- Hey SCCNew recruit class of 60 started last Friday… Academy personnel were informed they will be the last ones hired, until September. All new recruit hiring is suspended.Instructors were told in no uncertain terms that deployments this summer will be plentiful and to plan accordingly.Why the hiring freeze? New exams are being held May 30th and 31st and they scraped the bottom of the [...] barrel hiring criminals, non-English speakers, wide bodies and females… oh, yeah and some budgetary savings.
These kids aren't graduating before November and we expect they're going to be deployed in some capacity on-and-off every weekend this summer, probably in Districts at the Desk.
Anyone from Personnel have the retirement numbers for May/June/July?

Why have over 400 FTO’s if there is no one to train?
You can count me in those retirement numbers. I’ll be coming off the medical for one day to turn in my star the next day. Yolanda tried to “makes meez gets off da medical” but she just doesn’t understand how things like the contract work.
Hiring and promoting undesirables is what CPD is all about. I just can’t wait to get out of here.

Is it true the old academy is getting all kinds of repairs and will continue to serve as the main training facility for years to come?
Is it true the new academy building has been deemed woefully inadequate and is quietly being acknowledged by city hall as a loss?

Don’t have the exact numbers for May 15, but there was a heck of a lot of copper going. Let’s just hope the pension fund can hold out. We are what 2 to 3000 copper short as it is and yet they are still promoting their special people we need street soldiers we don’t need any more bosses. However, the bosses can be useful idiots and we could use them for all the overtime and forced them to do whatever they are told They took the position and now this is how this works

Good. The current recruits in the academy are the worst most disrespectful and worthless crop we’ve ever had. DEI only reason any of them passed background checks. They are awful and I actually fear for the future of the department for the first time. These are former gang members and they still have active friendships with current gang members and drug dealers. It used to be maybe 1/100 in a class was a bad apple and had criminal connections but now it’s 75/100 of these recruits are active or former “members of the community.” Would not be surprised at all if facial recognition run on these recruits hits for 2020 looting and anti police riots.
B.S. Working at the academy means you summers are ruined. We pretty much work every weekend. Been that way since 2020.
We need more police officers. This department is already short staffed. It will be even more short staffed when people retire.

These defund the police geniuses are about to get stung and no quick fix to the problem exists. It takes years to recruit and train up a young officer until they are effective. If you are in patrol you only have two hands and can only be in one place at a time. Officer safety is the top priority.

Becaus our department is run by moron's ! If it's still happening the same way then most take the FTO spot to move to a better district and then drop it once there ! The pay bump may have changed that slightly ??

The new academy can’t handle recruit classes, there’s very minimal classrooms. The new academy is good for what it’s currently being used to, in service training, that’s about it. Recruits come shoot there but other than that they’re at the old academy.
You must be blind, most of the new officers coming on the job are Hispanic or White

It’s not as cool as you think it is. It’s a tax deduction and it phases out the more money you make. The deduction starts getting smaller after an income of more than 115,000 and goes to zero once your total gross income hits 155k. This is bad for older guys on the job and anyone who is a supervisor. If you have 25 years otj you’re only going to be able to deduct about 5500 total which then equals to about an extra 1900 at tax time.. better than nothing I guess. But if you’re a Sgt making 135 base you will end up getting maximum about 300 after all is said and done. This is big for people who make 50-60k and work a lot of OT and they can claim 60k or more OT to get 15k or more back at tax time.. for us, nobody will be getting rich.

2013 exam was the exact same, 15k potential recruits. Last exam 176, so CPD shifted towards online tests.

Oh yeah so ruined. You get to accurately predict your check off time 5 days a week. Awful! You have to work the street once a week in the summer but they won't let you handle domestic after domestic after domestic. While most of us are handling large crowd gatherings every summer night, you only have to do it at a parade/festival/teen trend maybe once or twice a month???? That's tough! You have a reliable place to pee and poo your entire shift, how traumatizing! You get to b**** about the department, AND try to make it better at the same time??? Street coppers aren't receptive to you? The horror! And then once summer is over you don't get to deal with any street nonsense once a week anymore??? Man who would ever want to work at the academy? Not me! No thanks!

It’s your own fault if you are still miserable. I retired, stayed in the city near my kids, have great neighbors and live in a nice neighborhood. Also don’t pay state taxes on on my pension. Enjoy the great restaurants and entertainment
