This Inspires Confidence

We thought there were gates, bollards, barbed wire, tire-shredders and armed guards protecting the airport. Guess not:

  • Another security scare hit O'Hare International Airport this weekend — this time involving a delivery driver who drove into unauthorized secured areas before someone caught on. His explanation might be a shock.

Travelers at O'Hare are likely familiar with the sight of cars coming through to pick up and drop off passengers. Anyone caught stopping for too long is told to keep it moving. The tight ship run at pickup and drop-off makes what happened around noon Saturday highly confusing. A DoorDash driver drove through secured areas before someone realized he wasn't supposed to be there.

A source told CBS News Chicago the delivery driver drove miles along the interior and restricted roads at O'Hare — potentially crossing runways — before someone spotted him from the air traffic control tower.

Hearing this just makes us wonder that there hasn't been an airport incursion by someone with motives more sinister than delivering a sandwich.

Well thank goodness they removed swat from the airports. I'm sure the KMA club POs working at the airports are ready willing and able to engage a terrorist at any time. We should promote more Georgas' to command positions. After the IDF came and did an evaluation of the airports, and they were astonished and sickened by the absolute lack of security, it would make even more sense to remove the one asset that would or could prevent a slaughter. I'm sure any 60 year old PO who can't run more that 3 steps would be more than capable of dealing with a group of terrorists with ak 47s.

What a joke 050 is never see a police presence , go to another airport traffic enforcement etc , guys with rifles patrolling k9s walking everywhere , at 050 you see a guy smoking a cigarette, or ASOS collecting another paycheck after retirement .

Airport security here has been and is way understaffed and lax. No bosses capable of actually knowing wtf they are responsible for away from the terminals.
Even though Feds subsidise airport infrastructure it is a ghost operation.

Unit 050 is dangerously short on manpower. If it wasn’t for OT there wouldn’t be enough officers to fill the beat cars on some days. This has been a huge problem for the last few years and yet nothing is done about it.

The driver wasn't mentioned by name. Likely an illegal who can't read English. Venezuelan "newcomers" dominate the restaurant and grocery delivery apps in Chicago. How are the apps allowing them to have accounts, inquiring minds want to know...

Put the driver in jail for 364 days. Civil action again door dash of $10M. That will stop the nonsense.

I flew in and out of O’Hare at least 12 times last year, not a huge sample, and not once did I see a single PO or Aviation officer. Yet at the destination airports, police were visible and actually patrolling outside of the secure area, you know, the area where the actual security breeches would take place.

O'Hare is a cash cow for the city and the concession stands and restaurants are only given to the connected. You would think someone with half a brain would pay for attention to the security short comings at the facility. Oh wait, that would be proactive.

Officers assigned to the airports are useless. Old dogs!! I understand you put your time in but put these guys in the armory or at the supply warehouse. Snelling is soooooo big on uniforms and here you have ass hats looking like shit on their segways and that’s the first impression these tourists get of us. Fix it!

Now, now...I know all of you short timers want one of those spots at the airport. With your ten years on the job we all know youse gym rats are rock hard and ready to battle with the Al-Quida and various terrorist attacker types. All kidding aside
everyone is assigned a post. if someone got a car on the runway it was a management failure for not having someone there at a post to stop him. If the Commander doesn't have enough personnel he should request an overtime initiative for more people. Personally, I think it's a big enough victory that they got all of the piss- bums out. It was getting pretty rank when you walked into the airport and could smell the piss from outside the building. Whoever cleaned up that mess did a great job!

I never got anything on this job without bidding for it. It's called seniority. The only other way to get anything with no time on the job is to give good head or to call your Godfather. The guys that bid into that unit had their time in and earned it that way. If we didn't have a union contract these guys, along with you would still be pushing a beat car on midnights in 015. The bosses of the cherry pie units hate the contract also since they would like to fill airport spots with nepo babies and clout people. These bosses wouldn't let you in with thirty years on the job if union contract didn't force them to open bids. Here's a helpful tip for making a move. Put in a bid even if you don't think you have no chance of getting it. Sometimes the person who got it pulls their bid and you might get lucky. It's happened to me a few times. I knew guys that wouldn't put in bids over being called "disloyal" to the watch. Fuck that. Make the move that's best for yourself. Or how about not wanting to leave your partner behind? And then you got left behind when your partner used his phone call and left. You'll get your time on and get what you want. Don't let it make you miserable.

An IDF written and video assessment of Unit 050 highlighted serious deficiencies of numerous incompetent officers but made a horrifying example of a former CPD Spokesperson (JM) and his stunning lack of response or basic understanding of simple tasks. To quote, “ This buffoons irresponsible behavior resulted in his being banned from even having access to a CPD vehicle and his unwavering lack of common sense put other Officers in jeopardy.”In conclusion it stated the Officer believed his attendance at his prescribed assignment wasn’t a priority and mocked him as being aloof and believed he could ascribe to the Covid Protocols of working out of his home. In short he’d find a way to go home and simply blow off his jobs. Remember boys, you are being filmed or followed everywhere…thankfully.

Airports operate under the illusion of security. They put all kinds of visible restrictions and safeguards in place, without actually securing the property in any significant way. Ticketed passengers are the only ones who actually experience any kind of actual security.
