- I suggest this every summer. Put in a par form for the day off without pay. There’s nothing they can do and the only downside is that they will add a day onto your retirement date. I only had to do that once in my career and they never messed with me again. if everybody on a watch, did it once they would find themselves in a real pickle. If you don’t take a stand, they will continue to ride roughshod over you. There is great power in unity.
There are a few rumors of a concerted effort to either use this or a Medical Roll call-in, possibly for an undetermined upper respiratory ailment that is supposedly sweeping through China and spreading across the globe. No one wants a repeat of the global plan-demic after all.
The FOP can't advocate for anything like this, but now that we're not subject to any Rules, Regulations, Contract restrictions, General Orders, etc., we can see where this goes. Let us know.

No the Real Question is why are Homicide Teams exempt from Details??? I don’t understand this, they get 3 days off EVERY Weekend and are never assigned to work details… They are assigned to 4th Watch and Volunteered for their Assignment to Homicide. So Please someone tell me why they are exempt from being assigned to City Wide Details on their RDO’s???

Why would you have to put in A Par form for A Day Off without pay if it’s your RDO?? I don’t understand this reasoning? What happens if you just Don’t show up cause it’s your RDO??

The commenter isn’t too smart.. you can’t use this on an RDO. You can only use it on a regular working day. The PAR is for a day off without pay. Your RDO is not paid, it’s overtime, forced at time and a half. That PAR request does not apply to RDOs. This guys story is prob crap. Or he did it once on a regular working day. Either way, the guy sounds like a mutt, not a genius. Kids, tuition, vacations, mortgages… this is why I have a job, to pay for all that stuff to make sure I can provide for my wife and kids.. not to sit at home like a simp..
It’s been awful for about 10 years (maybe a smidge more). Some officers nearing retirement may remember when it was only the district tact/gang & specialized units working their scheduled days sent out to cover festivals, Pride, Taste, and occasional world view events. It’s good for the wallet but horrible for a life outside the job.
Larritorious and yo-yo. I’ll help you. Bring in the platoons from the DNC. 12 hr days. All 3rd watch downtown. Detectives at the districts for mass arrests. All PRT/house mouses/academy morons to downtown. Get your feet out in front of you before this goes bad.

I use to work with an Officer who was well off from old family money. He would party on his weekends off, but not come to work on Mondays. He would call in to have him carried day without pay. When he retired he had over 20 of these days. But never knew they tacked them on in the end?
I know it works because I worked doing the A&A sheets.
So, we have to request a day-off-without-pay on our day off when our day off is cancelled? I can see this but how could they ask to extend the retirement date when the cancelled-day-off is OT?

We are the only city department and union that doesn’t get double time for working outside of your normal work week/schedule. This seems like an easy no brainer, win during negotiation. Why we still don’t t have this sure is a mystery.

Kinda put my Sgt in the truck bag, but they cancelled our days off, I cancelled our days off, and then cancelled them again. It made absolutely so sense.
But I said I won’t be coming to work, the department can do what they want.
I didn’t show up, and never heard a peep.

I used to not show up all the time when the dept was doing those cancelled days off forcing coppers to meet at 35/Michigan. It was my RDO so do what you wanted with discipline, I didn’t care. Never heard anything.
If u don’t show up for a cancelled day off you get SPARd and AWOPd. I know this first hand. If it’s something worth it to you that you’ve had planned, then let them AWOP and spar you. This department can F off. So tired of this shit.
Sure do remember that. I'm one of those a few months away from retirement and will not be subject to cancelled RDO or anything else this crap department throws my way. I'll be taking care of all my body aches this summer and ride it straight into retirement. Screw this department and city.

Didn't catch many suspension days during my time on but ya better check with HR and tack on those days onto your retirement day. My seniority date was June 16 86. I extended retirement til August. If you don't make those days they can fuck you out of your 29 and a day benefits. Don't give em shit. And oh yes, I was called in to pee EVERY MONTH FOR MY LAST THREE MONTHS.

Ironically the Detectives on those teams are really bad. There's usually 2 or 3 solid Detectives and the rest are there for the ride. Its a scam spot.
I’ve done it as well. They did noting to me. It would be very easy to see if anyone below you in seniority was allowed to keep their RDO. Enough said l.

How many of you realize what you get in the long term from this job? A pension which you have no idea what it’s worth. 3% every year. Try and pay your medical insurance. You have no idea what it’s worth. Most of you have never had a job before. Most of you have never been in z as real fight. I’m aware of the lack of leadership in the department. But all this crying sniveling bullshit you people throw out there is pretty fucking pathetic. Yes I know it sucks. But where the fuck g else are you going to get a Ck every 2 weeks and the benefits you get? Ahh never mind. It’s a different world.

Sorry, CPD is not known for its unity and every exempt and politician knows it. Therefore they will continue to get walked over until they retire. Years ago, coppers were asked not to not volunteer for VRI for 1 weekend as a message to hire more police. Some people didn’t and others swooped right in for the OT. It’s pathetic.
Waiting around for others to be who you want is never gonna get you ahead.
If a copper is proactive, it's because it's who he chooses to be, because that's who HE is. Yeah, some/most might get jammed up and you'll be the first to say "told you so," but, they did it their way, and you're still gonna be unhappy.
Telling cops to stop being proactive doesn’t hurt the brass or city leaders. Brass will always be around, whether they’re sitting behind a desk or cashing out in retirement. The ones who really pay the price are us and our neighbors. We're not sticking it to city "leaders," we’re punishing ourselves. That may work for you, but that doesn't make it a plan.
Most of the people who call in sick or hit the medical when RDO’s are cancelled are those I wouldn’t want around when the shit hits the fan anyways…stay home
