Best Rant Ever

We didn't know he was still alive:

We were still in high school when Lee Elia let loose with this one, and we heard the censored version for years on the Dahl and Meier radio show opening. He played for both the Cubs and the Sox, but he probably picked up most of his salty attitude in Philadelphia

Without a doubt, one of the greatest rants ever

We lost a real character with the passing of Elia.

Thanks to Les Grobstein for this nugget. Dahl and Meier playing the censored version had me howling as a high-schooler. I remember digging up the uncensored version after it was reported that AJ Pierzynski used it for his pregame psych up routine.

“The name of the game is hit the ball, catch the ball, and get the fkn job done.”

“”…AND PRINT IT!!!”

He's absolutely right about the lazy asses who dont work but attend games while the rest of us have to work for a living. The ONLY reason fans go to Cubs games is because its nothing but a fucking drink fest for 9 innings or 2 1/2 hrs.

A die hard Cubs fan is a thing of the past, my grandmother never missed a game on channel 9, everyday win or lose. Now it's just a big party (and that's OK) but none of these fans could give you any stats. Grandma could give you stats and even go back a few years.

That ranks right up there with R Lee Ermey in 'Full Metal Jacket.'
The only thing Elia left out was the fact that the umpire didn't have the common courtesy for a "reach-around" to the Cubs catcher. Semper Fi.

My grandfather was a die-hard Cubs fan who worked in a steel mill. I'm sure even he would have been shocked to hear the uncensored version of that epic rant. But he also bemoaned his Loveable Losers, never seeing the day the Cubs took the World Series and broke their losing streak. And he even stepped foot in Old Comisky Park to watch a few Sox games, but kept his Cub loyalty until his end. RIP Grandpa R.
