Minor Consequences

The number of years this went on, just pointed to how broken the Department has been:

  • A retired Chicago police officer accused of repeatedly filing false auto theft reports to avoid paying traffic fines has pleaded guilty and will serve probation, according to court records.

Jeffrey Kriv, 56, pleaded guilty to a single count of theft before Judge Jennifer Coleman last week. In exchange, prosecutors dropped eight other felony counts, including multiple counts of perjury. Coleman ordered Kriv to pay $4,500 in restitution as part of the deal.

Kriv, who retired from the department in January 2023, was accused of falsely reporting that his girlfriend had stolen his personal car on 44 separate occasions since 2009 to beat parking and automated traffic tickets. Prosecutors said he claimed during administrative hearings that his girlfriend had taken the vehicle each time the citations were issued. Officials alleged he submitted nearly identical false police reports to support his claims, which resulted in the dismissal of dozens of tickets.

Forty-four separate reports of his car being stolen....and no one caught on? Multiple perjury charges, but allowed to plead to a single charge that results in probation.

Must be nice to be connected.

What’s it going to take to prosecute a financial crimes compounded with multiple perjuries? Maybe he is, was, connected in order to avoid the other charges and get a slap on the wrist?

Jeff Kriv wasn’t connected and he wasn’t very well liked either. He was good at DUI arrests, I’ll give credit where credit is due. But seeing that he had no criminal history, I could see him getting a decent plea deal. But this was rosier than I expected.

I thought it as 32 or 33 times but 44 times is obviously worse! What happened the other 43 times? No one caught on by the 3rd or 4th time? I’m assuming the “girlfriend” was interviewed? If she was interviewed why did it take so long to do so so it didn’t happen 44 times!

You can hire good legal representation when you own plenty of rental properties. Plenty of Kriv stories on the job. He parked his Lexus in front of the garage the first watch commander parked his car in and when 0400 came around for the captain to go he was stuck. Needless to say he was livid. Kriv fell asleep in the squad car and no answer on the radio finally coming in for checkoff at 0700 without a care in the world.

To say that he had a pair of balls on him is an understatement. When one of his many "urban" girlfriends got locked up in county he went to see her. He goes to county and presents himself as a detective doing an investigation and he needed to speak to her privately, unreal.

Kriv was a piece of sheit since the day I met him, he was the DUI guy on midnights in 12th and the hero to many young naive officers. And yes, SCC he is connected, was I should say. His dad was a big shot MOB ATTORNEY, and he thought he was gangster himself but to me he was just a little mouse. But he was not retired when he would do these false reports to avoid paying a ticket, he was active. The department let him retire while he was being investigated.

Ease up new guy! Kriv is no friend of mine but I did have the misfortune of being on 1st watch with him in 013 when he started all his DUI MADD award winning OT $$$. All the other names in box 2 should prolly be a bit concerned because he’s not the kinda guy to take the full hit. I guarantee he would throw his “partners” on the rack and claim they should’ve intervened before that was even a thing. He was 99 mostly because others wised up and refused to be assigned a bt with him.
He was always involved in fukery because he’s a sociopath and dgaf about anyone but Jeff. Liar, predator, deviant and more!
Also the department doesn’t “let you retire” he was under investigation and didn’t receive any credentials is all. Signed retired with credentials, M T 😎

Hey Kriv being an asshole to 99% of those you delt with on and off the job is coming back and kicking you in the arus.. nice legacy you left behind clown. FYI duis in the ghetto isnt a skill.. just means you stopped a few cars. It's like beating up the one armed, one eyed midget and claiming your a champion fighter.
Kriv will go down as just another if CPDs corruption scandals

An old scam. In the mid 1990s I stopped a car that came up stolen. Was being driven by an owner. A dozen parking tickets in the car. Driver says the car was stolen but they found it and self recovered but never reported recovery. Driver said her parents didn't know they were supposed to do that even though both parents were CPD sergeants. I made the recovery, cleared the record and in the Extra Copy box sent copy of vehicle recovery sup to Revenue and to IAD. Probably went nowhere.

Now that’s how we should all do our job. Fuck that boss hole. I ask: where is your garage spot to park your personal car? You’re the working police, that boss sat in his office doing Lord knows what. I can tell you it wasn’t police work. So, everyone should block that spot. This dude is a hero and someone to emulate. Shit, put a statue of him in front of FOP as the kind of officer we should all aspire to be. Now remember, Get Fetal and Stay Fetal.

Ah yes. As the haze in my crystal ball clears, I see an officer being detained by two IAD Lt.s, waiting to get a warrant to search a bag on a table in a police station. The bag belongs to the officer it seems. It looks like he doesn't want them to look inside the bag. Oh my! The officer has grabbed the bag and is running out of the station with the Lt.s in pursuit, and yelling to stop. The Lt.s return to the station empty handed. What could have been in the bag? Oh no the haze is returning. Can you: "Name this Beef?"

Still an apples and oranges comparison. At least Kriv knew how to make a felony arrest and could f***ing speak and write English. Look around the room at your next roll call. How many of these Croc-wearing Tylenol babies that they hired in the last 7 years can write a legible narrative or make a decision without a sergeant? How many will be doing federal time 10 years from now?
