Officer Enrique Martinez on Monday despite a claim that the family
doesn't want him there, the mayor's office told ABC7 Friday.
Officer Martinez died in the line of duty earlier this month during a traffic stop near 80th and Ingleside.
According to the Fraternal Order of Police, the officer's family does not want the Chicago mayor or Illinois Governor JB Pritzker to attend the funeral.
Governor Pritzker has said he will not attend.
But guess who is more important than the grieving family?

Funerals and wakes are held on private property. The owners or management of those properties can notify him that he's not allowed on the property, or will be prosecuted for trespassing. Or the employees can just let him know he's not allowed once he arrives and that he must leave. They can prevent him from entering, forcibly remove him if he enters, and have him arrested for trespassing.
Wouldn't the family, as lessees of the venue, have rights to trespass anyone from the premises?

Trespassing at a church during a funeral - that's a great resume builder. So is it the highest ranking EPU officer's responsibility to remove him, or does it fall to the highest ranking CPD staff officer present to assume the responsibility to remove him? Who’s is going to talk about the fact that a shotspotter could have easily assisted with the initial 911 call from the woman at 82XX SouthIngleside? There was an initial 911 call from a female that claimed that her vehicle had being broken into, and that she shot one of the offenders. Responding beat officers spent time looking for the woman and trying to determine if the spots were bonafied. Eventually other officers went to the area and encountered the murders in the same area. Thank you mayor for taking the shot spotter and thank you Superintendent for rewriting the Use of Force Policy to satisfy the consent decree agreement.

The Illinois funeral act (225 ilcs 45) gives consumers certain rights and protections when they purchase funeral services. Most funeral homes are considered PRIVATE companies because the deceased members family have planned a list of those who could attend. This means conehead can be turned away from the service. Perhaps Catanzara and his people should do Martinez honors and stand by the door and refuse the mayors entrance. His gutless entourage cant do shit.

I’m retired- 9161 and am more than willing to be a human barrier and prohibit his entry until his detail arrests me. Normally if the funeral is open to the public, I don’t think legally the funeral home can do anything to prohibit entry.

A very simple solution to allow the family to mourn without the Mayor grandstanding for his ego and to appear on the local news
#1 A wall of Blue can surround the funeral home not allowing his entrance.
#2 His entire security detail (which are FOP union members) call in sick.
#3 FOP reaches out to other unions for assistance. If the Teamsters told the Mayor if he shows up ALL deliveries inside the city would stop.

Ex-cop-now undertaker here. The funeral home is private property. The next of kin has what is known as the Right To Control the funeral (RTC). If the next of kin doesn't wish for a certain person (s) to attend, they have the right to bar them from both the wake and church funeral. Unfortunately, I deal with this more often than one would think, but if a barred person attempts entry, it's tresspassing.
