Here a Tax, There a Tax
FanDuel announced plans Tuesday to slap a $0.50 transaction fee on every online wager placed in Illinois, an additional juice that the sports betting behemoth says it has to squeeze because state lawmakers are saddling sportsbooks with a new tax on every bet they take.
Legislators who signed off on the first-of-its-kind per-wager tax to help bridge a $1 billion state budget gap say big gambling corporations like DraftKings can afford another dent in their profit margins.
But after sweeping sports betting tax hikes last year, leaders of the booming industry claim the one-two taxing punch will lead to worse odds — and drive bettors to the black market.
There's a tipping point, where the cost to RUN a business doesn't work out with the cost of DOING business. It's a balancing act.
There are tiny brains who will insist that even if a business is making a single penny in profit, then they will continue to do business....and they ought to be taxed that extra penny. But the fact is, they'll just move their business over the border to someplace that taxes them less, increases their bottom line for shareholders, and expand into untapped markets with friendlier business climates.
We already do most of our food shopping in the suburbs, we fill up the car in another county (remember - gas tax goes up from forty-seven cents on 01 July!), larger appliance purchases are made out-of-state and we're looking into transferring our friends and family cell service to a cabin in the woods.
If there isn't one already, someone will create a work-around in the electronic betting industry.

Would be so freaking sweet if businesses would take a stand. And like this BS if they would just say ok, thank you Illinois and cut the bets from Illinois off and see what happens! They might get a change but until someone pushes back this BS will just get worse and worse.
The fat coward governor of Illinois was afraid to answer a question of why he supports men using a ladies bathroom. He’s the worst politician in Illinois . Even Conehead might sayno men in my ladies bathroom, she has bodyguards.
These illegals in my option are the number one cause for all of these taxes. You can’t expect to drop hundred of millions of dollars if not more on bunch of Venezuelan freeloaders and not feel it in your pocket book.
Make your bets in Indiana!
Tax Welfare!
I miss the old fashion bookie. Burlesque shows too.
New flash, as of the first of the year shipping costs for orders mailed or delivered from a vendor without a physical presence in Illinois are taxable. This mostly targets eBay and Temu users. So the 7.99 shipping and handling fee is now taxable. So its really not a sales tax. Illinois has a GST. Also, Illinois is the only state or territory that taxes prescription drugs (but not co-pays). Enjoy!

Because their mantra is: You're not paying your fair share, they'll eventually get around to taxing everyone's breathing.
Gotta pay for those sweet pensions, salaries and benefits! Oh wait. Wasn't I supposed to say that?
Correction on the gas tax -
It’s currently 47 cents, it goes to 48.3 on 7/1.
NOTE: That’s only the state tax…county and city taxes (as well as 18.5 for the feds) is additional.
IL has the second high gas tax in the country. Only CA is higher.
I am with you Old Joe!
Illegals the cause? Democrats are the cause! They have and Always will find something to tax.

Exactly and while you’re there do your shopping at Woodmans
You’re right, the reason the state/city is broke is because of pensions. Not because of the rampant and notorious corruption by our politicians. Certainly not from decades of the state/city spending more than they bring in. Absolutely not from an overall fiscal irresponsibility of every Democrat politician in order to appease the sheep of this state/city. Can’t be the “IOU”s to the pension funds all those years. How come other states and cities have very well funded pension systems and didn’t collapse their economy? Including in some other blue areas. Of the 15 worst funded pension systems, 9 are in Illinois, and of course it includes CPD/CFD. LOTS of other states and municipalities have figured out how to have well funded pensions and functioning economies. Seems to be something very special about Illinois and even more so Chicago. Hmmmm. Can’t put my finger on it. Bahhhh, it’s the paramedics fault making $85,000/yr, what a piece of shit they are. Typical Democrat, it’s never the fault of the people you vote in. Maybe we shouldn’t have spent hundreds of millions of dollars we didn’t have on illegal immigrants, just one example. Keep making excuses for the corrupt politicians of this place, don’t worry, the next democrat will be the one to bring us to the promise land. Loser.
The 911 tax on your phone bill was $6.00 per line years ago. It is .20 cents per line in Arizona. Change your billing address to the burbs.
Welcome to socialist utopia where the solution to every problem is raise taxes.
Guido, the guy with the crooked nose, don’t charge no tax on bets made with him. Pay up day is Wednesday or Thursday. If you need some cash because you went too deep his brother Alfred will loan you some juice money for 25% a week.
I want my retro check. My flsa overtime lawsuit check would be nice too.
