No U.S. city is feeling inflation more than Chicago, according to new data from WalletHub.
The financial website said the “Chicago-Naperville-Elgin Area” has seen a 4.3% jump in inflation year over year, the biggest increase in the country.
A report from Crain’s Business said the higher prices are mostly due to a 6% increase in housing and transportation costs.
Might also be the cause of the almost 40% downtown vacancy rate?

Transportation costs? Like red light cameras and speed trap flash cash generators. Or excessive taxes on gasoline. Or perhaps municipal wheel tax sticker compliance schemes. Or could it be public streets used by private companies to generate parking fees. None of this crap exists in less urban areas.

40 years ago the same events while driving yourself (no DUI enforced unless in crash) cost people $60.00.

Retired early here. You have to move way out of the city or state. But houses are cheaper, and property taxes are much lower. Dinner is nowhere neare $550.00 And there are very few if any, metheads or tweakers out here. There are part time jobs available that pay with health benefits. If you can still work, you will be very comfortable as long as you dont live in debt. My house is paid for, I pay my CC off every month, and life is at a much slower pace. GTFO ASAP Chicago...
There's plenty of people like me who don't go anymore not because of the cost but the tax. I'm not paying them to screw the place up....

Its costs more to insure a vehicle too. All those non prosecutions of Kia boys and assorted vehicular hijackings encourages more similar criminal behaviors have lead to astronomical increase in insurance premiums in certain Chicago area zip codes. Factor in the hit and runs and uninsured drivers involved in accidents. Again the cost is borne by those playing by the rules, namely the working class that democrats fake concern about. Don't worry, democrats are racking up the successes taxing the working class out of existence. And the same could be said for Chicago's business community with their vehicular operating expenses.

How much money leaves the state in pension obligations paid out? Seems like everyone cant wait to retire and get outta Chicago and Illinois for a warmer climate, lower taxes and cost of living. Never met anybody that retired and moved to Illinois. When the retirement paychecks are spent in other states on everything from housing entertainment food ect. Illinois is funding FL TX AZ NV. You would think the pols would have figured out a way to make retirees want to stay. No state income tax isnt enough when property taxes and sales taxes are so high.
