Medical Section News
Is this a big deal?
We avoided the Medical Section like it was the plague, especially on the way out the door. But we did hear horror stories and there have been hints here and there in the comment sections, especially when it concerned the CPD and CFD trying to force obviously unwell Officers and Firefighters back onto the street.
We're all for rooting out the scammers - but they never seemed to catch any of those.

Zero sympathy for a medical or disability scammers. Medical roll is not because you just want the day off. Scumbags, plain and simple.
Pantino Casino.
Roll the dice and see what lands.
She was awful. She refused to listen to other doctors, ones that were specialists. She's not qualified to be a prison doctor.
A Drs note is still the golden goose, especially if your doctor loves the police and has no issues writing a note giving you time off.
The first 25 years OTJ I rushed to get off the medical every time I had a medical issue, meanwhile we have dogs that have handicap placards putting on a show when they park with dollies for their bag and walking gingerly on ice. Come to think of it I was the idiot all these years and I'm riding the medical till retirement.
The CPD medical section needs to be shut down. I can’t stand the place. Treating everyone like jerks.
It’s a shame the paramedics have to go on the medical just to get some sort of relief being forced to work one on one off continuously to no end it’s sad but there are a lot of CFD scammers on the medical like clockwork we got it down to a science who in our district will go on medical literally to a science we can even predict the day they leave and when they return it’s always early June to be back by late September. Every time. Take nice summers off every single year and they always seem to have a lake house in Michigan or Wisconsin must be nice or is that coincidence.
Bend over and cough.
The we medical program is e-signed to scam taxpayers.
Concur
I work at HQ, I'm the one who commented on the Blog a few days ago, I did because I knew this was coming. As a civilian who sticks up for you officers, I was very disappointed to read the hate among you officers. There are officers who look normal, and they are far from it, like the saying goes "Don't judge the book by its cover".
Always was told paramedics worked a 1on 3 off schedule so 80 days or so a year.
I guess some of the commentators on the blog who are/were on disability were telling the truth of how they were getting screwed by the department and their doctor. I'm just a five-year rookie with many years to go hoping nothing life changing happens to me, but if it does, I want to make sure I don't get screwed like the way they are. It's sad to read how bitter some of our own comrades are regarding officers being on disability. But I bet any money that those would be the first crybabies to jump up trying to scam an injury. I'm trying to learn more about disability just to educate myself just like I do with general orders but there is very minimal information. I wonder why? Well, we all know why I should say.
I have no doubt you are a bitter person. I dog ass officer who complains about every little thing out there. I bet you still live in your mom's basement.
I bet you were the working police too until you had a reality check. I bet you were fucked by the department as well. Hey, I don't blame you, good for you. Let the haters hate. At the end of the day it's about me. me and only me. Fuck the rest. That's a lesson I learned working for CPD. I never mattered!!
Medical time should be like suspension time. You gotta make up those days for retirement purposes. Too many people spending years on the medical roll. Obviously IOD, and paternity leave wouldn't apply. But everything else should. For those of us that don't abuse it they should pay us out the 365 days when we retire. Medical abuse would drastically go down.
City doesn't care about you. You shouldn't have any guilt for using medical leave.
I didn’t use the medical for 18 years. When I did use the medical they made me jump through hoops. I noticed that other people went on the medical every summer and Christmas season. There were people who constantly used it because they couldn’t find a baby sitter. Nobody gave them a hard time.
Who has the real information?
Sounds like fun.
Dr. Patino was horrible and never available. CPD was obviously her second job or something to do when she felt like it. On the other hand she has a lot of information to hold over the department’s head, like when the BIA forces her to disclose members medical history to them.
Defund the medical section! Why do we need a doctor and nurses working there if all they do is shuffle paperwork and make skewed assumptions about your medical condition? Has anyone there ever taken your blood pressure, or taken your temperature? Or asked you how you feel?
Lets leave the health care to professionals who are actually concerned for the patients well being.
After about ten years OTJ, I learned that it was better to use medical time for injuries that were job related. I went to my doctor of choice, and didnt have to go and deal with the MSS and wait for a referral with some hack Dr. that was on the city's side.
I once received a letter from Ed Burkes office denying one of my my IOD's within three days of my injury. I was automatically switched to the medical rolls, and found out that I was way better off for it.
I wonder how many envelopes Burke collected during those three days... That was a wake up call. All of my health care would be handled this way from that day forward. I'm not a medical abuser, so there was always plenty of time to recoup from physical therapy etc...and being under the care of my personal doctor was a relief.
The MSS is a city scam...especialy when it comes to IOD injuries. Stay well
Working in the Medical services section is another city patronage scam...disband it! They are useless!
If ya can’t beat em, join em. You are probably a great neighbor too.
Retired now. But witnessed those summer medical “furlos” many times. Look into the maternity leave policy. 365 paid days off……classified as a DUTY injury. NO FEDERAL TAXES. No furlo time is used during the 365, AND, additional furlos are ACCRUED. Sooooooo, tack on ANOTHER 104 twenty-four hour platoon days off.
Retired here. We used to call the doctors the scammers used Dr. Summeroff” And for the snow bird scammers they saw “Dr. Winteroff” looks like those doctors are still around
Rubber Gloves Please!!.. X-large size.
Thank you, sir, may I have another?
If you’re the police and your doctor doesn’t love the police you need speak only two words to said asshole: You’re Fired
Top scammers in the city, streets and san then cpd unfortunately. The fire department loves their jobs not many on medical role other then over worked medics.
Stop it. These people can answer calls at the commanders office.
I agree many are bonfide mentals after being on this job for more than 10 years.
The Whole System within Chicago is corrupt… BIA, EAP, City Council, Merit Promotions, Testing… List goes on and on…. 🤫
OEMC has their share of medical scammers and abusers. Practically all on the police operations side, tho. Guess why that is.
It’s the job.
All sworn members at the medical section should be thrown back on the street. especially detectives. You’ve been scamming for too long.
There’s a light duty detective at the medical section getting more extended tour overtime than patrol officers. She came off of the medical to be meritoriously promoted to detective and one week after being promoted, she had her doctor to write a note to get her put right back on light duty. She’s been hiding at the medical section since. She should actually be in an Area, sitting behind a desk screening non- field investigations. She’s abusing the medical while detailed to the medical section. Who’s job is it to monitor this?
she's using her privilege card again
