Tax Increases Inbound

From a friend (click for larger version):

And if that wasn't bad enough, there's a bill in Springfield that is purportedly going to cost the average family in Illinois an EXTRA $3,700 per vehicle, per year in "road usage fees:"

  • IL SB1938 is still alive and could come up for vote in October. If passed it could tax you up to 30 cents per mile driven. Avg. $3,750 per IL household annually!

As far as we can tell, this is starting out as a "pilot program" to see how easily Illinois lawmakers can steal more money from everyone. They claim it is a possible replacement for the gas tax, but when has Illinois ever revoked an existing tax? We'll give you a hint - never.

The text of the Bill can be read here.

Next up, registering all of our cars somewhere else.

Yeah, you might as well read it. Our "representatives" won't have time to since they'll probably have to pass this in the middle of the night too.

What happened to the $1.50 delivery tax for every package from Amazon, ups, fedex, mail pills, pizza, beef sandwich, etc, etc, etc.

I can't say its getting ridiculous because we pay tax on unrealized gains through property taxes. Any new way they come up with to swindle more money doesn't surprise me at this point.

These greedy, corrupt cities and states always make me think of the Beatles song, Taxman. Take a look at the lyrics. https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/beatles/taxman.html

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet

I'm surprised they haven't tried that yet, road tax for your feet. Great idea for old Conehead. New jobs for the hoodrats, just give them a fancy uniform, in say purple, and a ticket book. They can patrol the sidewalks of downtown and all the neighborhoods. If you ain't paid da road tax for yur feet, you get da ticket.

Or perhaps an air tax in Chicago would work. An annual tax just to breathe that sweet Shitcago air.

30 cents per mile? What about those who live in rural areas who have to drive upwards of 50 miles to work each day? 100 miles round trip would be 150 dollars per week.

Made it through about the first third of the text. This is NOT representative government in IL. Interesting snippet tucked in there is that the extra bureaucrats added for this are not to be held liable for failure to prevent crime or apprehend criminals on public transit. Why was that necessary to include?

What good has come out of Springfield in my lifetime? How much was spent to craft this self-licking lollipop of a bill? I write software and this sits right up there with horrendous spaghetti code, the kind that comes from bad engineering or people (out-of-towners) who nefariously set it up for job security.

Government workers are the biggest welfare cheats in society. They do nothing of productive value. They contribute nothing of value. Before some government employee says we pay taxes too. I say you're paying pennies and getting back 1-2 million dollars in salary, sick time, IOD, and a pension.

So, if passed that road usage fee would be taxing gasoline vehicles that already pay a gasoline tax that funds the roads. Double taxation.

Become divided between Norridge and Elmwood Park for services? City service from Chicago is subpar. Even its alderman, the ex-fireman is useless.

Except contractors. They don’t get the benefits or the time off that a GS gets. Contractors also don’t have a union. Contractors are needed or the work will never get done.
If the American people had any idea how much the GS scum did, they would have an actual reason to protest.
It isn’t just the salaries and time off. The real shit sandwich is that every single one of them have a budget that only goes up and the travel costs so they can fly to Vegas for yearly conferences that could be done online.

If the per-mile tax only applied to electric vehicles, I'd absolutely support it.
EVs cause far more damage than gas cars but pay nothing to use the roads.
Of course, no one here is naive enough to think they won't apply it to EVERY vehicle.
BTW - Do you realize that, if your car gets 20mpg, this would effectively be a gas tax of $6.00/gallon? 30mpg = $9.00/gallon.
The more efficient your car, the higher the tax.

I am willing to pay the usage fees as long as the granola eating EV drivers have to pay it too. It grinds my gears that in addition to all the handouts and giveaways they get for buying the effing things, they get out of paying taxes too. As long as gasoline taxes are in effect, triple the fee for EV's. JB the Hutt needs his money!
