As long as Harris remains at the helm as a steady leader, we will survive another year downtown. After he retires, this department is in serious trouble. You can rotate and shift commanders and people but there’s only a few real leaders left on this department.

Congrats to R. Rivera!!! Great guy and leader!!! Worked with him in different places over the years, can't say enough good things about him!
Never heard of Rivera but seems to have quite the storied career. I didn't notice much time in patrol according to his resume.

I want to be there and ask Barz questions on how he handles IAD investigations only to be blamed for the eventual law suits that it started. Why he was about to be put n Brady list. Better off how was he double dipped while an exempt rank and working for Bears……and how he cried about cheating scandals in IAD until they promoted him to Lieutenant and then he stops crying?
If you want a Tool, look at Barz. He is the greatest mind in the CPD that’s why he can write anything and no one will read it. Could not happen to a nicer guy!

No one's bids there cuz they have to deal with POs in districts like 2 and 3 that scew up every case they handle .. leaving the d unit to clean it up or have no way of getting any leads to solve it.

He never left the station as the captain there. Was afraid to work weekends and sat in his office. Constantly yelling and screaming at officers and Sgts, he must have been the only one who would take 018 as commander. He is the worst choice for that district.

Mendoza from 011 is taking 189
15 years in patrol?!? RR has 18 total years OTJ. His last stint was a sgt in mass transit and before that as an officer in various phone call units / teams. He spent about 6 months as a brand new Lt in 006. So you must be a CPS math expert to claim the majority of his whole 18 years has been in patrol. LAPA is alive and proud to push their own into the upper ranks. Spare all of us the nonsense. Next you’re gonna tell us that RR made his promotions on the test…….let me save you the trouble he’s been merit the entire time.

Was a merit sgt with like 5 years OTJ. Made Lt. by rank score and was promoted to Captain a short time later. His juice allegedly was from while his mom working in Jim Mauers office many years while his dad was on mayor’s detail as a sgt I believe.

11 years in patrol before he made sgt in 2017 .. and went to 15 and worked in 15 for a moment before he went to Homan.
So let's do some basic math
11 + at least 2 years in 15 = 13 years-ish in patrol (guessing on the low side)
18 years on the job minus 13 = 5 years not in patrol
So yeah 13 years out of 18 would qualify for saying most of his career was in patrol.
You must be a alternative school hold over freshman if you cant calculate that basic math, plus you cant read because the post never stated RR spent most of his career in patrol.

Why is it coppers cant stand other coppers who got ahead .. just because they themselves cant get ahead due to them being to busy hating on their coworkers. Merit promotions are only getting ahead of other more deserving people. Not saying every rank order person is legit (I.e. the Patty Casey study people) but many paid for classes and study long hours taking away from family and outings so save me your “getting ahead” BS unless you mean everyone BUT MERIT hacks stealing spots.
Not sure why anyone cares but RR is a good dude. That being said it’s unfortunate but true he has been promoted merit every time. That speaks towards the officers passed up on exams because people “Jump the line” so to speak to be promoted. People can be happy for the guy but don’t get mad because people call out merits. If people accept the merit promotion they should be ready for the nonsense that comes with taking a spot from a rank order person. Merit doesn’t mean you earned anything. People
Need to stop confusing the issues because the department uses merit as a tool to keep connected people in the loop or in charge and not to “reward”

Old timer here. I Remember a time when the Tact Lts used to be the police and problem solvers along with the tact Sgt’s / officers. Now it appears the Tact Lt is a hiding Spot for Lts who are either too dumb to be a WOL, too nervous to put their name on anything or afraid of working the streets with their people. The SC blog should have a post where everyone can rank their respective Tact Lt to see if this is correct. Good luck 025 I heard that guy is a pain to work for. Here’s hoping for better times ahead for the young officers there. Hard enough to work the streets and now when you have a real joker as a Lt is makes it way more difficult. Hopefully he gets the boot soon or they move him to another place.
Pensions aren't drying up because of people promoted to exempt ranks; they've all put in their percentage their whole career, just like we have, and still do now at the exempt rank wage. The pension fund is at risk because of past, shitty investments, the city not contributing their required payments for many years, and thinning ranks of membership.
Just remember to thank God for Miriam Santos, she stopped Daley from his raid on the fund. Her reward was an indictment orchestrated by Daley, as retribution, and to derail her political career. Daley knew she was a Mayoral threat to him, as the Hispanics were on the upswing in political power, and she was very popular. He knew she could beat him, so she had to go.

Scratching my head at that trying to figure how me congratulating someone and giving back to those hating is a projection of mine own insecurities... but ok. Eitherway I dont envy him for getting the spot and now having to deal with all the bs that comes with it. No thanks, which is what most talking smack about him getting merit would say about it as well. Hate the fact thay another copper got the merit over them yet wouldn't want the spot and all the stress and drama that comes with it if they themselves were offered it by merit or even "score".
Look at the PC numbers of the current sgts class and tell me this process isnt flawed in ap many ways. Can't wait for someone with 8 years on to show me how its done.
Everyone hates the merit process... well then stick together and demand the union change it .. but that would takr unity amounts one another... amd cops hate one another too much to do that! So just keep crying on the blog about it.
