As if having a tourist get shot while walking with her young son downtown wasn’t bad enough, police this morning are investigating a shooting that occurred outside a terminal at O’Hare International Airport overnight. Unlike Sunday’s shooting in Streterville, a suspect is in custody for the latest incident.
In a media statement, CPD said a suspect was in custody after the shooting occurred when “an altercation occurred between multiple individuals outside of Terminal 2” around 12:54 a.m. A 25-year-old man suffered two gunshot wounds to his lower body. Police said his condition had been stabilized at Lutheran General Hospital.
Here’s what else we’ve learned: Shortly before the shooting, police at O’Hare received a call about a fight in progress near the baggage claim carousels at door 2A. The fight continued outside the terminal doors. Moments later, one of the men involved in the fight produced a long gun, possibly a mini-AK47-style weapon, and began shooting outside door 2C.
Police initially believed a second person had also been shot at the airport, but it turned out that his injuries were the result of being beaten, according to a first responder who was at the scene. He was also taken to Lutheran General. Both the man who was shot and the man who was beaten have local addresses.
Oh, just local rapscallions getting their shooting on? No problem. It's like "street theater" for the tourists!

And if they really want deception, they should get a dummy to sit in the front seat and place a coffee cup and a donut box on the dash which would authenticate the prop thus thwarting all criminal activity.

I was assigned to the airport before my promotion. I got there on a rare bid...It was a lot like what I am reading here SCC. Very clicky, and gossipy. I never rolled in clicks and was looking to bid out when my class opened up and I got out of there.
There was a lot of kissing up, drama and crying out loud. I called it "As the Airport Turns" It was the most unlike police unit I was ever in, even to this day. As soon as you got there "people were asking who got you there?"
If you enjoy hiding, then that may be the unit for you. They are specialists at it. Roll calls were a "gathering of frowns" as I recall. The bosses were clout heavy and acted like it was all legit. I'm willing to bet that the WC and the Sgts had meetings about who to fuck with next.
The fact that "dude" felt safe enough to pull out an AK and fire multiple rounds suggests that the police coverage there is terrible. Everyone should have a foot post IMHO. A lot of coppers there looked like they could use a good walk a few times a week. The airport had the potential to be a decent unit, but the way it is run just ruined it. I was better for leaving.

I worked at the airport. We called it "Game of Thrones"...everyone sucking up to someone somewhere. New bossholes coming and going And I do believe there are members there who report things to HQ...35th st knows what goes on there and everyone is paranoid. For some reason, no one wants to lose their spot. I often wondered what the management percentage was there. If you talked about filing a beef for getting passed over, they got real jumpy...The airport was a perfect place to carry someone that never had to report to work if you get my drift. Remember Ed Burke ran it for a long time. Who knows how many envelopes full of cash were generated out there.
Anyways, I'm retired and out of state now. And I dont talk to anybody from the airport.
Worked both midway and ohare special employment. The assigned guys hated us, they felt we were “stealing” their overtime potential for their days off.
