This was a shocker no one seems to have seen coming:
- Hundreds of
PepsiCo workers are being laid off, after the company decided to close
the plant in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Monday.
Some workers said they have been with the company for more than 45 years. The workers said they came to work as normal, and were told the plant was closing and to go home.
Many workers left with tears in their eyes, trying to figure out how they will provide for their families. "No notice, none of that, blindsided," former PepsiCo truck driver Eric Gadson said.
People who have spent decades working blue collar jobs, dismissed without any warning whatsoever.
Preliminary reports from the unions claim this is a violation of the WARN Act that requires sixty days notice for any major layoffs. But recourse would appear to be slim.
How's this going to fly with Conehead's property tax hikes?

The workers get no sympathy from me. They are probably all reliable Democrat voters. They will of course blame the company for not bending over and smiling for the Democrats that the workers put in office. Voting has consequences.

Actually it IS a violation of the WARN Act if they are closing the plant without 60 days notice, UNLESS the plant employs fewer than 100 employees. If the employees are unionized Pepsi should follow the contract.
I can remember playing football on the grass at the Pepsi plant as a kid at 51th & Union many of the kids in the neighborhood dads worked there at the time ! Another employer, and tax revenue run out of town by the corrupt, incompetent democrats ! Chicago is in a fast spiral around the drain won’t be long now before it becomes the next Detroit !
They're paying them for 60 days rather than giving 60 days notice. Absolutely allowable.

There is a silver lining for the affected employees. Mayor BJ Johnson negotiated new jobs for Chicago from London businesses. His work was so strenuous with all his heavy lifting with round the clock negotiations similar to Office of the President elect Trump required him to take in a Bears football game with his sizable security detail on the taxpayer dime.
Privately mayor BJ fears there will not be a large enough pool of workers for the tsunami of jobs he has lured to Chicago. Mayor BJ cautioned Chicagoans they had better don their designer Comme Des Garçons life vests cause their is an employment title wave coming from London to the south shores of Chicago's Rainbow Beach.

Amen. The only good idea Prickwrinkle ever had was that pop tax - cover all the costs Stroger Hospital gets stuck with caring for Diabetics who've never worked a day in their life - and so of course that tax quickly became the only thing she's ever done that didn't actually stick around.
727 also covers all the film industry trucks, and Pritzker did a lot of work to get more Hollywood shows here. Likely why they immediately endorsed DNC-whoever.
They can keep the employees on the payroll for 60 days. Nothing says they have to let the employees actually come in to work for their pay.
