Mayor Brandon Johnson will propose a 2025 budget this week that backs away from a potential fight with the city’s unions.
Instead, the mayor’s budget plan will largely rely on pulling dollars from the city’s tax-increment financing districts and a significant property tax increase to close a $982 million shortfall, according to City Hall sources not authorized to discuss the budget plan.
The mayor's office did not respond to a request for comment.
There's still a chance he can't get it through the City Council, but it will be a battle.
We certainly wish Chicago still had those hundreds of millions spent on illegal aliens over the past few years.

We just got a significant tax increase on the reassessment for our home Taxes. Now another one he gave all the money to the illegal criminals. They’re not even working they don’t have to work. I know we're all supposed to be one big happy organized labor family , but can we really sustain our workforce? Look at garbage collection. Every one of us has seen how the suburbs do it. Contracted to Waste Management who utilize ONE person on a truck who works an articulating arm to reach out and dump the bin, rather then our 3 people to a truck for the same service. This alone would eliminate 1/3 of labor costs at Streets and San. And we can really still afford city positions of "drivers" who's only job it is to transport other workers to job sites, then sit in the truck and watch them work? They can't pick up a shovel?

My bet is if President Trump is elected, in order to obtain the funds for deportations, finishing the wall, rebuilding the military, etc., it will come out of the Departments of Transportation and Education. If the City still wants to continue to receive federal funding or grant money for the Police, CTA, Housing, etc. it will have to renounce sanctuary city status and permit ICE arrests. Check out your People's Gas bill. There is now a mandatory charge of $5.27 / month for "Low Income Discount Adjustment". I called People's Gas asking to opt out and was told this new charge is being assessed to EVERY residential account and it was approved by the Illinois Commerce Commission. On top of the huge property tax bill that's expected we are now subsidizing gas bills for those that can't / choose not to pay their bill.
