Whitley Wants to Hide

This probably shouldn't be allowed to happen, but it's Cook County so she'll probably be granted it:

  • The woman found not guilty by reason of insanity after running over a Chicago police officer with his own squad car is now asking the court to let her start anew—by changing her name.

Whitley Temple, who was acquitted last year of attempting to murder Officer Ed Poppish during a bizarre 2022 West Side encounter, filed a petition on July 11 to legally change her first name to “Michelle,” according to Cook County court records.

Temple, 36, was accused of violently carjacking Poppish’s squad car in the 4400 block of West Jackson after he stopped to help her. Poppish said he found Temple partially undressed and lying in the street as he responded to a shots fired call.

She ran over the Officer with the squad car and fled the scene at over 90 MPH before crashing into numerous cars.

Then she went to trial....and was found to be insane while the judge accused CPD Officers of emailing her anonymous threats and doxxing her address. Funnily enough, not a single CR number was generated and ZERO complaints were filed with the Cook County Sheriffs' Office....you know, the people in charge of protecting and investigating threats against judges. Nothing at all.

And during the trial - or "trial" if you prefer - it was discovered Whitley had somehow been hired as "a lead accountant for the City of Chicago’s Department of Family and Support Services" while on bond for an Attempted Murder charge. Over $85K in salary while high on crack cocaine, stealing city property and attempting to murder a Police Officer.

Turns out she did campaign work for Cook County Board president Prickwrinkle, so there's the political connection. She'll be granted her name change in an attempt to conceal her criminal drug-addicted past. There's not much anyone can do about it besides spreading the work by linking the CWB story and anything you can find in our archives - that way, both her names are always connected somewhere before she disappears into the City or County payrolls again.

Being a street copper is the only place where you need common sense and when you have come to your senses that you took this job with the possibility of taking someone's life and not the other way around. As a young officer with 5 years on the job I'll work with different people when my partner was not there and many of them would say that they were conscious with the FACT that they may get killed on the streets one day. I would immediately tell them that they were stupid and should not be the police. Some really believed that and adviced them to quit and it would be the last day I worked with them. You always have to think of the WHAT-IFS each minute you wear that uniform. These city, the FKN police department and many of the people you work with don't give a FUCK about you, believe me. I've witnessed that with my 25 years on and glad I'm retired.

I read your blog daily and somehow, the city, governor, mayor, CTA, NPR-Times all seem to outdo themselves daily. This Chicago-Illinois is very, very different from just 5, 10 years ago. You cannot make this stuff up!

I thought the legislature abolished 'Not guilty by reason of insanity' decades ago and replaced it with 'Guilty but mentally ill".
Allowed the offender to be locked up...just in a nuthouse instead of prison.
Of course, once they shut down all the asylums, they probably changed it back.

I hope that he can sue her for all she may be worth. Illinois law lets you garner a settlement if she had no insurance. Either way, she leeds to be left destitute and broke. Poor decisions must have consequences.

The funny part of the name change petition filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County, County Division is that the petitioner Ms. Temple filed a 298 Waiver of Filing Fees petition a/k/a "A Pauper Suite." She used her state ID card and her SNAP card for identification purposes.

OT: judge in the Vasquez-Lasso murder trial allows motion for the jury to consider second degree murder on the basis of self defense. Because this mutt claims he was afraid of police because he was stopped by police his whole life. Goodbye, I’m done. If this jury finds anything less then Murder 1, then you’re an idiot if you do anything, at all. If it’s not completely obvious this state and city hate you then I don’t know what is.

Hate to disagree about common sense, because it is lacking in the supervisors positions all the way to the top (mayor), is the reason the department is a failure. If they did have common sense, every event would be handled with expertise, and it never does. No preparation, actual training and no mission is presented with any continuity. As a result, officers are injured or killed.

As for your claim prior to being sworn in, one of the key questions that is never asked: "Do you think, under certain circumstances, that you would be able to take another's life?" You must answer yes! If not, find another job.

As for you telling officer they were stupid and to get off the job if they weren't conscious of the possibility of being killed. One must be aware, not impeded by the thought, that there are people out there that want to hurt or even kill you. It keeps one aware of their surroundings and situation. (self-preservation). I had been involved in several shootings over the years (28) and luckily made the correct decisions to either shoot or not shoot. Each time one must react without hesitation. Of course, I'm one of those old timers from a different world when you could be the police.
