Another Great Idea from Springfield

You know those homeless encampments in the parks, under the bridges, up and down the lakefront? Be prepared for even more of them:

  • A growing group of Illinois legislators is sponsoring legislation that would prohibit local governments from enforcing fines or criminal penalties when “people experiencing unsheltered homelessness” occupy or engage in “life-sustaining activities” on public property.

Among the “life-sustaining activities” that would be protected are “moving, resting, sitting, standing, lying down, sleeping, protecting oneself from the elements, eating, drinking, and storing such personal property as needed to shelter oneself.”

So far, 23 state representatives, including Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch, have signed on as sponsors or co-sponsors of House Bill 1429, also known as the Homeless Bill of Rights.

Tent cities and group camps have caused problems in neighborhoods across Chicago, from West Loop encampments that sparked shootings and drug dealing to the two-year occupancy of Gompers Park.

What we really need is for these "tent cities" and encampments to be built on property owned by politicians or trusts controlled by politicians so they can enjoy the crap they're saddling everyone else with. Kids can't play in public parks any more because of these homeless assholes blocking access to play lots, ball fields, leaving all sorts of needles, trash and bodily waste all over the place. Where do the politicians think they are - San Francisco?

I think every person that signs this bill should have a tent city on their block. They can enjoy the smells of human waste and the sounds of sirens at all hours of day and night for fentanyl overdoses. They can gingerly walk down the street and dodge human waste, used syringes and used condoms.

Well you can't question the dedication of Illinois politicians to the destruction of civil society. Fully backed up by the worst people in the world...AWFLs who will never deal with the consequences of these policies from their Pickle Ball clubs in Winnetka. Let them eat cake....

We can find hundreds of millions of dollars to house foreign nationals who entered the country illegally, but can't find a dime for Americans living on the street because they are crippled by untreated drug and alcohol addiction and mental illness? MORE Americans dying in tents solves nothing. Temporary housing AND TREATMENT would get people out of the parks faster. And if they refuse to go, then file commitment papers against them as dangers to themselves who require involuntary confinement.

San Francisco has a low income plan for speeding violators. A discount if you are "poor." I'm surprised that Mayor BJ has not implemented a policy like that.

Because that would probably make the city liable for any crime, injury or death that occurs on them. They can claim humanitarian sympathy when people set up shop on their own accord.

Always follow the money of the sponsors of these bills. Rep Kelly Cassidy who sponsored the legal weed bill - well her otherwise unqualified activist wife Candace Gingrich took a job as an executive with a weed grower. I’m sure some would have these sponsors have family getting paid somehow for the homeless outreach. By the way, the whole 211 thing is a joke (the number you are directed to call for the I houses). I’ve called it. Guess what happens? They direct you to call the police on whatever homeless situation you are trying to resolve.

The problem is the MFn ACLU. They are to blame for this mess. They fight on behalf of people living how they want to live, even if it degrades your quality of life. Democrats have bitched for decades falsely blaming the entire dismantling of mental hospitals on Reagan. They fight entire idea of it was to throw that to the states. Illinois - Chicago specifically. Rahm closed over a dozen mental health offices across the city. This city & state largely run by democrats for decades has done little to solve the problem. If anything, they’ve outsourced that task and how much of that is subject to any oversight?

There are probably plenty of newbies on the job that support this foolishness. I have been encountering quite a few left wing liberals on the job lately, more than the usual. I have no problem stating "being a left wing liberal is contradictory to your job". However, as most liberals are stupid, they cannot comprehend. The newest members cry and complain the loudest, but will vote in the same assholes that they are crying and complaining about. That is basically the the definition of insanity. I support the belief that liberalism is a mental disorder.

No way chummer. You must not have spent any considerable time in Cali. That state is a truckstop-bathroom hot mess. LA's skid-row and the San Fran sanitation lot encampments make Chicago look like a republican paradise. We here in Hellinois are still only at a piss-bum level...they are on deuce-and-a-half dump-on-your-doorstep level. And don't get me started on Cali's insane tollway fees, traffic tickets and water taxes. There's a reason people are fleeing a state with such beautiful weather.
