Down nearly negative-three-hundred-percent!
- A woman was shot in an Edgewater alley this afternoon, Ald. Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth (48th) said in an email. Shootings in the neighborhood are now up 300% compared to last year.
Chicago police responded to calls of shots fired in the 5900 block of North Kenmore around 3:20 p.m. and found the woman with a gunshot wound to the leg, Manaa-Hoppenworth stated. She said the shooting occurred in the alley between Kenmore and Winthrop.
[...] The shooting occurred just a few hours after Manaa-Hoppenworth said she was “outraged and disheartened” by “recent gun violence incidents” in her ward. So far this year, 20 people have been shot in Edgewater, up from five in all of last year and ten during 2022.

When she banned crime topics from her newsletter in May, the first-term alderman tried to drape her decision in a scholarly cloak by linking to a couple of studies that she said supported her thinking, including one from the University of Tehran. Anyone who wants to know about crime in the ward has to opt-in to receive separate emails. Presumably, they’re the racists who live in her corner of Edgewater and Uptown.
So by her own definition, Manaa-Hoppenworth is now a racist and is fueling an "inaccurate public perception about crime rates."
No word if she is one of the fourteen aldercreatures demanding a return of ShotSpotter and a return to fully funding the CPD, along with re-funding those 400 spots Conehead eliminated.

I’ve a neighbor who is a professor, nice person in general, but she actually told me one day she read a study that said brightly lit neighborhoods bring more crime. Another neighbor told me locking her doors made her feel less safe. I’m surrounded.
Anyone who uses the term “gun violence” should be immediately discounted as ignorant, uninformed and/or uneducated as there is no such thing. Inanimate objects in and of themselves (such as guns) are incapable of anything but remaining static. Same goes for vehicles involved in DUI collisions resulting in death. Both only are capable of (mal) functioning when operated by humans.
Get back to me when you want to discuss the correlation between crimes involving firearms and black and brown gangs, generational black and brown single parent households and the perpetual victimhood mentality as perpetuated in nearly every aspect of ghetto culture.

I have a friend who lives in a rural county in NC. She and her husband brag that they never lock their doors because they “feel so safe” in the community. They ignore the fact that the county has a huge meth problem and some South American gang members have moved into a big trailer park about a mile from their home. Other neighbors of theirs have multiple guns and are vigilant but these two prefer to virtue signal and go through life pretending that nothing bad will ever happen.

19th Ward resident here. Just curious where Matt O’Shea has been lately? Every list of Alderman opposing anything in BJ’s agenda has one notable name missing and that’s Matt O’Shea.
