Eighty-four percent of Illinois communities shrank since 2020:
Small towns in Illinois are getting smaller, suffering the bulk of population loss since the last census.
Of Illinois’ 1,294 communities, 924 of them with fewer than 10,000 residents lost people since the April 2020 U.S. Census. All told, 84% of Illinois communities lost people, according to data released May 15 by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Guess what stopped it from being worse?
- Virtually all the increase in population last year was likely because of the arrival of international migrants. More than 96,000 international migrants arrived in the Chicago metropolitan area last year and nearly 240,000 have come since April 2020.
And of course, these were the best and brightest. All skilled college graduates with jobs lined up, and....
Oh wait....
This is why Illinois lost a Congressional seat and is on track to lose another in 2030.

Yes, do it. Moved to a suburb of Houston in 2019. Second fastest growing city in the country. Nice people, good kids and good schools for your kids. Hard to find a good Italian beef sandwich but we have plenty of GREAT Texas brisket. Fair enough trade. And they just announced they're building SEVEN THOUSAND HOMES just down the street from me. Best of all NONE OF THESE HOMES WILL BE SECTION EIGHT. Unlike Illinois. TEXAS RESPECTS ITS TAXPAYERS.

Congressional seats are awarded on population census, a census in which the government is prohibited from asking about citizenship. So, you flood an area with non-citizens and in the next census the area stands a great chance of gaining or keeping a seat in Congress. That, I believe, was the sole reason Biden and his lackies allowed the mass migration.

Retired here...I voted with my feet and my property taxes are less than one third of what I was paying in Chicago. And the kids that graduate from the schools around here seem a lot smarter than the "highly esteemed" "non-demonized" CPS school graduates. And so far, most of the people I have voted for have gotten elected. I have returned to Chicago once, and do not plan to return again any time soon.

I decided to reluctantly stay put here. Without a "gold braid" pension, the numbers didn't make sense for me financially to pull up stakes and relocate. I don't golf, so relocating to a better climate for that lifestyle didn't suit me. I like the familiarity of Chicago/Cook County. I just hate the politics!
In the winter, I can afford to leave for a month (thanks to Air B&B) and go somewhere pleasant for what it would cost me for just the monthly HOA Fees for a month if I owned an overpriced condo in Florida or Arizona. The next move I make will be to my property at Queen of Heaven! lol

Last summer, throughout June, July, and August, Houston had a grand total of just FIVE days that weren't above 90. Plus their isolated electrical grid has proven to be unable to handle this population growth. Glad you love it there, but I love my nuts too much to subject myself to tropical heat for 6 months or more a year. Yikes.
