Stolen Gun Lawsuit

The depositions for this one are going to be interesting....if they ever see the light of day that is:

  • A woman who was shot with a Glock handgun that had been stolen from a South Side police station and then was used in a series of violent crimes has sued the city of Chicago, saying the gun was taken by police, and the theft was covered up.

Twanda Willingham was shot in her right thigh early last Aug. 14 as she was parking near her home in Auburn Gresham, according to police records and the lawsuit, which was filed this week in Cook County circuit court.

The .45-caliber Glock 21 had been turned in at a police gun buyback at St. Sabina Church on Dec. 2, 2023. It was then taken to the tactical team office at the Gresham District station.

“CPD Officers are also not immune to the allure of Glock pistols,” the lawsuit says. “CPD Officers assigned to work the Turn-In event at St. Sabina remarked on how good the Glock 21 pistol looked. CPD Officers who were not working the buyback event at St. Sabina showed up at the tactical team office to get a look at the Glock 21 pistol.”

The witness list is going to be extensive, and not only because of the paper trail.

Was Yoyo was still in charge of IAD when this was swept under the rug "investigated"?

This is what happens when supervisors are not doing their job. All of the department get a black eye when someone drops the ball.

I only hope that this sorted criminal conspiracy and investigation is a learning lesson to other coppers to not contemplate stealing and turning around and selling the stolen item(s) to gangbangers. No good can come of it. Unfortunately there will be a copper, in the future, who fails to read the memo.

Ah the allure of a fine handgun
Many a morning I’ve found myself stripped alongside a Glock similarly field stripped.
The unmistakeable smell of Hoppes permeating the room
Neither of us really sure how we got there
We would quickly reassemble ourselves and slink out never to admit the attraction
I am ashamed

You sure that wasn't a sting operation and the officer that stole it turned out to be connected? Maybe a yo-yo crony?

Still never found out how the gangbanger shot dead by Cicero Police some years back had a gun from a St. Sabina gun turn in. Seems a lot of guns turned in there get a second life.

This nonsense, concocted by the usual concocktors of nonsense, was spawned from the wet dreams of the guilty, aka get rid of that murder weapon as cleanly as the filthy concocktors can provide the means to.

Thus, the slipping in to these 'turn ins' of observably modern weapons, some to many both stained with past murderous usages and still attractively designed pieces of modern engineering qualities.

Precisely the intent of the concocktors of this feckless activity, aka, politicians.

I have never been to one of these " buybacks", but I suspect the entire process is flawed, how the weapons are inventoried, stored and secured. I hope they are not just tossing them into a cardboard or plastic box ? One person needs to be responsible for securing the container.

I have believed that those gun buyback events are illegal. Taking in a firearm in exchange for consideration (gift cards) is being in the trade and requires an FFL and the filing of a 4473. The ATF under the Buydumb administration was prosecuting people who bought a gun for a certain amount of money and sold it years later for more due to inflation as being commercial operations.

Ever notice that the most useless exempts are put into iad bureau. As chief she literally has nothing she needs to do. Perfect for DEI picks.

You must not be a cop.
The only coppers that would be contemplating the criminal actions of theft and selling to shitheads would be shithead coppers that got hired after the standards weee obliterated, which I believe are still in the minority in this dept.

We still have more decent law abiding coppers on this job which came on for the right reasons. The criminal element may be a growing faction of the dept but still is the exception.

Been around guns all my life. Don't really need to see any off the streets. Rather stay away as far as possible when others are inventorying firearms. Seen officers take accessories off weapons.

Question: After a long night, how many “ Rounds” have you “ Fired” and how many “ Rounds” remain in the “ Magazine”?

talk about hitting the ghetto lottery,,,, that's better than getting hit by the cta bus
99% of the officers involved are in the protected class so nothing will happen, and the liberal news will not talk about it

Supervisors verify the contents of the inventory and approve it by signature and signing the bag, provided the weapon makes it to inventory. Therein lies the problem.

A veteran officer (someone not prone to spreading rumors or gossip) once told me he heard that for the 1st gun turn in at St. Sabina (ca 2007) busses were hired to transport church ladies to the event, and upon arrival they lined up and retrieved handguns from their purses which were turned in for a gift card. The kicker is, the guns came from CPD inventory, and had been distributed to the ladies by members of SOS. Apparently this was staged for the media to show a large turnout where citizens willingly turned in their firearms.

What a ghetto department. For years there's been an urban myth within the Far-Left BLM types that police are the ones responsible for the proliferation of firearms on Chicago's streets ("There's no gun stores in Englewood" and all that). Now some DEI hire on a Tac team just accelerated the conspiracy theories.

Yet another scheme, coated in fake virtue, concocted by politicians.
