Rank order promotions from forty UP to forty-two.
No idea what's going on there.

However there are positions in the detective division that are created for dummies like you such as SVU, Criminal Registry, DNA, ATC, Administration, answering the phone, crime gun intelligence center. I just wanted to remind you that these positions were for older detectives who are close to retirement or detectives that are on limited duty but your selfish dumb privileged ass will take these spots.

The merit promotions are down two and rank are up two…those are two guys/gals that had the test answers given to them (if I had to guess I’d put money on more than two). They have to spread around the merit picks to all these obscure Gold Stars, Directors, etc- so it’s not just the same names as the nominator. In reality, more than half the time those nominating are told who to nominate.

You are a meathead and you don't even try to hide it. Detectives don't "do shit for bosses". Detectives do "shit" for victims and it may surprise You that We and our families become victims too. A good detective will work on a case when there is a good victim involved. Maybe try to understand what Detectives do before you say something really dumb.
There are people who score decent on the exam but want to rush their promotion and take a merit spot instead of waiting their turn. Just like people who get multiple bites of the merit apple and make a phone call to get a good spot instead of letting the chips fall where the may. . Just taking advantage of their entitlement.

We got a bunch of new detectives around 2010 and a lot of them asked to go to SVU...The ones that went to VC never bothered to talk with the rest of us other low lifes. Thanks for the seniority! I got summer furlo's every year since then!

A class of 50 detectives? That's 10 per area, divided by three watches. 2-3 being RDO everyday. Several will be detectives for about 6 weeks until they make sergeants then those detectives will brag that they were detectives for the rest of their careers as supervisors.

I’m sorry to inform you that the standards have been lowered now, because neither of the Area Detective Commanders were great detectives. A few had administrative assignments and the others were never detectives and neither have ever presented a case to the Felony Review.
Check out the CPD podcast. Think they had a sgt with almost 40 years OTJ being interviewed. You know how you stay on for that long? Don't work in patrol and work somewhere hidden where you rarely deal with the stuff everyone else deals with. Better yet be at 193 and work basically wires where you never out in the open like others. Nobody who works patrol as a PO, Sgt or Lt will rarely ever stay on near 40 years. Too much exposure to the nonsense. Not worth it. If you're a house mouse or connected to be in a hidden spot then you can work 50 years OTJ. Try working 1st watch in patrol or humping a beat car for 20 plus and see how Long you last. The sgt and Hein are big time boozing buddies so of course Heiny decided to use Sgt MN for a podcast. Similar to democrats being interviewed by CNN. I'm guessing they had the interview in a tavern somewhere close to home and familiar to both.

ATC I would say are the opposite of dummies. Are they always helpful depending on your area and case load? No, not always, but dummies? Not most of them. Take DVRs back to the area and rip all the data off the hard drives, dump phones, pull infotainment centers out of vehicles and process them, process cell tower data. They mainly assist us in homicides, that’s their main function. And they’re tremendous at it. Quite a few high level tech guys in those offices with lots of federal training. Get friendly with them, they can be quite helpful, at work and with tech issues at home.
Don't dis SVU.... it's easy to look at a beat-up or dead gangster, try looking at a kid with 30 lashes from an extension cord when the kid isn't verbal and family members try to protect the offender.
Just like anywhere on the job, the D-unit is filled with both lazy and outstanding detectives. There are VC and RBT dicks who suspend the majority of their cases and others who solve cases with arrests and lengthy sentences. Some SVU dicks do very good work too, they just don't get the notoriety and glory that VC gets.
You don't see many TV detective shows dealing with kids who are whipped, burned, drowned, or raped, but we have detectives who do those cases daily and do them well.

Advice for you new detectives. If you have a question on anything, don't ask a supervisor. Find a good detective.

I, and quite a few good policemen got screwed out the detective promotion when the large group was made in 1998. We wound up youth officers instead compliments of the merit promotees who passed us over from thousands of rank order spots behind us. We were still D-2 and could clear cases, unlike gang specialists. Had a great boss at A/4, but shitty school marm’ sergeants in the Y/D. Made plenty of money, plenty of freedom and my two-year-old victim with anal fissures, gonorrhea and a fractured skull never shot, stabbed or robbed anyone. Wouldn’t trade that experience for anything.
