Interesting Application of the Law
Remember on 10 June, that red Kia that disobeyed police and ended up driving through a protest? The media wasted no time claiming the driver "plowed through" the crowd, in spite of all sorts of video that didn't show anyone hit nor bodies flying through the air the way we've seen in assorted terror attacks across Europe.
Here's the Slum Times just yesterday:
A woman who allegedly drove into a crowd of protesters with her kids in the car this month in the Loop and injuring a 66-year-old has been arrested and is facing charges.
Deirdre Kemp, 30, surrendered to police Thursday and is accused of plowing through thousands of protesters June 10 near State and Monroe streets, Chicago police said.
Loaded language throughout the article. But if you bother to read down a few extra paragraphs, you find this:
One officer tried to get Kemp to stop and pulled on her driver’s-side door handle, but authorities say Kemp sped off.
Another officer continued chasing after Kemp but lost his balance and ran into 66-year-old Heather Blair, who suffered a broken arm. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition and released the same day.
So the Officer ran into the senior citizen and caused her to fall and break her arm?
Fine, glad to see the driver got charged for her illegal actions that caused someone else harm.
But that sounds like the "felony murder" rule, just on a smaller scale. Something that was discontinued with the SAFE-T Act regarding homicides and other violent crimes, but now being used over a hit-and-run?
Things that make you go, "Hmmmm."

Be berry berry careful with the word, Hmmmm, as you may likely attract the tender mercies of a certain well known bandito of the besos.
Sounds like the car and cop were reasonably where they were supposed to be. If the 66 yoa was not in a crosswalk, not so much. I've never seen protests as an exemption to the IVC pertaining to the law for pedestrians on a roadway.
Moral of the story is do not protest in the roadway!
I will NEVER feel bad for protesters in the freaking road that get run over!
It’s surprising that this doesn’t occur more often when these protesters block the street.
Hmmmm..."Judge John Hock ordered Kemp’s detention," But shoot somebody and you get an ankle monitor. SMH
My brothers and sisters, leave her alone.
Thousands marched and blocked the streets, an illegal act which none were arrested.
Let these motorists drive through and let the rioters whine. A fee broken bones will teach them not to take the streets again, no matter how much they are getting paid.
I just saw the mugshot of the lady responsible for this dilemma. Figures that the Slum Times would not publicly hold her responsible for this dilemma. Had this fine citizen run over dozens of protesters, that newspaper would’ve placed the blame on the Kia, not its driver.
Shouldn't the person paying for the protest pay for the hospital bill. I don't blame the driver for wanting to get out of the crowd.
So the mob can take over streets and you do nothing because the political masters, who you hack on here all the time, tell you no. Meanwhile the average person has to sit in their vehicle trapped by the mob. Oh well...screw the average person who is following the law and just trying to go home.
If she was on the West Side at 3 in the morning shooting knuckleheads standing on the corner she would be out already..
Typical.
"plowing through thousands" I didn't realize you could fit thousand of hippies in the street north of the Palmer House. This is the kind of objective journalism you get in the Sun Times.
Did you see the driver's picture? She'll get off with a warning and the old white progressive lady who fell will probably beg forgiveness for oppressing the driver.
She hit and run in Kane county last month.
