Larritorious the PreCog

Chicago is going to get sued into oblivion:

  • Chicago police Supt. Larry Snelling on Wednesday said he wants a power that Mayor Brandon Johnson doesn’t want to give him: authority to declare three-hour-long “snap curfews” anywhere in the city with just 30 minutes’ notice.

“What that curfew would be used for is deterrence. We would like to have something like that in advance when we know that there’s the possibility of a gathering that’s going to lead to violence in a particular area that has a history” of it, Snelling told the Sun-Times.

“This would give us plenty of time to put out notice to everyone involved that teenagers are going to converge on this area if we don’t stop it ahead of time and it could lead to violence.”

The movie that comes to mind is Minority Report where "pre-cogs" (clairvoyant humans) can see homicides before they occur and send out a "Pre-crime" task force to arrest would be perpetrators before the murder is actually committed.

Larritorious wants the power to "deter" crime before it has actually happened by restricting any number of Civil Rights, which the ACLU is going to have a field day with. We're talking tens of millions of dollars, perhaps even hundreds.

Tactically speaking, this is a no-brainer. All authoritarians want the ability to intimidate, arrest and hold their opponents for even thinking about crime. From the standpoint of a Constitutional Republic with a broad interpretation of First Amendment Rights, it's the first step on a slippery slope.

The simplest solution is to arrest, prosecute and imprison people (and folks) for the crimes they actually commit....you know, like we used to. Like all successful societies do to those who refuse to abide by the laws passed. Commit a crime, do the time. Reap what you sow. Actions and consequences.

It's amusing that fascism is always supposed to be materializing on the Right, but never fails to appear on the Left.

No sane copper is going to enforce a curfew during these teen trends anyway. A complete waste of time.

Happy D Day. God bless those who made the ultimate sacrifice on this day 81 years ago. Know it doesn't ever get any recognition during pride month.

Put Larry in a beat car and have him answer calls. The reason he was in the academy as a gym instructor is because he was unable to respond to calls constitutionally.

"Snap Curfews" is the dumbest police strategy I've heard of in 27 years on. Not to mention the question of its Constitutionality, how about its potential to be abused by despots, autocrats, democrays, and tyrants? You are Democrat in power? You don't like an opponent? Call a snap curfew and lock him up. Change laws to be retroactive and sue him. Sent federal attorneys down to the state level and prosecute..... yeah, that could never happen....

Oooooh Wilbur

East Germany's secret police (Stasi) used selective curfews to create an environment of fear and compliance. Selective curfews in Chicago would serve to further condition law-abiding citizens to submit to totalitarian requests, and align with current day CCP policing standards. And, maybe that's the objective.

there is a deterrent already there but the dems and the libs and all those fake rev-runs do not want the police to use it,,,, it is called the laws already on the books,,,,, let the police arrest the offenders committing the crimes regardless of what their race is

Curfew? that's a rich white suburban word.
Folks don't know it's meaning (especially if they went to Chicago Public School).
When was the last time a curfew was announced and then enforced?
Has anyone here arrested a curfew violator? Seen one prosecuted, convicted and punished?
Curfew is a meaningless word politicians use, like racist and nazi.

I’m almost certain Yo-Yo gave him that idea. He’s just foolish enough to make the request.

Sounds like the progressive thinking areas downtown are becoming “fatigued”with these “teen” takeovers and are willing to use the police to violate their civil rights to make the issues disappear.

Maybe we can send the gold star commanders and above to the houses of these “teens” and beg their mothers to make them behave? Or maybe we can pay them to behave? Lol. Oh that’s right, we’ve tried both of those before and I guess now we are seeing how that didn’t work out too well did it?

Supe doesn’t need anymore power. He needs to use the power he has to clean his command staff up.

Last time announced and enforced? How about 2020-21-22? A mandatory state-wide shut down (synonymous to "a curfew").

This guy was a gym teacher that couldn’t pass a simple promotional exam. Yet we’re now to believe that he can somehow create a policy navigating murky waters in regards to civil rights?

Hey Supe, you’re not smart enough to understand this, so let me break it down for you.
You’re about to cost the city a lot of money in lawsuits, and you’re going to trick-bag coppers under your command.

Have some nuts and enforce the laws you have. No need to create a new unconstitutional policy just because.

You obviously don’t know how the Command Staff works.
How many of them are actually the Supt’s picks?
I’m betting very few.
I’m betting that there’s ones he wants to get rid of but can’t, there’s also some that he wants but can’t get.
Some alderscums pick, some rev-errr-rund pick, some other politicians pick.

The funny thing is, some of you actually think the Supt is in charge.

The guy wasn’t smart enough to ever pass a promotional exam, yet he thinks he’s smart enough to circumvent people’s constitutional rights? He’s not exactly a great legal mind. He’s not a great mind of any sort, if we’re being honest.
These snap curfews will cost taxpayer money in lawsuits down the road if used.

Look up Smart Cities. Coming soon in our life time.
It’s amazing. Policing in a city where those in charge have to pretend not to be aware of who and what the problem is. Having to play The Emperor Is Not Wearing Clothes. Having to come up with useless strategies all to avoid confronting the real issue.

Doesn’t work that way. Can’t believe the 1st deputy was Snelling’s pick. No fing way
