Illegal Hired as Police?
We worked with probably a dozen or more Officers who were not citizens....or we should say "not YET citizens." They were going through the process, had applied for citizenship, were preparing to take the test and oath. Some were military guys, others weren't. But all were LEGAL.
We have a lot of questions with this one:
A Hanover Park police officer accused of living in the U.S. illegally has been arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement as part of a federal crackdown targeting sanctuary cities like Chicago.
However, the Hanover Park Police Department said Officer Radule Bojovic was hired "in full compliance with federal and state law" and was legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of his employment, according to a statement released Thursday.
He was here on a TOURIST visa and overstayed, thereby becoming ILLEGAL. We know actual immigrants whio have applied for citizenship can apply for work visas and legally procure employment, but TOURISTS by definition are headed back to their home country at some point - it's a temporary admission so that you can go see the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone or something. It's not a permanent invitation to stay.
The TOURIST visa expired back in 2015. And if we're reading the article correctly, he graduated the Academy in August 2025, meaning he was here ILLEGALLY for ten years and still got hired, processed, and through a Police Academy.
And somehow, he got a gun, which we're told is impossible for ILLEGALS, let alone someone on a ten-year-expired-TOURIST visa.
Something is badly broken.

He attempted to purchase a firearm AFTER graduating from the training academy. Gun store ran background check and his name was flagged.
Question is, whose firearm did he use to pass the shooting qualification portion of the Academy training?

How many CPD officers does this apply to, that are not here legally? I would imagine at least a few hundred. Certainly we don't mind patriotic ones who love USA and here legally, waiting to be take the Oath. But I am certain there are at least 100 or more that are here illegally like the Hanover guy. Will IAD hide them in callback, so ICE doesn't swoop them up. Come on Chief Bovino, we want you to root 'em out and discover the illegals in our ranks and take appropriate legal action....

Statement from the Village of Hanover Park regarding the arrest and detention of Hanover Park Police Officer Radule Bojovic
The Hanover Park Police Department hired Officer Bojovic in January 2025 in full compliance with federal and state law. Before hiring Officer Bojovic, the Village confirmed that he was legally authorized by the federal government to work in the United States. At the time of his hire, Officer Bojovic presented the Village with a Work Authorization Card, which was issued by the federal government's U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The card was valid and recently renewed. We also conducted a full background check, including his criminal history with both the Illinois State Police and the FBI.
The bottom line is that all information we received from the federal govemment indicated that Officer Bojovic is legally authorized to work in the United States as a police officer. Clearly, without that authorization, the Village would not have hired him. Additionally, the Village has not received any notice from any federal or state agency that his work authorization status has ever been revoked.
Further, the Village also confirmed, based on a memorandum issued by the Department of Justice's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives on January 5, 2024, that his immigration status allows him to carry a firearm while on duty.
Officer Radule Bojovic has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the immigration
proceedings he is now facing. If he is permitted to remain in the United States and remains legally authorized to work in this country, he will be returned to full duty status.

How can anyone swear an oath to the Constitution of the United States of America without being a citizen of the United States of America??? Wouldn't that impair and invalidate any arrest automatically? How can a non citizen legally arrest a citizen?

I hate to tell you this but being a citizen is not a requirement of being a police officer for the city of Chicago. 022 has or had one a female white officer who hated white cops. She didn’t have to pay U.S. taxes. A nice Irish girl she fit in perfectly in Beverly
It's a dangerous precedent when a non citizen is enforcing laws against citizens.
I don't know who is a citizen and who isn't, but on 1st watch zone 13 there was a female officer in 012. She would call out foot chases and traffic stops in Spanish when she got nervous. I don't care what anyone says, 1st watch always rocked !

HPPD did a poor job of a background check, if a gun shop background caught this & they didn't...

Employers are not allowed to judge validity beyond the face of the document. If a worker presents an unexpired, authentic-looking EAD, the employer must accept it under I-9 rules or risk discrimination penalties.
A recent EAD can exist even after a long-expired visa if: the person later applied for asylum, TPS, marriage-based adjustment, or deferred action; or USCIS mistakenly renewed or failed to revoke the card when their eligibility changed. In any case the officer should have known his visa had expired. Maybe he thought he was good because he was in Illinois?

This isn't the first. They recently caught an officer in Maine when he went to purchase a weapon. He was from Jamaica. This guy in Hanover Park could only carry a gun while he was on duty. It was left at the station. He did not purchase it.
Non-citizens have been able to be CPD for years. This just made it statewide law & smaller departments couldn’t discriminate. But yes, I think it’s bullshit.

Can guarantee you that there are current cpd cops out here that are illegal overstaying their visas. Yes im aware you don’t need to be a USA citizen to work in cpd. There’s lots of those, no issue with them. It’s not their fault they were allowed to be hired good for them. But…… The issue is some of them may be actually illegally here like Hanover dude…. All cop recruit's have to pass a full background check. The FBI gave their blessing.
