This Just Looks Bad
A Chicago Park District lifeguard who killed one teenager and badly injured another at the Douglass Park swimming pool on Thursday also tried to shoot a third teenage boy, but missed, prosecutors said Sunday.
The revelation came during a detention hearing for Charles Leto, the 55-year-old concealed carry holder now charged with multiple felonies, including first-degree murder.
The usual suspects are leaping to conclusions before any evidence has been presented aside from the bail hearing, and that is rarely ever the final word.

Just because he’s a CC holder doesn’t make him automatically right. The two criminals screwing with him and trying to take his bike should be held accountable.. but shooting and killing them? Sure, we can think they got what they deserved for playing stupid games.. but you and I all know the law.. can’t do that. Murder was the right charge.

Defending yourself from strong armed robbers is now murder? Not even mistake of fact manslaughter? Three criminals approach an elderly man and we presume threaten him. Before he used his gun should he have allowed them to beat him, maybe smash his head on the sidewalk? Look at the video! Do you think they approached him from different directions because wanted lend him a wrench? These were robbers who deserved what they got. A guy can’t even stop to put the chain back on the back on the sprocket without being victimized by these roaming gangs of thugs always on the lookout for a weak victim. Hope someone starts a Go Fund Me for this poor guy.
2 years at outdoor pool, 6 years at the beach, did all the special events downtown and was sent to outdoor pools when there were troublemakers causing problems, all this lifeguarding was decades ago but this guy leaves me with a big WTF. Google search shows Linked in page as a trader and he apparently used to be at Gill Park. If he was a year round guy Gill park would be a winter gig and he would probably be at a beach in the summer. If seasonal and went from Gill to Douglass someone really didn't like him. He lives in Lakeview, long bike ride to Douglass Park. Even if he was just a scrub and not connected sending a 55yo white guy to Douglass Park was a way to get rid of a problem somewhere else. Guy was an outcast.
The year before I started guarding at a South side beach the guards were wearing pith hats as the natives were throwing rocks at them. I fear for all the guards citywide now as I believe bullets have largely replaced rocks

One of the victims was a cousin of, ready, Laquan McDonald. These yutes were attempting to rob the lifeguard of his bicycle. They had been threatening that they were going to kill him all day. They approached and stated that they would kill him if he didn’t give the bike up. As one of the yutes began pulling on the bike as the others began to strike him he fired multiple rounds eliminating the threat. Give him a medal.
The use to hang horse thieves. Modern day horse thieves get shot. OK by me.

The release of the video to the press and for the press to play a snippet is prejudicial! It’s questionable whether it was justified or not, but I see three youths one grabbing towards his waste as if he had a gun. And the other two in looking possibly to jump him!
The marine who has never been arrested or charged with any crime ever! I would believe the marine over the 14 year old who formed in a triangle around him. Looked like a robbery or they were going to jump him! This should go to trial and it’s manslaughter I think he had a reasonable belief his life may have been in danger?
If he didn’t it’s manslaughter! Not murder! I do think bc he is white and the victims black there’s a narrative on this one that it was unjustified.
How’s about we wait for trial and why is he detained and no bond with a self defense claim?
Yep when I was guarding we were all HS or in college and tended to spend a lot of off work time together, they were largely your summer friends. We occasionally had connected people or people involved with stock trading, and they were all older. Some of them couldn't even swim lol. Some of them tried to hang with us, some of them did their hours and were gone. We looked at all of them as weirdos, none of them were close to 55. This guy had issues.
Park District should not be liable , the lifeguard was off duty on his way home .
He would have been a possible victim of robbery or agg battery if he wasn't armed . tried by 12 or carried by 6 .

In the full video, it appears that the 2nd kid who was shot and fell to the grass had a gun in his left hand. You can't see it as well in shorter video that cuts out before the shooting. You can see it better in the longer video. I heard the back pack the 1st one was carrying was not recovered. Also heard he had a ski mask on. Hope there is clearer video out there.
And we all know how much they like kicking their victims in the head.

He got transferred out of Gill for anger issues. He caught a pass for shooting a lady’s unleashed pet dogs in Lakeview. So a little trigger-happy, but video may justify it. 🤷♂️
Unleashed dogs as big as they shouldn’t be unleashed when a big dog rushes to you and it’s not your dog how do you know it won’t bite you or have rabies. An unleashed dog can bite you! It’s sad that the dog was shot but the owner who wasn’t minding her dogs who got out is totally responsible. The consequences were foreseeable imo. It’s not like this man knew if the dogs were dangerous and were little dogs. And I am a dog lover! Animal lover but it’s also prejudicial as he wasn’t charged and had a reasonable fear. That doesn’t make anyone trigger happy and if a big dog unleashed ran up to me (I have a CCL) I would likely open fire too. The owner is a moron!

Not at all surprised, that all Chicago news outlets are left leaning to skew the narrative, and the lifeguard has already been tried and convicted. He's surely going to fight an uphill race fueled battle.

I wouldn't take any public service job for $100K/yr plus in any of these crap cities like Chicago, and you couldn't pay me $400K a year to be a Chicago Police Officer, because all the money in the world won't save your well being, or life.
Not sure where this will show up in the thread but about the "lady" whose dogs were shot by this guy. She is a raging lunatic alcoholic and pill popper. Lives a lavish lifestyle with a rich hubby. They are very well known to the cops who are getting in the middle of their constant domestic disputes in front of their suicidal kids. Rich white trash, wish CPD could have put HER in the system when her dogs were shot.
