literal, but “eating shit” comes in a lot of forms. Could be a toxic environment, could be a boss that sexually harasses you, could be unsafe conditions, could be the threat of retaliation, could be unfulfilling or demeaning work, could be a horrible commute, could be a lot of things.
The point is, don’t ever look at a job and say “well it’s paying a lot of money - how bad could it be” because you’ll find out real damn quick how bad it can be.
For the record, I’m not shitting on CPD (or any others) but money shouldn’t be a driver for getting into police work. Ever.
Any more jokes to add? Have not had more than 2 sergeants on the street in years. Even so, with 3 there wouldn’t be a 10-1 ratio. Need 4 on most days, sometimes 5. We only have 4 sergeants assigned to the watch.
The inspector general is waiting for a complaint with evidence. Sounds like you are complicit in their theft if you know about it and refuse to report it.
